I don't really want to but I'm gatting to many jams and my father is
starting to bitch about the memory. . .

    Thanx,

    The Joker

P.S. Now if you could figure out someway to make it so there are less
jams coming through I would still like to stay involved. . .

    Metropolis, so I was just wondering....Take Care....dusty

think it was)! And I thought I was the only Puerto Rican on the Jam! Just goes to show, uh,
something... :) Oh, and about what Rip said abt. DT on CIS, no, this was an organized
conference and it was announced a few days before on that 'what's new' thingy... It was them.

You know, some people just aggravate me. I went to a Strawberries about a week ago, and asked the guy about the trib and about Magna Carta in general. He went into the back, and came out saying, "Yup. We're going to have it. Definitely." A friend of mine goes in a few days later, and gets the response "Who?" I'm probably just going to wind up mail-ordering it.

That's great, burt, but - Where did you get the information??? I hope you're right, but I've been burned on this already (by CDConnection).

About the band appearing at the 'Con:

    >In short, he's (Derek's) heard about it, but he's not sure if he's >going to come. It's not that he doesn't want to; just that he acts >somewhat spontaneously and the cons later in the year.

Anybody else think the band is being evasive here? It's always "Looks like the band will be there" and "JP said they're aware of it, etc." but apparently NOBODY has committed to it. How come?

I went to the Ethyl Mertz show on Friday, and I must say it was pretty cool. Derek knew none of the songs, but still managed to play his ass off. The cool thing was when Jon Oliva from Savatage came out and sang two Beatles songs. In the second set, they brought up about everyone in the bar for guest spots on songs. Amazing thing about Al Pitrelli; from a distance he looks just like John Petrucci(with the beard). The place is a real scummy place however, but as MOJO will attest they do serve Tequila. He left after the first set though, he has no balls.

The Smashing Pumpkins thing that I agreed with was the fact that maybe they are not shooting up. Don't make that assumption. If they are, then they are hypocrites. If not, then I respect them. I think the band will have some serious legal entanglements even though they kicked him out. As for Pantera, it is attitudes like Anselmo's that get people killed. Can anyone say DENIAL, and it ain't just a river in Africa.

Galatic Cowboy recently stated the following in Ytsejam #1703:

    >But I want to talk more about a QR boot I just got in the mail. It's from >The Promised Land tour 5/24/95 from San Jose, CA. This boot kicks ass >too. It's from a soundboard. And the sound is excellent. Any QR fans >looking for a good boot, pick this one up. I got mine from the CDCellar.

Hmmm... Actually, as many people already know, there's lots of *legit* "Promised Land" tapes floating around. During the PL tour, 'ryche allowed for tapers' sections. I guess what you purchased is still technically a bootleg, though, since somebody just made a profit on it...

    Also from #1703:

    > Someone mentioned that A Clockwork Orange (the film, not the book) was >banned >in the U.K. and that this was censorship. From what I understand, A >Clockwork >Orange was banned by Kubrick himself after it supposedly inspired young >people >to commit crimes very similar to those in the film. Since Kubrick owned the >copyrights, he prohibited it to be screened or sold in the U.K. I could be >wrong, but that is what I understand.

I sent a private message to Graham on this matter, but, since it was brought up again, I'll share what I've read recently. The British 'puter mag _Net User_ reviewed several cult film Web sites in its June issue (#12). Here is part of what is said about a "Clockwork" site:

"Many of you will no doubt have heard cult film fans talking about Stanley Kubrick's _A Clockwork Orange_ but won't have actually seen it. The reason for this is that the film has been tied up in legal wrangles for years and, although not actually banned, the British Board of Film Classification won't release it until certain scenes are cut. Not wanting to compromise his artistic integrity, Stanley Kubrick refuses to screen the film, hence the stalemate."

I got my free copy of Clockwork's "Weaving Webs of Time" a few days ago and would urge anyone and everyone to get it. I get a lot of demo's and this one is one of the most professional sounding I've heard so far.

The vocals could use of some work (as stated in the letter that accompanies the tape), but the music is very good. It sounds like the band is heavily influenced by Shadow Gallery - lots of cool keyboard/piano interludes tying together the 27+ minute "progressive" epic. I look forward to new material from this band.

How's it goin' y/jammers. The following is a repost to remind all of you to get your survey responses in.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me and some guys on IRC hatched this mother of a plan. Here goes. I want to profile the average YTSEJAMMER!!! I will take all your responses and find what the average jammer is REALLY like. All you have to do is answer these 4 SIMPLE questions:

    1. Are you a musician, and if so what instrument do you play?

    2. What is/was your grade point average? (high school, college, whatever you're prouder of.)

    3. Are you an athlete, and if so what sport do you play?

    4. What is your, (or your parents, depending on if you're in school or not) average yearley income?

The two number questions will be averaged when I post the results, and the posted answers to the other questions will be based on the most frequent responses.

The results will be posted thursday August first. Get your answers in quick, and all will run smoothly. No one will get hurt.=)

    Send all answers to swanson@henge.com

FYI, this is all done purely out of curiosity.

    Later, Cory

PS Thanks to all who were on IRC that helped out.

I just heard about MuchMusic's new contest and it is damn interesting.

It is open to any Canadian. You have to find any three videos that they play in a row and write them down. THe videos must, in your opinion, complement each other well.

The winner picked by the station gets to be a PRODUCER FOR A DAY!!! You can program the entire music video department for one whole day!!!!!

Now, I think it would be incredibly cool if a 'jammer won this. Just think, nothing but prog and metal all day long. Wow, this makes me shiver.

So, any Canadian jammers out there: enter the fucking contest!!! We can always hope!!!!!!!!!!!

Courage Under Fire. The first third of it, I was kind of thinking, "what the hell is the point of this movie?" It really starts coming together in the end though. Tragic and shocking.

The Frighteners. This was great! Possibly, the best I've seen this summer. ID4 beats it in scope, but this movie is better all around.

Really funny for the first hour, and then things turn f*cking sinister during the second half. Might give the weak-of-heart nightmares though. Damn good story and the few [types] of special effects were great. Great music, too (Danny Elfman, and someone doing Don't Fear the Reaper). Tragic, in a sense, too. (Sorry to tread on Mike B.'s territory here.)

    >Anyhow, a thought crossed my mind: wouldn't it be cool to >have our own radio station?! Call it WYJM.

Hey! You bastards (don't worry, that's a term of endearment) east of the Mississippi seem to forget about the rest of the US (apologies to out-of-country 'jammers).

I think it should be "KYJM". Though that does kind of have a sick connotation, if you know what I mean...
