     Hi! I'm Keiji from Japan.
I'm listening the song from Working Man---Rush Tribute, yes,it's on the
radio right now. To tell the truth,it's my 3rd (maybe 4th) listening from
that album. Those are amazing, though I've never had a chance to listen
    original version. I've heard 'Mission','Jacob's Ladder',and 2 other tracks
(sorry I forget song titles,I remember Eric Martin and Jack Russell are
singing on those songs). The release date of Working Man--Rush tribute
is1996-07-21. You better check this album.
    Thanks.

I don't know Rainbow as well as I know Dio, but when Ronnie James was
singing in Rainbow I was definately a fan...I know that I already like both
groups (at least the old rainbow stuff) and I would definitely think it way
cool for the two groups to go on tour...especially if they did a concert
somewhere Boston local (without car hard to get far) :>

I would definitely go to the concert...:>

            Howdy boys and girls!!!

Well I went to see the RUSH cover band Power Windows last night and I
must say they were great as usual. Here is my point though. The bar at which
I saw them has a five disc changer that they let play in between sets. Well
much to my delight they had Awake in the changer. Imagine my surprise when I
was expecting to hear something like the Rolling Stones when all of the
sudden I hear "The Mirror". I was making it known that I know the song real
well when the drummer came up to me and asked if I liked DT. I said Hell
yes. He told me that he is from N.J. and is a good friend of Mike Portnoy's
and that he is going to go see PW play in N.Y.C. in the next few weeks. So
anyway he goes back on stage and starts warming up before the next set, next
thing I hear is the drum intro to 6:00 and even the keyboardist cut in,
then the guitarist. Unfortunately the bass player-singer did not know how to
play the tune. After the show I asked the drummer if they could play it (
they sometimes will throw in The Immigrant Song). He said they are going to
rehearse it before Mike sees them so they can surprise him. Just figured
    that was pretty cool.

Wedge it looks like you should have talked Cat into coming down, you
missed a whopper of a show!!!

As Skadz said, if anyone wants to answer my question about the battle
between a Star Destroyer and the Enterprise, just e-mail me, not the jam.

I have a question about Load. I know that Metallica is forbidden in this
list, but I'm unsuscribing tomorrow so :P

besides, it has nothing to do w. the music so I don't think Skadz will mind...
anyways, Load came out on Elektra right? so why does my CD say Vertigo on
it? and not a sight of Electra anywhere.. Is that the label on which it was
released in Europe or something? then what's it doing in Panama?!?!?

yes I am unsubscribing... I'm off to Germany to study sound engineering...

            Are the Jams getting shorter???

            :)

Critical Mass: I'll be checkin' UPS in the morning... I hope I
got 'em in on time... it's like Christmas every time I have a new project
    coming out.

METALLICA: THE WRATH OF GOD! I have a date and venue for this AND
the next CD after it. HEre's the important info.

IMPORTANT: Can ANYONE on the Jam lend me (I'm willing to rent
'em) a pair of CORE SOUND MICROPHONES? I bought a relatively decent mic
for my DAT locally, thinking I could put off the inevitable and buy Cores
later, and the stupid thing is blown out already. I need to get a set of
Cores _THIS WEEK_ and I would have them through the first week of August.
If you can help me with this, there's free CDs, free prizes, and lunch a
la Bahr in store for ya!! PLEASE HELP ME!!! :) This is totally crucial.
Call me voice if you need to... use 1-800-collect if you're broke.
602-777-0501 or 602-730-1295 (the computer line; usually useless). I'll
pay for you to next-day airmail them to me.

            Here's the final word...

    Metallica "The Wrath of God"
(possible 2-CD set depending on the setlist)
Lollapalooza '96, Compton Terrace, Chandler, Arizona (yay!!)
            July 27, 1996
            *** ORDERING WILL OPEN JULY 28, 1996 ***

    Tori Amos "Inside The Storm"
(likely a single containing all the rare tracks or b-sides played)
Symphony Hall, Phoenix, Arizona - July 2, 1996
            *** ORDERING WILL OPEN JULY 3, 1996 ***

    Dream Theater "Precious Things"
(a special single CD with some very rare tracks on it)
*** ORDERING WILL OPEN IN AUGUST ***

I hope you all found this information useful. (totally straight
face... dying of hysterical chuckleotomy inside)...

            Take it easy!!

Just a quick post to let anyone who is on the edge for buying the new =
Soundgarden CD that I would recommend saving your money. This band has =
always perplexed me. I've always thought that they had the chance to be =
great in a prog metal sense, and was waiting for them to come through. =
Their new CD contains many short songs based on few riffs and it didn't =
impress me at all. If any (US) jammer wants to take this off my hands =
for $6 postpaid, let me know. =20

Was it just me, or wasn't it madly ironic when Bafu made a =

Does anyone know any US Savatage dates?

