I'm pretty sure Mike's clinics are usally sponsored by Sabian cymbals. (maybe
Tama is now doing them as well now that Mike's back with them) I know Sabian
has a web site, maybe they list upcoming clinics there. or maybe you can
e-mail over there to find out?
Either way... if any jammers ever hear of upcoming clinics, PLEASE list them
and share the info. alot of times the stores only advertise to local
musicians on their mailing lists, leaving alot of us in the cold until
somebody posts a review.
Here's what i can share: All i know is that Mike is about to do a clinic tour
down in Australia this month....If anyone has more info, please post so we
can stop reading about Metallica and start reading about DT! Cheers!!

Sheesh. She's playing in Vegas teh 26th. That gives me one day to
find out if I like her, and decide if I want to buy tickets. :-) Yowza. If
stupid Best Buy had had Little Earthquakes when I was looking for it, I
wouldn't have this problem. They better have it when I go tomorrow.
>1- theyre cds are full blown price, always seem to be 16 dollars no
>matter where i go
Load was $11.98 and the Until it Sleeps single was $.99
>2- you cant get their stuff from cd clubs, most likely because they dont
>want people getting good deals on it.
Well, us normal people actually BUY CD's as opposed to signing up to like
ten CD clubs so we can get ten free discs over and over again. ;-)
>3- theyre changing their image to remain 'radio friendly' and trying to
>get in with the biggest money pushers.
Kirk's always been wierd.....maybe it was his dream to someday wear eye
makeup and have people applaud him. Ya never know. :-)

Because that's not what you want Metallica to be. To all the people that
don't like the new stuff? Metallica didn't sell out. YOU just have BAD
TASTE. :-)
And I listen openly....

Hi all
here's a very brief run-through of what I thought of the bands that played in
the Summer Metal Meeting in Offenbach on Friday, followed by a few bits'n'pieces
of other stuff
Lake of Tears - good, but far too short
Iced Earth - nice stuff, I'll have to get something by this band
The Gathering - great set, amazing vocals, fantastic sound
Nevermore - never again
Crematory - should have stayed at home
Rage - not over-impressed
Tiamat - absolutely amazing even if Johan has shaved his head and now looks like
Billy Corgan
Savatage - sort of OK, but I left after about 30 minutes
A big compliment to the stage crews and sound guys (and the two girls who do
the back projections for Tiamat): all bands had great sound, the changes between
bands were really short, and everything just went very smoothly.
Now for the other stuff:
1. I still like "Load".
2. Why do so many people on mailing lists (not just this one) have pseudonyms?
Can't face reality huh?
3. If any of you like doom/gothic music, check out the album "melancholy" by
the Polish band "Cemetary Of Scream". Nice one.
4. How come nobody mentions Carlos Santana when guitarists are being discussed?
This guy has one of the cleanest sounds around, can be very fast if he wants
to be, and never hits a bum note. Listen to "Love, Devotion, Surrender" with
John McCloughlin and you'll hear what I mean.
That's all for now.
stay safe and happy listening

Mornin' All....
To the person asking for info. re. a Marillion live album from 1984,
you've definately got yourself some sort of a boot there. Just to
break it down, Marillion have over the years released 4 "official"
live CD's, in the following order;
1. "Real to Reel" - 1984, EMI/Capitol Records
Marillion's answer to U2's "Under a
Blood redy sky". Single disk set, and
perhaps their best live CD, despite the
somewhat dodgy sound.
2. "The Thieving Magpie" - 1988, EMI/Capitol Records
The Fish kiss-off, a double CD-set with
tons of stuff on it, among them a complete
version of "Misplaced Childhood". If you
don't have any Marillion at all, get this!
3. "Live at Lorely" - 1995, EMI/PMI Records
The soundtrack to the "Live at Lorely" vid.
Only available with the re-released video,
but well worth the price!
4. "Made Again" - 1996, EMI/Castle Communications
A double disk set featuring the best of the
Steve Hogarth era. Features a brilliant
version of "Brave" live. After you get
"Thieving", get this!!!
I still think we should have a Marillion/Dream Theater tour.....
Best wishes,
Jon Berger

"Shadow Gallery", their first effort, is available in Europe. It's not as
compact and coherent as Carved, though. Too many cosmetics.

