there's been a lot of talk about "blueprint of the world" recently. i
have to admit, i got the cd and i was not impressed. don't get me wrong,
they're great musicians and obviously terribly skilled, but the album
overall seemed very monotonous. the general tone of it is the same from
song to song IMHO. i had the same reaction toward the band cairo. with
the exception of shadow gallery, who totally blow me away, most of the
magna carta bands don't really do it for me. the production just seems
so smooth that it seems to lack attitude or a human quality. there are
no edges. this is just my opinion. feel free to let me know what you
think (and i know you will). ;)

Some one posted a message asking who is better James LaBrie or Charlie D.
Most of you will agree and say that James is the better of the two (Duh.)
But think about it, Back when you first purchased WDADU ('89) didn't you
think that Charlie was Ok? When I first heard this album I completely
lost my mind! I knew that this was the one band that I would follow until
they stop making albums. I waited for I&W for two years, well worth the
wait. It was a major improvement in the vocal dept. Still, when I listen
to WDADU it just sounds right with Charlie singing. Anyway, I can't wait
to get my copy of WDATU (Mike, you rule!). Sorry, I'm usually the quiet
one lingering in the back. Gotta go...........

I shall try to restrain myself. Charlie better than James? Have you
heard him? I'm just assuming you haven't heard WDADU yet, and are
looking for an opinion. James is definately better than Charlie by most
accounts... after all, he did *replace* him (I'm not saying that a
replacement is always better, so don't flame me with examples). I
personally like WDADU. The music is great, and Charlie is ok in spots.
If you just want James though, see if there are any copies of WDATU (I
don't know if these are all sold out yet). To be fair though, Charlie
does do a great job on The Ytse Jam.

I was wondering if anyone happens to know what Ivanhoe sounds
like???... Are they better than Enchant???.. Although I like
Enchant, I enjoy progressive a little bit more heavier. This
isn't to take away the fact that Enchant are great musicians.
I located a place here in Colorado Springs where I can pick
up both of Ivanhoe's CDs, but I just wanted to get some opinions on their
music... How is the musicianship quality???.. Do they have
a respectable vocalist(very important to me)...IMUO<g>.

I have disagree. While I didn't care much for Brocken, "Awaken The Guardian" is
an incredible album!!!.. Does anyone know if the Jon Arch on this list is the

Havent posted for a LOOONG time but when I saw a thread on the WAY
underrated John Arch I just had to throw in my hefty .000000000002$
Ok.first off, if it really is John Arch..You rule!! I have a vid
bootleg from 85 (Blondie's in Detroit) and you matched the album note
for note man!! Incredible!!
I always liked your style because it had such complexity to it
but seeing you do it live with NO mistakes only increased my respect
for you tenfold (hehe I love that word).
Same thing with Charlie Dominici..I have two vid bootlegs from 89
and he sounds great, totally in sync with the album ..unlike LaBrie;
which I have come to dislike more and more each time I see DT live.
Anyway..John you rule!!
Also, I definitely cast my vote for I&W over Awake. Even WDADU over
Awake!! There are just WAY too many tracks that I find myself skipping
over..the exceptions are Scarred, Voices, The Mirror, and Erotomania,
but the rest sounds like filler to me. They need to get back to the
intensity of WDADU..there is some serious prog on that album..I never
understood why no one liked it that much...the whole band absolutely
shines on that album!!!!!!!
But, this is all IMHO of course and am awaiting to be labelled
"Heretic" (cool game btw) or "Dominici lover"....so I'll just end it
with......MUHAHAHAHA

Aha. So if Barfbag was the "original" title, was it you or DT who decided to change it? Did you use "Showdown" because it had recently been canned and was just floating around as a cool title with no song to land on?

