    Hi everyone...

ok, so perhaps i'm a little slow, but i picked up Savatage's Dead Winter Dead a few days ago. after several listens i like it. the singer's attempt at growling kinda bugs me, but everything else is pretty cool. i especially like their interpretations of various pieces of classical music.

i wonder if anyone is going to get rid of the ytsejam@ax.com link on their web page...

ok, time for a shameless plug... :-)

some of you may have noticed that my sig file contains two band names. SubtleRage is a prog-rock project that i've unfortunately had to put on hold. Interum is a new age/prog instrumental project that i've been putting alot of time and energy into. Interum I cassettes are available to the public. i'm self releasing it, and i've been selling them locally and from my web page. Interum I is written and recorded entirely by me using synthesizers. it's got kind of a mainstream new age feel, but with prog and jazz influences.

anyway, if anyone is interested in hearing my stuff, stop by my home page.

    thanks for the bandwidth.

I haven't seen Dream Theater on Beavis & Butthead, but they didn't like a Rush video that was on (I think it was Stick it Out), so they probably wouldn't give DT a favorable "review."

Geez....someone just mentioned Jason Becker.....I wonder how he is doing...maybe we can send him a card or something from the Ytsejam....or at least Email of support.....Does anyone have his album???? how is it...???? I hope Jason is doing ok.... God, it's a disgrace that such a great guitar player has to end up with loosing the ability to finger his instrument. Actually....whats worse is when a group like Green Day gains some sortof respect in this world. I remember a couple of months back, I saw a picture of that Billy Joe idiot in Guitar Magazine......Unbelievable....

Im sorry....but I can't respect musicians that can't play their instrument...regardless of how much fun they claim to be having.... The members of Drea Theater are still having fun AND they know how to play their instruments.....

    T H E O N E , T H E O N L Y M O J O M A N!!!!

P.S. Anyone know anything about Jason Becker...please email me privately....thanks

I think I have a lead on those www-generated posts which seem to be cropping up all too frequently these days.

Twice in the same 'jam even. Let's take a closer look.

    Here's the first one.

    And now for number two.

If that's not enough, here is a sampling from other 'jams.

Plus two more in 1625, but I think we've all got the idea by now.

Anyone from NCSU out there recognize this machine? Anyone from NCSU want to quietly take care of this before we hunt you down? If I had a browser (I'd browse in the morni... oops, sorry) I'd track down the offending web page myself, but alas I have none.

Whoever's page this is, it appears to be quite popular. It's averaging a hit about every other day.

Definitely. It's one of my 3 favourite CDs.

Not completely true . . . I listen to Superior all the time, and they don't even have a record deal!

LiT got a poor review in RAW magazine, when it was released. The reviewer was a huge DT fan, and she said the music was sensational, but she thought that DT are simply boring to watch. To a certain extent, I agree. Someone else wrote: > Green Day = Garbage

Ah....they're *kinda* different. I kinda like GD..I mean, sometimes I need a break from complex music. Once in a blue moon I like to sit down and listen to something that requires no brain power, thought, or amazing range to sing along too. :-) Anybody see GD perform at Woodstock? (the second one, duh). Billy Joe got into a mud fight with the crowd. The bass player was laying down and playing. They were having fun. How can you look down upon somebody who is just having fun (unless it's illegal and/or causes pain to anyone or anything)? Do you really think that if you asked Green Day who the greatest guitarists/bassists/drummers where they'd say, "MMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!". Actually, they probably would and then start laughing because it was a joke. That band is about FUN, kay? And lots of people seem to enjoy listening to them having fun. Let me say again, that CHOICE OF MUSIC IS A MATTER OF *PERSONAL TASTE*. Some people like cheese...some people don't. Some people like to fornicate with mad rhinoceruses...some people don't. Some people like to bring up threads that have already been beat to death (hint hint clue clue)...some people don't.

This is from the National Midnight Star: This is from Rolling Stone Online:

[6/11/96] Expect legal problems over the pending release of "Working Man," a Rush tribute album due out on the Magna Carta label later this summer. Producer Peter Morticelli says the Toronto-based bands self-owned publishing company initially gave him permission to proceed with an album but then recanted. Morticelli says he called the company in January regarding the mechanical licensing for the songs and received a verbal commitment and immediately went to work on the project to meet the scheduling needs of the participants. The record features members of Dream Theatre, Great White, Dokken, Skid Row, Fates Warning, Mr. Big and Testament. He says his second call to the company a month later when the project was well into the recording phase saw an about face. The album, mixed by longtime Rush cohort Terry Brown, was to be distributed by Canadas Attic label. Canadian copyright laws will definitely prohibit the sale of the record in Rushs home country says Morticelli, but he will release the album in the States on Aug. 6. He says is expecting legal action and likens the pending battle to David (Magna Carta) verses Goliath (Rush). Rushs management were unavailable for comment.

[6/18/96] Rushs management has confirmed that they are protesting the pending existence of a Rush tribute album. "The record will not be released in North America," says Stephanie Robertson of SRO, the bands Toronto-based management firm. Robertson says the band has nothing against the record company, Magna Carta, or the musical performances on the recording, but they dont want a tribute album of any kind. "The band feels that "tribute" equals "death", says Roberts. "They said they did not want a "funeral before they're dead". With the album already recorded and a release date in the States set for August, litigation is almost a certainty.

See? This is quality DT content.

Well......in our time of DT thread-less despair, here's an idea that might keep us busy for a while....take a song title (that'd we'd be familiar with, preferably) and turn it into some kind of food pun. One example is the topic...some others would be "Red Barcheddar", "Cheddarspheres" and "Lifting Shadows off Whipped Cream". Note: Do NOT SEND THESE to ME personally. Send all puns to the Jam. :-)

This kept us busy on IRC for a minutes at a time..maybe it will do the same on the list. Sorry if some IRCers thought this pun-making game was extremely special, and should only be kept on IRC...but I'm desperate (as I'm sure some other people are) for something entertaining on the Jam. Maybe even funny, too. ;-)

Is this authorized by the band...? I would think that they would have their own stickers that we could buy via the fan club.

Yeah, it was "Stick it Out", but in the beginning, Beavis sang a little of "Spirit of the Radio." It was pretty funny, actually. For what it's worth, I think Mike Judge (B&B's creator) knows that Rush seem to like B&B. In the booklet for _Burning for Buddy_ there's a picture of Neil Peart sitting behind his kit with a B&B shirt on. Who knows?

I just heard the "official" news about Van Halen, so I will pass it on.

David Lee Roth was getting together with the band to record ONE track for a box set or greatest hits compilation. Haggar got very upset and his "ego got in the way". He quit and walked out of the band. VH hasn't announced a replacement yet, but David Lee Roth is an obvious possibility.

Now, only if the same could happen to Steve Hogarth.....
