    YO.
I just put on Primus's Frizzle Fry...right before the first song,
there is the tinging part of YYZ...live. WTF is this? I never noticed it
before...and if I did, it was before I ever heard YYZ.

Waitasec...is that doublebass like the upright bass, or doublebass DRUMS?

BTW, I will plan YtseCon Vegas if we get enough interest.

Well, I am writing in regard to the message about "noone can play
Classical and Jazz". I am a fellow bass player and I try to play every
kind of style that I can. I play Double Bass and Electric. I think(and
any other Jazz players too) you should be able to play classical before
Jazz. Classical helps you w/ Jazz in way. Technique is the #1 thing.
Well, if you really listen to the bass lines in DT, such as in Awake, you
notice that Myung has had to have experience at playing other styles
cause of the syncopation and rhythm he uses. A good example of a bass
player that plays various styles and does it for a living in John
Pattitucci. Just listen to "GRP All-stars". Pattitucci plays several
diff. styles of that album. Well, I'm probably boring you non-bass
players out there. Just thought I express my point of view.

    Dear jammers,

Hey guys! I've already got some really great suggestions for the YtseCon
III. I think that it should be like what Babs did for the first Con,
I'll arrange something with the hotel that the ytsecon will be at so
people from out of town can stay right at the hotel. Also, I'm thinking
of making it either a two day event, or one REALLY long day with Dream
Theater packed stuff. There will be two events: The Convention itself
with special guests Dream Theater plus their wives (of course), then the
second event will be the Dream Theater tribute (and Dream Theater will
definitely be invited). Right now, this is at the initial stages so I
have no idea where it should be, how many people will show up, etc. So
Far, I spoke with Mike Bradley and he'll be doing the name tags for the
con like what he did for the YtseCon II.

The suggested date for the YtseCon III is somewhere like Late May to
early June (probably early June). Since it is not during a tour or
anything plus I'll be getting to management two months ahead of time, the
schedule for DT will probably be clear. But, I do have to act fast. I'm
thinking of having the DT tribute in my HS theatre (which was recently
renovated and is EXTREMELY nice). I have connections so I'll probably be
able to rent it out for a night and a lot of my neighbors are into DT so
they would definitely go (plus I could say to my friends that DT visited
    my school!).

Well, that's all I have so far. If any of you guys have any suggestions
or would like to help, that'd be great! Drop me a line if you have
anything to say or suggest, etc. TTYL!

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

Although I was willing to set up/host a Phoenix summer Ytsecon,
the guy who suggested Las Vegas has the better idea. It'd be far better
to do it there. Most plane tickets into Vegas are a lot cheaper than
equivalent flights into Phoenix. Let's see if we can make it happen!

Deb: it's not that the instrumental tribute _can't_ work, it's
just that it's going to sound like shit unless the bands can rehearse
together, play it together, and record it in a live take. The odds are
dead-set against 4-trax-by-mail working out. But I'm willing to be proven
    wrong on this... :)

That was neet seeing my letter in the new IAW fanzine, and even
neeter seeing other references to me in it. Look Maw, I'm in print!
"Desperately seeking Subconscious and Acoustic Dreams"... cool.

BTW, I'm scanning up some images for the Lifting Shadows page
that will include all past, present, and future CDs I'm making. At least,
    those that have covers. :)

For all Arizona Jammers: Scoobacca is playing a HUGE private
party in Chandler next Saturday. It's FREE, and that includes free kegs.
It's an experiment to see how this sort of party will go. Come and get
toasty with Scoobacca! Here's the show info:

Date: March 9th Time: 7:00 pm
Location: 200 W. Shannon St. Chandler, AZ
Phone for info: Johan at 602-969-9932 or me at 602-777-0501
            How to get there:
Your major cross streets will be Arizona Ave.
(Country Club from Mesa) and Ray Rd. Get to
there any way you like. Once you get there, go
west on Ray Rd. a little bit, and turn south
at the light. (Hartford or Hamiltion, I forget
which, but it dosen't matter, there's only one
light before Alma School rd.) once you turn, turn
BACK EAST (left) on Shannon St. which is likely to
be the first street you see. Go to 200 W... You're
likely to see many vehicles there.

Oh yeah, Scoobacca is the band I play bass in. :) Just noticed I
never mentioned that this was MY band.... take care all...

I just started listening to Galahad, a band kind of in the
Marillion and Genesis mold. For all of you big Genesis fans out there,
they have a song called "One for the Record" which is about being a
spectator at the Genesis reunion concert a while back. There is one
line, "It's been seven years, long enough to cry." It's really good
    stuff.
And for anyone who is just getting into Genesis, whoever said not
to overlook some of the albums after Gabriel left is right. Trick of the
Tail may be one of the best.

    Steve from Tucson here --

Was anybody else out there in Ytse-land part of the throng that got =
screwed out of the Ozzy show in Phoenix last night? Ozzy got a bad cold =
or something and had to postpone and fly back to L.A. I guess they'll =
change the name of the tour to "Upper Respiratory Infections Suck". =
Seriously, all respect to Mr. Osbourne, and a speedy recovery and =
re-schedule...I'VE GOT 3RD ROW SEATS, FER CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!