I saw in a local hard rock/metal paper (DC/MD/VA) that SAvatage will be
at Jaxx in Springfield, VA on July 12. The Savatage home page has no
dates listed. I would love to see Savatage...

Did anyone see Crossroads with Tori Amos on VH1? She does 4 songs, Losing
my Religion (REM), I'm on Fire (Springsteen), Sugar (original), and Over
    the Rainbow (wizard of oz).

Like Skadz said Tori unplugged tomorrow night at 9pm EST. How much more
    unplugged can she get?

Yes, it's another brief appearance from the Cow God. Moo. Oh, yeah, again, I
haven't read any jams but this one since my last post, so please forgive me if
I fuck up or cause some other disturbance. Oh, and no cow tipping jokes please.
(Yes, I know you guys. :)

I saw Jars of Clay in Orlando last Tuesday. Anyone heard of them? They're a
Christian band, but they have a video. I saw it on the Box... Flood. Mostly
acoustic guitar oriented band. Pretty cool.

Oh yeah, I FINALLY got my hands on LiT!!! Hooah! This video kicks ass. I'm
gonna get me a lifetime supply of that cow-spotted condom... :) I was just
browsing through a music (as in CDs) store in Fl. and I just happened to
check out the video section to see if (yeah right) they had LiT... and they
did! One copy... I was actually considering leaving it so other DT fans could
experience the same joy I did, but then I said fuck it and bought it. Call me
selfish... :) Oh, and BTW, in the CD section DT was spelled TheatER.
Unbelievable. This is some music store folks... Camelot. Support it! :)

I laughed for a few days about that one... 'Course, you notice there's not
much chance of EVER getting to use this yourself... That's something I've
noticed about Bafu's witticisms: (not even gonna bother and try to spell
it... :) you can never use them later. He had to think of them all on the
spot cuz most of 'em are comebacks to stuff you just don't hear that often...
Bafu: how 'bout some usabler (as in more usable) witty comebacks, please? :)

The Cow God went out to buy 'Load' today.

But The Cow God got more than he bargained for.

The Cow God came home with Metallica 'Load' (some of it is cool but it's NOT
Metallica!), RatM 'Evil Empire' (Kicks Major Cow! My first RatM CD. RapCore
is cool!), and a new Sony D-321 Discman. Hehe. Oh and I saw Twister. That
movie is REALLY cool. Best movie I've seen in a while. If you haven't seen it
by now (yeah, right) go see it NOW! I know, it's been said before, but hey,
    the experts agree...

Yep, that was my vote and I was voting for none other than Nicolo Paganini,
composer of The 24 Caprices, Perpetual Motion (both of which I can play... wait,
is that bragging? OK, don't read that last line. :), etc.

WAS cool, I would say... Well, actually, no, There are a few cool songs on Load,
but they're not Metallica. Hero of the Day and King Nothing are my favs. King
Nothing is prob'ly the song that sounds most like I feel Metallica should. Hold on,
that doesn't say what I want to. MoP is my fav. of their albums, followed by AJfA.
I like these way more than Load, but King Nothing rocks the most off Load (IMO - whoa,
I don't think I've ever used that before...). Sorry if the Ytse-fad is not talking
about Metallica now... i was getting ready to send this message but couldn't then I
went to Orlando for a week and a half...

    Greetings, jammers:

I am in need of a bit of help, and I thought this might make for some interesting DTC as well, so I'm posting to the 'jam.

Ponder, for a minute, the question:

Who defines popular music, and what makes it popular?

My wife has started going back to school, and this is the subject for an essay she is to write for her writing class.

Now for the DTC. She remembers me mentioning how there were discussions on here a while back about how Green Day and other bands were making millions of dollars, while true musicians like DT weren't nearly as well known (whether DT's unknown-ness is a good thing or not is better left to another thread).

So she was thinking of basing her essay on the following question:

Dream Theater is much better musically than Green Day, but Green Day is the one that is "popular". Why?

So I was interested in hearing other peoples' comments about this. In addition to opinions (which always seem to be in abundance around here, and of which I have a few of my own =), I'm also interested in factual statements that support the fact that DT is musically superior to GD (ie, how many songs of GD contain just 3 chords, maybe mention what those chords are, about how many time-changes are there in the average DT song, etc).

I hope this isn't too inappropriate to the list, but I've tried to present this in a non-flame-inducing way (ie, the subject does NOT say, GREEN DAY SUCKS! Of course, that probably means I won't get many responses :p). If you wish to give lengthy opinions that go on many tangents (which are usually the best responses!), then you may just want to send email to me only.

Anyway, converse amongst yourselves for a while; I'm curious what some of you think.

    Happy 'jamming!

    Jim

    Bad news.

The 20th anniversity Boston Tour has been cancelled/suspended.

Tom Scholz received a hand injury. I am depressed. This was one of the few decent acts coming to Merriweather...

    Hopefully Savatage is coming nearby...
