After reading Stephane's post about the Rush tribute album, i just gotta say
that i can't wait for it. It sounds awesome. I just hope those guys let
their egos down long enough to allow it to be released here in the USA.

But, alas, now i'm off to be a *Working Man*...

Would you really like Fish to re-join Marillion, in the state he's in
now ? He can't sing to save his freakin' life anymore. Have you heard
him live lately ? Did you buy those Yin & Yang CD's ? Personally, I
was very shocked when I heard his voice on those discs. Steve Hogarth
OTOH is a brilliant singer. Personally, I would prefer to see Fish
join Genesis, as long as he isn't going to be a Phil Collins rip-off.

I feel the same way about Diamond Dave. I saw him on Leno a while back.
He looked and sounded pathetic... Still singing that same old song...
Ok, California girls *are* cool (Hi Charone), but does he really have
to keep singing about it ? IM-VH-O, VH with DLR *WILL* SUCK :)
Dave is way too 80's for Van Halen. Sammy Rulez !
Yuck, just thinking about it makes me sick, sorry...
No flames please. Remember, this is all IM-VH-O <--

Mike, do you feel the same way about JLB and Chuck D. ? <--- minimum DTC

Yeah, please let me know too. When the Metropolis bass solo was posted, someone
mentioned seeing JM do it that way on 'the video' I think. Please enlighten us.

I was reading this, and I was saying to myself, "Wow, now this person knows how
to respond. He's being logical and clear." Then I looked up at the header and saw
it was Mike B. That explains it.

you, I do not hate you. Chill out. :)

    > I do like the music of the following 'politically incorrect' bands/artists:
    > Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Hole, Green Day, Silverchair, Nine Inch Nails,

I don't think Nirvana or NIN are considered horrible, nasty, or "politically incorrect"
here. I like them, anyway. The rest, yeah, I think the general feeling is that they are
not exactly our first choice in music. I do not say "Green Day Sucks." I say "Billie Joe
is not a very good guitarist and I really dislike most of their music." This is bsically
all a person can rightfully say. You can state facts (As far as technical skill goes, I'm
better than our friend Mr. Armstrong, and I'm not exactly Vai, so I think I can say that
he's not very good...) and you can state opinions and feelings (To me, most of Dookie is
OK if you're not looking for music that will make you listen with your mouth open). No-one
can say that a certain band sucks (well, OK, I guess the people in the band can. Remember
Primus at Woodstock? "Hello. We're Primus. We Suck." That kicked ass. :) And that's all I
    have to say about that.

No-one can tell you what you have to like to be here. However, it would not be very
smart to join a mailing list about Dream Theater if you hate DT. Most Ytse-jammers
assume people here love DT because only a die-hard DT fan would be willing to put
up with 40-70 pages of mail a day from that one digest alone (Those are not made-up
    numbers). :)

Oh, and this part of my message also gets a

Like Stephane Auzilleau I also received a taped copy of the Rush tribute album this week, and as he stated it is impressive. I also have to agree that most of the songs on there are TOO similar to their original versions. What was really needed was a bit of off the wall variety: a thrash or some alternative version of one or two songs just to spice it up a bit. But the quality and musicianship is as expected exceptional, and makes a great listen for any rock fan whether or not you like Rush.

Buy it, if and when you get the chance to in N. America, or we'll start an export business from Europe!!!!!

Finally, just to endorse what Mike Bahr stated concerning the DT rumours that James & Derek are on the way out. I was in contact with Mike P. today, and the band including James and Derek are currently in NY for 2 more weeks of writing and demoing. As they say, do not always believe all you read in the music press!

well, folks, i FINALLY got copies of "music meant to be heard" and "chroma key". i really like them both. i have one big observation, though...

pardon me while i slip into something flame-retardant...;)

is it just me, or is kevin's voice much cooler than labries?