I saw Bruce live last night. OK, the venue was tiny, but the show was just
so cool!
He played lots of stuff from "Skunkworks", one from "Tattoed Millionaire", and
two from "Balls to Picasso". Most of the crowd didn't know the new stuff, so
the reaction was indifferent, but the "Balls" songs (especially "Tears of the
Dragon") went down a storm.
Coolest part of the evening? Half way through the encore, the band just stood
still . . . deathly silence . . . and then we hear this mysterious voice:
"WE WANT INFORMATION . . ."
The roof just about lifted off! I never thought he'd play any Maiden stuff
again. He did change some of the lyrics though: "Not a prisoner . . . I'm
in Skunkworks . . ." or something like that.
The last song was "Delilah" . . . you know, the tune from the Weetabix TV
advert :-)
Oh, and I was within cock^H^H^H^H^H^H I was very close to Mr Dickinson
himself.
A very fine night :-)
Graham B.
P.S. I got a drumstick.
P.P.S. I could have got his autograph, but I already have it 3 times ;-)

Over here in Switzland, Load sells for 2/3 full CD price!!! Even that
cheap, I won't buy this insult. However, the above was especially right for
Metallica videos. Cliff'em All was THE MOST EXPENSIVE music video around
and its price has just gone down recently to NORMAL. BTW, the two "1 1/2
year in the..." vids were a rip-off since IMO they could've been easily
condensed into one (YES, I saw both). What was nice with a band like
Maiden, for instance, was that they relesed a load of cool videos, at a
reasonable price (OK they didn't sell as much as Metallica, but what the
fuck?).
BTW, I entirely follow D-man's opinion. If you want to flame other peoples'
opinions on NDTC, do it privately. Otherwise, it's gonna be a REAL HARD
SUMMER on the jam!

hello there. the prodigal ytsejammer returns home, and he learns that there's
no place like home, on the bus.........
i have prepared for the worst test-taking experience of my young life- it's
called the lsat's. i spent what time i had between a 22 credit semester, 4
show, and 3 recital semester, and spent almost all my days thus far at home
stowed away at the trusty kaplan center nearest me immersing myself for this
FUCKING test. and i mean fucking.
but by the time this is recieved, it shall be over. if this received before
2:00 pm monday, say like something profound and wish that i do well. all this
shit just to end up where i really belong- music school.
anyways, i am home. to those i know, hello. to those i don't know, hello to
you as well. and the summer will officially begin at 9:00pm!
FUNKY FRESH IN DA FUCKIN HOUSE!
looking forward to ytsejam.
later.

Metallica sells out because your local store doesn't carry the album
cheaply? Sorry, that doesn't cut it. It was $11.99 at my local Blockbuster
Music. It's not Metallica's decision, but the record company's, I'm fairly
sure.
Even tho I bought Load on the day is came out (just happened to be a
shopping day for me, not an "eagerly awaited" thing) and haven't even
listened to the whole thing yet. Too busy. Haven't even put the new
SoundGarden in the CD Player... sigh. At least finals end tomorrow and then
I'm free.
Eagerly awaiting SFAM.

Jesus, Mojo. For being such a big guy you sure as hell have a short fuse.
RELAX! When you posted the whole "sailor, gay, shark" thing, you must've KNOWN
there'd be some response. For half the flack you send out and receive in
return, I figure you'd have a little thicker skin, by now.
Anyway, what's the story on clinics? How do we get the boys to perform here in
the Midwest! I mean Chicago would be a great market for that!
GO BULLS!! One for four!

It seems like a lot of people hate the new Metallica. Some like it. I
guess the majority hate it. I love it. May be one of the best cds of 1996
in my opinion. This is a great metal/hard rock cd.
How many people have received their Carpe Diem cds?
16th row for Dave Matthews Band at Nissan Pavillion.
21st row for Smashing Pumpkins (Fiancee likes them) at USAir Arena
6th row for Neil Diamond (for Fiancee's mother, I do not plan on attending)
I guess those are pretty good seats for calling in...
I guess I am rambling....
Oh yeah, King Crimson at Merriweather I think on Aug 25. Tickets on sale
already...

Wow! Tori Unplugged and a new KISS album both on my birthday! Score!
Tonight! One night only! Metallica LIVE on the internet from Slim's in
San Francisco. I don't know what time it's supposed to start, but there
is supposed to be a live chat BEFORE the show. I was at the show last
night and it was fuckin' incredible! That's the first time i'd seen the
boyz in a small club and it was worth seeing. I don't want to ruin it
by telling you what they played other than to say they only played
three songs off of LOAD and they sounded great! If you liked the new
stuff you'll like it even more; if you don't like the new stuff, you'll
probably enjoy hearing the live versions anyway because they sounded so
great!
