    Hi all...

My name's Brandon, and I'm the drummer for Colorado's hottest new
progressive rock band - Anthem. (Can you guess who are influences are?)
We'll be playing this Thursday night at the Paradise Club in Glendale
(used to be Bangles) - so if you live in the Denver area, come check us
out! Other than the obvious Rush and DT influences, we're really into
Fourth Estate for those of you who have heard of them. Even got to open
up for them last week - cool!

Hope to see 'ya there -

    Brandon

just wanted to remind that tomorrow is michelangelo's birthday (march 6), and
that means the michelangelo virus may be around to fuck someone's day up. so
it may perhaps be a good idea to avoid usage of the computer (especially to
log onto the net or web). the odds of actually getting it may be rare, but
there is no way to be for sure, and i wouldn't want to hear that something
bad happened to your computer, so be careful.

    see ya.

Not that anyone but two or three people know who I am but I like to think
I am part of a YTSEJAM family. Just going to ask for a few favors then
get out of here. First, if anybody can get me a copy of the Birchhill
Christmas show please e-mail me. I will do my best to recompinsate.
Also I really need copies of Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood, and B-sides
Themselves, by Marillion. Although I have not really heard any of the
stuff, I just am fumeing to, and I don't want to drive 45 minutes into
Philadelphia, and spend 25 bucks a disc. So if anyone can make me copies
of the Marillion, and or Birchhill DT show. I will hook you up with
    whatever you need. Thanks.

Also I just want to say "The REAL Andrew Miller is back" (sorry Andrew
Miller had to say it, no offense taken, right?).

    Later--->andy

Oh Yeah--- Let us Andrew Miller's, John Ngyuen's, and Joe Blow's all make
the list a part of are everyday e-mail. Nothing against Ytse-Ben, or
Bafu, or BABS, or the Chew Boys, but there should be more no names like
    me on the list.

    Mr. Mike Varney:
Isn't Magna Carta and Shrapnel part of the same company?? Why would
you want to worry about progressive metal is Magna Carta already has it
covered??? I don't know how great Neoclassical Metal will do these
days....the label immediately flashes Yngwie across my mental screen. I can
Guarentee that the public want's nothing to do with people who can shred but
sound the same on every album. Yngwie is one of those. Who else is there?
That's probably your point: There aren't any other neoclassical metal
musicians...just make sure you DON'T fall for any Yngwies......I could go
for some fresh metal though, even if it is in "Yngwie's Genre"
I wish you the best of luck. As for progressive, Auditory Imagery
is a great band with a CD out called So Alive; I'm unaware of their current
status. Leviathan's "Deepest Secrets Beneath" is a great CD, and Imperium's
"Too Short a Season" kicks ass as well; I don't know what either of these
other bands are up to either. Good luck and keep the Ytsejam up to date!!!

****By the Way. The opinions about Yngwie are the opinions of the
author (me) and any amount of flaming or disagreeing WILL NOT change the
fact that I think Yngwie HAS to get into a different business***

    Muzz and Whimbish

Sorry, I listened to a few songs off Living Color's last cd
with Whimbish, I wasn't impressed and I also haven't heard
Whimbish's past work but For muzz, I think he's excellent
and the tapes I have of him with LC are great and a great
    example of bass playing.

OK....Jeff Chew is talking about Ytsecon III for late June. Jeff---Sinista is
talking to DT management about possibly getting them or some of them to the
Mid-Ytse-Con. I don't wanna be a drag, but. Can you talk with us first re: the
latest East Coast thang. We midwesterners would like a chance to get these
guys out here and if we have competing events, it'll only hurt us both (us
more than you re:travel). E-mail me so we can discuss. I don't want
factionalism to occur. Right now we were aiming for late June early July.

Um, this is a Dream Theater list, dickbrain. Now, look. I don't know if you just feel like causing trouble, or if you don't get enough attention at home. Maybe another pointblank subscriber put you up to this (a co-worker, maybe?), but stop. You're not funny, and you're wasting our time. And watch out, there's a .sig file coming.

    >From: keu@pointblank.com > >Heres a Question: What is the infauation with DT???? Its not >like they are the BEST PROG. Band out there... There are a hell of alot >of bands out there that are STILL better then DT!!!

This mailing list is for "progressive rock/metal with a focus on Dream Theater." There may be bands out there that are better than DT, but we are here, for the most part, to talk about DT. The reason that everyone here is "infatuated (with a *T*) with DT" is that we got on here to talk about them in the first place. He also mentions that Slaughter is a better band because they have sold millions of records. to paraphrase, "Record sales is no fucking guarentee!" Selling millions of records doesn't prove a thing. Yes, they have a large following, but I would be willing to say that if you compare Slaughter's following to it's publicity and do the same with DT, you sill find that DT has just as large, if not larger, following for the limited airplay they get. DT writes songs on the average of 8 minutes in length, not exactly "radio- friendly." A million records sold could mean nothing more than a million blind sheep following the crowd. I'm not saying Slaughter is any better or worse than DT, I'm just saying that we talk about DT because we are here to do just that.

His whole post seems to be flame-bait. Please post in a sensible manner, and don't degrade yourselves and the 'jam.

Sorry about the bisexual name dudes. I am Man. First off, does anyone have Faith No More's most recent album? I want to get it but haven't heard it yet. How does it compare to The Real Thing and Angel Dust? Second, about musical taste. I listen to everything I hear that I like. I haven't heard any country or rap that I like so far, but I still listen to it with an open ear. If I like it I'll get it. I listen to music that comes from the heart of the player. B.B. King doesn't just play southern black blues, he IS southern black blues. That's music from the heart. As John Petrucci told Guitar World, "All that really matters is attitude." So, play what you are and don't stop others from playing what they are. I agree that the DTdenvercon is hopeless, so, does anyone know the next time DT will be in Denver? I haven't seen them live yet and I am curious to see if the fans mosh or if they sit and watch in complete awe. Hey, I'd pay 20 dollars to see it. Other than Denver, I would have to say Vegas, because my grandparents live there and I could get free room and board. John P's solo that changes effects on ACoS sounds like he was trying to make an easier transition from the solo sound to the heavily distorted sound so as to not distract listeners by switching effects while playing the distorted part.

Could someone please reply with the songs and riffs which are similar? (You might want to include the time in the songs where there's similarity, since I don't see any other easy way to identify a certain riff) Thanks to all who reply. I just wanted to extend a big hi-five to Steve, Mojoman, and D-man for backing me up on the whole Poison/Warrant/DT-thing.

P.S. I'm up for a west coast Ytsecon. Also, to the jammer that said they were going to the Galactic Cowboys show at the Troubador in LA: there's a chance I might be in town around then. If so, I'll definitely be there too.

As you can see in the message header, SORRY BEN. Try this then Be sundae Sal.

My reference to Dream Theater in the past sence in regards to their recordings was because to the best of my knowledge the last official release was ACOS. Therefore what they have played seemed to me the correct thing to say on the subject matter. ALSO when you are a 10 year old kid any instrument is cool. Since I have been friends with John's younger brother since I was six, I have been over his house when he played the violin on more than one occasion.

MOJOMAN; Sorry I did not distinguish that I was doing tech work for the band Marcello at the time and he was the producer of their never released second album. I was there in the studio with John Miceli the drummer who now plays with Meatloaf. So shovel this.