now, let me explain before you go fucking nuts and losing your heads over this:

my main problem with labrie (beside the annoying screeching he does live) is that, since his style is so operatic, many of his vocals come off as if he's acting and sound very contrived. imho, most prog singers have this same problem, with the exception of geoff tate (listen to "someone else" if you want some strong emotion). granted, labrie is more technicaly skillful and gifted than kevin is vocally, but much of what he does comes off as hollow for me. what i find so wonderful about kevin's voice is that it is obvious from the first note that there is real, intense emotion is every single word that he sings, and i find that very powerful. i also find his voice rather soothing. technically, james is better (although kevin's vocals improved dramatically between "music meant to be heard" and "chroma key"), but i much prefer kevin's vocals because they sound much more sincere and REAL.

well, i curious to hear what you all have to say about this.

btw, to those of you who disliked "sounds like watercolor", what are you thinking? that song is extremely original. just because it isn't as prog-oriented as the other 2 songs doesn't make it inferior. i think it's the best one on the tape, personally, but then again i listen to a lot of music that nobody else on the jam listens to, so what do i know?

    take care, matt.

Please (if you haven't already) take a few moments to answer my music survey. The questions are as follows:

    1) How many CD's do you own?

    2) How many hours of music do you listen to per day?

Thanks to everyone who has responded to me so far. Please be sure to send all responses to me at : Zimbob@dreamt.org .....Not the jam.

I dunno, Rip..."Beefquad-X" is like one of those names you say in the CD store and go home and tell people about it, like "The Sweaty Nipples" and "Sheep on Drugs". At least with Insanity we can be true to our name and still have a few people take us seriously. :-)

first of all, to all you 47-chromosomed freaks with your "cream theatre" and "images and pies".......yo! you gotta tell me where you get your crack, cause i think i'd like some of it for the pfunk show next week.

when whoever it was mentioned petrucci doing "jacob's ladder" on the rush trib, i went off and put the original on, and fantasized.....and here is what i came up with....

a very fat load of distortion, and just wailing notes tearing up various openings in my body (including, yes, you guessed it, my ass), and porntoy committing unspeakable crimes to me with his bass drum.

basically, that means i think it will sound really good, and neil gallop, if the above thoughts don't make you "love" dt, i don't know what's wrong with you.......

ps- please email me regarding your very interesting concept of pc and non-pc bands/musicians. i'm not sure how satch especially ended up there....

dman- what's up with our "dtrug deal"...er, i mean trade?? you never got back to me. respond me, you fiendish wedge!!

where's bafu?? i miss him........<sniff>, and while we're at it, where the hell is air dance? or ldyicefire? or the metallica threads.

speaking of sellouts and the likes, i've been thinking a bit about that whole issue, and if and when the new dt album comes out and after a few listenings and complaints that "dt sold out", i will have a juicy theory for you all.

the jp clinic at manny's in case you hadn't heard (i sure haven't, which is why i called) is: unconfirmed. those fools thought i was on crack when i asked. oh well. whatever.

Thank You!!!!!! I was bored and annoyed after the first puns months ago...

I don't get Rush. Dont they realize that they are getting honored while they still are around. Would they rather only be honored when they are dead? I just think they have a real big ego.

This VH thing is crazy. I can't picture Roth singing anything 5150+ Maybe VH should pick up a progmetal type vocalist. That could be really interesting....

I have a question for those of you who participated in the Birch Hill tape tree. I received my copy a little while ago, and I was very pleased with the quality of the recording. However i'm not sure if i received the tapes as they were intended to be recorded. For one thing, Scarred was not completely there. it was on the beginning of side B on tape 2, and came in about half way. Was that how it originally came? If not, is someone willing to make me another copy (preferrably one of you who were the original dub sites for the tree, and therefore have a good quality tape)? also, is there a J-card available for the tapes, with all the track listings, and other info (date, etc.). I'm also wondering if there have been any of you who have waited to get CD's from Mike Bahr for longer than a reasonable amount of time. I know that most people probably get theirs within a reasonable amount of time, but i'm wondering if i'm the only one who's been waiting for 6 months now, to receive WDATU. I'm waiting for AQ and SFAM as well, but for less than that, since i only paid for them a while ago. It's WDATU that i'm worried about. i emailed mike about it several times, since it came out, and apparantly once it came back to him undelivered. he told me that it was resent, but i still haven't seen it. so it appears as if it's been lost in the mail or something. i'm giving up hope, so i'm just wondering if there are others who waited that long, and finally received theirs.

    thanks,

    tim