I think at the moment, as Mike Bahr stated above, this piece is untitled. Someone mentioned that the melody was from a Beatles piece, so perhaps that could be a working title. Otherwise, considering it's played at the same tempo and in the same key as TLF, I figure it could always just be the TLF "solo," since it's basically an extension of the song, like the solo at the end of "Take The Time."
CONCLUSION: The title "Showdown" was used at one time for one of DT's songs in progress. They re-titled it "Raising The Knife," so this title "Showdown" was then homeless, so Mike used it as a catchy name for the older instrumental known as "Barfbag." Mike, does this make sense?

I was just wondering. Because you see, that makes three Japan shows and four US shows in support of ACOS. Someone asked the question of whether or not there was a "name" for the Birch Hill show. It occured to me that there aren't currently any "names" for any of those Northeast ACOS shows that took place this past Christmas. Well, seeing as how there were a total of Seven shows in support of ACOS, might I suggest these names for them:
The three Japan ACOS shows: "The Crimson Sunrise," "Innocence," "Carpe Diem."
The four US ACOS shows: "The Darkest Of Winters" (El N Gee), "Another World" (Malibu), "The Inevitable Summer" (Birch Hill), "The Crimson Sunset" (wherever that surprise fourth show was).
Neat, huh? ;)
And hey, they aren't just neat because (purely coincidentally) those happen to be the titles of the seven parts of "A Change Of Seasons," some of them actually tie into the real-world experiences involved with the shows. For instance...
The title of the first Japan show ("The Crimson Sunrise") seems very appropriate to me because, well, anyone seen the Japanese flag lately? Crimson Sunrise indeed. Heck, look at the tour shirts from either Japan or the US. My "Home For The Holidays" shirt has a crimson sunrise on the front right behind the band. I'm kind of surprised no one's pointed this out. It WAS a tour in support of ACOS after all.
The title of the first US show ("The Darkest Of Winters") seems especially appropriate considering what the crowd had to go through on line and what happened when the show actually started. A long wait in the cold, a show cut short, AND Pleasure Crush as the opening act! The Darkest Of Winters indeed.
As for "The Inevitable Summer," there is a reason why Birch Hill is so often referred to as Birch HELL. The crowd was a complete frothing frenzy of motion, I wondered if I was going to die, and it was HOT AS HELL in that place with hundreds of bodies mashed together for two hours. No matter how bitter cold it was outside, things inevitably heated up inside...

This is really old and off the subject, but in the age of unmoderated ytsejams, what else is new?
I just wanted to respond to the guy that said TLF would be a good theme song for Highlander. It might, but the reason why the subject came up on the Highlander mailing list (there's a Highlander mailing list?) is probably that the Highlander music has always been done by Queen.
In the original movie there is a song by Queen called To Live Forever. You guys probably knew that already, but it may be news to those of you who have actual lives outside the TV.
That's why I originally thought DT's TLF was a cover of Queen's before I heard it.
Granted, TLF would probably be a good theme song for Highlander:The Series or (Please don't let them ever make this movie) Highlander 4 (the song would be its only saving grace), but I still like the Queen tune they use in the theme. I forget what it's called. I think it's "Princes of the Universe" or something like that. WELL AT LEAST IT HAD *SOME* DT CONTENT!

I had a perfectly good thing going with only showing up on IRC #ytsejam and never actually posting anything to the jam and you go ruining it by trolling for a message from me. :)
As to whether I do another one of these tape swap things: I haven't really decided yet. Things are still wrapping up from the one that I did, but as far as I know everyone is getting their tapes and all the comments I've heard have been extremely positive. I know that personally I got a lot of cool new bands to check into...
I think another go-round of the tape-swap would be a good thing though: give some of you other guys a chance to participate and others a chance for some more exposure to the underground bands. Right now my schedule is a bit goofed up with a lot of things going on, so I don't know that I want to take on more responsibility at this time. This may change in the next few weeks though, so who knows.
If any of you guys is interested in getting another one of these things off the ground, I'd be more than willing to help out with suggestions as to what worked for me... and also I'd give you my records so that participants from the first go-round don't get tapes from the same guys on the second one. Just a thought if someone wants to take it up now instead of waiting to see if I find time in a couple weeks. D-man?
