    Hiya guys,

    >Seth screamed on this.

WTF???!!!!! Ernie, just what are you talking about? I don't even have
cable so I don't have Empty-V, so I have NO idea what "Until it Sleeps" is
based on. For all I know, it could be about the time when James got so
drunk his left butt-cheek fell asleep; now whenever his ass tingles he
knows he's had enough, so he goes home to sleep it off? ;-)

I'm also not all that into paintings as an art medium.

As to Ben's question about Dragonheart being worthy of his ytse-cash, IT is
most definately worth it. Most fantasy films suck whale spleen because the
special effects for dragons and magic and faeries just aren't convincing,
but Dragonheart really delivers. Surprisingly, DH made a great date movie.
I'd recommend it over Twister, because the plot was better (wait, did
Twister have a plot or was it just run from one specila effect to the next?
hmmmmm). DH was really almost cute in some parts (I wanted to take Draco
home with me) and pretty war/gore at some others (love that kid getting
    pierced by the spike)
One thing though, did anybody think that the heroes voice sounded exactly
    like Beetlejuice?!!!

Maybe DT will start getting jobs doing more movie soundtracks, commercials,
video games because Petrrucci did Necronomicon (stupid name for a pinball
game). If Danzig can do the theme song for "McKenna", DT can do just about
anything (the new prog KFC jingle?!!!)

    That's all for now.

I just thought that I would post my opinions of Mr. Skadz. I believe
that the comment about "That laim school in Huntington" thing was aimed
directly at me and my alumnus St. Anthony's. Well let us just say that I
know two other graduates from your High school, and they are both freaks. I
guess that your mother got smart after you graduated from Chaminade, and
sent her to a real school. Well at least you are an Islander fan unlike
Mooojoman. I think we should ask the members of DT who they like in hockey.
I know that John Myung is an Islander fan, so I guess he's smart.

Frank, I'm sorry to have used you as an example. You still are one of
the coolest people I know, and am proud to call you a friend ( enjoy TSM
single). Oh yeah, it looks like BD this weekend ( Personal joke ).

Ytse-Ben, The easiest way to tell if a song is changing tempo is to
"chick" the high hats. If when you are playing the song, the pace of the
"chick" stays the same, then it is the same tempo. That is not to say that
the time signature is not changing though. When you go from 4/4 to 6/8 your
beats per minute will change, but the feel of the tempo should remain the same.

P.S. Hey Frank, my quote will be " Sorry about that " yet again, Laughs!!!!!

    Hi!

First, I'd like to thank Jason Skewes for his great work and
for all he has done for the band Superior. Without him most of
you, who ordered our CD, would have had to pay much more for
it because of the high costs for shipment. Thanks Jason. You rule!

Second, THERE IS A NEW SOURCE IN THE USA WHERE YOU CAN ORDER
    YOUR SUPERIOR-CD DIRECTLY!!! Please email

    EmpireEnt@aol.com or
    apocalypse@marlin.intelli-net.com

for details. These people have a Mail-order company and they
sell the CDs from now on.

You can also order by snail-mail:
    Empire Entertainment
    P.O. Box 1756
    Sebastopol, CA 95473

I don't have the address of Apocalypse-music with me at the moment,
but I'll pass it to you later.

Jason will no longer take orders! So please don't send him
your orders anymore. The ones who ordered in the last few
weeks and didn't get the CD 'til now , don't worry! I'll
send the next shipment away when Jason's last order arrives here.
This will probably be at the end of next week, or so.
That means you will get your CDs from Jason. But you're the
last ones who will be served by him.

    Thanks.

    Bye.

    Bernd. (superior@dreamt.org)

    Message-ID: <199606071011.DAA16056@bud.indirect.com>

I agree with Jon Parmet. Load is a great album... Metallica can't
go on making albums full of palm-muted thrash exercises like Four
Horsemen, Damage Inc, or Trapped Under Ice. Load itself has about...
well, 12 songs that immediately jump out and grab me as "good" (I don't
care for the first two yet... Bitch and 2x4... but they'll grow), and
there are at least four clear masterpieces on the CD in my opinion: The
House Jack Built, Bleeding Me, Mama Said, and Hero Of The Day. Until It
Sleeps is a runner-up... it grooves, but gets cranking a bit too late.

The key here is that Metallica is exploring music in a way that
Rush and Dream theater tend to: they're trying new sonic approaches,
new structure, and a big thumbs-up to longer songs! A very long song
anchors each half of Load. If DT had made WDADU-II instead of Images &
Words, in other words another album full of thoughtful songwriting that
wanders a bit too much, melodies that could have been made better, and
songs that are intriguing and intense but lack hooks or memorable broken
boundaries, then we wouldn't have thought much of Images and it would
have been a very stale album. Same for Metallica.. they have to write
what's new and exciting to them, regardless of their track record.

I'm particularly interested in what I hear about Mama Said.
Clearly the most different Metallica song ever made, this one combines
some very diverse and cohesive elements from different genres and creates
a song that really flows well and has some fantastic harmony work. I
haven't heard harmonies done in that style since The Last Unicorn. "All
that I ask of you..." etc. The slide guitar, a new element in Metallica,
is almost subsidiary to the good song structure and thoughtful lyrics,
including a reference to Blade Runner ("The brightest flame burns
quickest") and shades of the soft side of Dyers' Eve. Now on the one
hand, all my DT-loving buddies dig this song bigtime. All my Metallica
fan friends who aren't much into DT and Rush don't think too much of
it. I think that as progressive fans our horizons widen a bit.

            Just my opinion.

P.S. Scenes From A Memory has begun shipping. Expect yours soon! If you
haven't ordered it yet... WHY NOT?!?! :) E-mail me for all the details.

I just got Shadow Gallery's "Carved In Stone" (thanks to everyone who
recommended them). I noticed that the sleeve lists 13 tracks, yet my CD
player registers 20. I'm assuming that the last track which is 22 minutes
must be broken up into smaller tracks...

Am I missing any of the song since my CD player only goes up to 20 tracks?
    Just wondering.

PS - This album is great.

So, if you're one of the cool people on the Jam... e-mail me at

I'm looking through the Friday section of the Chicago Tribune and they review
the new Metallica album and acoompany the text with a photo. I know it's about
the music, but (especially after hearing Jam reviews of the album being closer
to TBA, though not a clone) their image in the pic it ridiculous! A fedora on
Kirk Hammet? Late '70s/early '80s shirts?!?! They fuckin' look like Van Halen
on the 1984 album? And people are trying to tell me these guys still lead
    theway for the metal genre?

HEADLINE: "Metallica goes for shiny mainstream sound on its latest album"

"The new release sounds tame....and strangely dated (you call this maturing?).
The group's songwriting and arranging have improved in a commercial sense.
Metallica can no-longer be considered a speed-metal band.

"'2X4' attempts a bit of a greasy Aerosmith-like groove, 'Ronnie' appropriates
a bluesy Savoy Brown riff, 'Till it Sleeps' aspires to the granduer of a Led
    Zeppelin ballad."

"But the album is far from an embarrasment, though 'Load' is easily the band's
_least innovative_ (oh, sure...they're maturing and progressing nicely--Hootic
    a and the Metalfish)."

I'll finalize my own judgement when I hear the disc myself. But don't mistake
change in direction for maturation. You can musically mature without selling
out. I finally heard the single and I must say I'm disappointed.

Bold for them? Yes. Good for metal fans. No.