Anyway, with the shows postponement, I got a chance to drop by and see =
Mike Bahr at his happenin' pad in Chandler (despite what any of you may =
have heard, Mike is a pretty decent guy). Not only did I get to pick up =
my copy of WDATU #477 (which is pretty dang good, if you ask me), but he =
gave me a sneak preview of his upcoming Rush live double-CD production =
(tentatively titled "Critical Mass" -- correction on that, Mr. Bahr?), =
and folks, when Mike says that it's the best live recording ever =
produced, he ain't just whistlin' dixie. When I heard that he was going =
to have to charge 50 bones for the double-CD, I was pretty sure that I =
was going to have to pass that one up, but let me tell you, I think he's =
got me sold on it. They will be a combined two hours plus of live Rush, =
from the Counterparts tour, recorded at Auburn Hills, Michigan, and they =
sound GREAT!!! And I'm not just saying this because Mike asked me to, or =
because I'm hoping that he'll graciously present me a copy free of =
charge for my advertising the product. ;) They rule, and I hope he gets =
them out ASAP. So, if you like Rush, I mean if you REALLY like Rush, =
order those discs -- you won't be disappointed.=20

I'd like to thank whoever it was for recommending Richie Kotzen's new CD =
-- I picked it up last week and it's great. Not at all what I expected, =
    but great.

I also picked up Galactic Cowboys - Machine Fish, and it's pretty good, =
too, though I'm told that Space In Your Face is better -- agreement? =
    rebuttal?

Finally, I just need to say...HELP!!! Can someone PLEASE tell me why all =
of that crap is coming up right after my posts on the Jam?!? I've gotten =
a few ideas from some of the Jammers out there and I appreciate it, but =
nothing has worked so far, and I hate inconveniencing all of you with =
that incredible waste of space. I use Microsoft Exchange (I know -- =
EVIL, DIABOLICAL, LOSER software), and I'm planning on switching to =
Eudora in the very near future, but until then, can anybody tell me what =
I can do to eradicate all of that stuff? E-me privately with your =
    suggestions, and THANX-A-MIL.

    Steve from Tucson again --

Hey, I don't know if this DT tribute CD is going to happen or not, but =
if it does, a friend of mine and I want to do The Silent Man -- he's the =
guitarist, and I'll sing and throw in mild percussion (tamborine, =
bongos, maybe marimbas) -- should be pretty cool. We'll do all of the =
studio work and everything and just send the DATS or whatever to whoever =
is in charge. This is a serious proposal, so I'd appreciate some RSVP =
from whoever may be heading this project.

Hey, Mike Bahr, maybe I could make a cameo appearance on your band's =
version of Pull Me Under -- sing backup or something -- but, you'll have =
to speak with my agent and recording company first -- you know, legal =
    stuff. ;)

"Things are getting just a little bit scary -- it's a wonder I can still =
    breathe." - DT

P.S. Again, my most profound apologies for the incessant CRAP that keeps =
popping up after my posts. WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!?!?!?!?

You punks on the East Coast already had one out there. Dammit, I want to
have one out here, preferably in SanFrancisco! Why cant that happen? Im
sure there are plenty of us out here...

I could bring 3 people, for sure.

Come on folks, it would be fun...Hell, I might even drive out to the one in
Las Vegas if you guys have it there. But only as a last resort.

I have been semi involved in this for quite a while now.

I have been in contact (somewhat) with DT's booking agency (Pinacle
Entertainment) and their management (Roundtable) I have not posted
anything yet because nothing has been confirmed from either of the two.

I will post that the more "Cons" the better!

The idea of a MidWest YtseCon has been thrown around since the East
Coast shows from the end of 95...

Plans are in the making for either Milwaukee or Chicago.
These two locations seemed the best locations because of thier
    centralized location.

I believe Steve Johnson has been doing most of the organizing, all I
have been doing is finding out about release dates for the new album
(which I have found out more info from the jam than from management) and
tour schedule nothing has been said for a tour. Pinnacle told me to call
back in about 2 months, (thins was about a month ago)...

Again, I said nothing becaus nothing was finalized, I have only brought
up the subject to a few people that were involved in the East Coast Con.
On top of that I didnt want to clutter the jam with UNofficial news.. I
was gone for only 2 days and come back to like 10 jams to read AHHHHH!!!

I think before every jammer posts a message about the YtseCon they are
having, let me get back to you all and I will talk to Steve Johnson,
Bigman, and a few others I have talked to and get back to you all.. It
*IS* exiting to be a part of a convention to pay homage to our favorite 5
piece prog band, but if we all keep in contact with one another we can
have as many as we can, just not with conflicting schedule because
personally, Id like to go to a few of them :)

Ok, thus far this is what infomation has been relayed to me.

1st: this will be a MidWest YtseCon, not YtseCon96 or anything specific
like that. This will be for jammers/freinds of jammers/ anyone for that
    matter..

2nd: It will be held (not official) around the end of July in Milwaukee,
    WI or in Chicago, IL..

I will get back to you all very soon, with more info...

    Hey Jammers:

Just thought I'd extend some thanks to Mike Bahr and Brian Cox
for their great contributions to us ytsejammers. WDATU rocks. even better
than Acoustic Dreams (IMHO) and the cover art is great! Also, I can't
thank Brian enough for making the awesome Birch hill Christmas show
available to us all. Thanks a lot guys.
Speaking of the Birch Hill tapes, the other day after I had
gotten them and listened to them, I proceded to make a dub for a fellow
DT fan and accidentally wiped out the whole first side tape one. (Doh!) So
Jay, if you're reading this, (or anyone else who wouldn't mind helping out a
distressed ytsejammer) would it be possible for you to redub the tape for
me? Sorry I posted this to the Jam, but after the tapes arrived, I
deleted your messages, and lost your address.
And finally, I can't get enough of the new album updates. Keep
    'em coming!!! Later.
                                            -Scott

Someone at sometime said something like:

    >I heard talk of a Mid-YtseCon somewhere like Chicago. Is this one still
    >on? It seemed like a sure thing, bigman even asked me to do the shirts
    >for it. Is this going under, moved to Vegas, or still taking place?

Is this true? If anyone has any more information on this, please post it to
    the jam.
