Greetings to all
I know DT won't be touring the UK until 1997, but I was still after
some poss info.
In Neil Elliot's great fanzine Images and Words, mention was made of
the poss of DT thinking of touring with either Rush or Queensryche.
Does anyone know if either of these if a distinct possibility as I
know 'ryche have no plans for this year and so perhaps they will have
a new release and tour next year which would be superb.
My thoughts are the DT teaming up with 'ryche would be a simply
amazing concert, and if anyone else feels the same please let me know.

Message-ID: <199603051321.FAA04568@mindcrime.ax.com>
Hi guys. I'm new of this list, hope this mail gets thru ....
I was in New Milford last summer, at the clinic JP did for the NGSW. He played
this awesome piano study of Chopin, first alone, and then on a base of
basically the left hand alone. All I remember is that it was VERY chromatic.
Does anyone knows what the study can be? I'd really love to hear the piano
version and try it on the guitar myself.
On a side note, I'm right now learning Erotomania. As you may guess, I'm done
with all the parts but one. It's the very fast part which starts at about 5:30
(measure 135 c.ca if you happen to have a midi file or sheet music). The
transcription I use is out of a guitar magazine (don't remember which one),
and I'm afraid is not very correct. Does anyone knows of a more correct
transcription (cannot find any DT book here in The Netherlands).
Thanx a bunch,
Cesare

Hey all,
My very fist post on the new unmoderated 'jam (due to the fact
that I have no opinion about the sexiness of various members of DT, or
about a new Ytsecon since it will surely be too far for me to travel
to)(that means I second the vote for Denver). Nothing personal, I'm just
not interested. That said, I'll move on to what does interest me.

expected to be on this? Any instructional material, or is it all just (I
by no means wish this to be taken perjoratively) entertainment type
stuff? Thanks much.

Hey all, it's Greg here, not BABS, not Bafu, not YtseBen, not a Chew brother.
So, what I have to say is useless! Nah, can't be that bad...
A few albums have been suggested to me by fellow 'Jammers and here are my
thoughts (if you don't care hit your mail reader's delete key, ie, if you
don't like them, I dont give a flying @#$%, nor do I want to hear about it!):
Magellan - Impending Ascension - cool, and DT fans who happens to like Yes
will not feel they have wasted their money. The lyrics do not
always flow, but musically, Magellan is quite talented.
Saga - Generation 13 - well, it's not bad. Most DT fans who like the heavier
side of music may not entirely like it...while I don't mind it and
only paid $14 for it, I could live without it - it does not get
played often - too much of a 80's pop/rock sound if you ask me (yeah,
I know you didn't -- shut up and read!)
Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone - very cool. I really like the music here.
Hell, there is even a thank you inside from the band for buying the
CD...now that is class! They are no DT, but DT fans will enjoy
this CD - go find it!
Fatez Warning - jus' kiddin' guys! - like I need to say anything. If you like
DT and QR - you will like FW. Actually, I've been into FW as long
as DT - "Point of View" got a lot of play on Canada's Much Music -
I just had to say something about them here...
Can't wait for the new DT CD <- DT content?

because he does not have a shitbox mainframe in the way!

Hi there,
What first occurs to my mind when I think Ytsecon is the Participation of
the Band. It seems to me that we unfortunately have to tend to the
convienience of Management and Dream Theater's schedule. This is beyond our
control. If Ytsecon III were held in Long Island or New Jersey, there is a
greater chance (not guaranteed, but indeed greater) that the members of
Dream Theater would show up.
So what do you guys think?

I finally finish reading the last 'Jam with nothing to respond, and what
happens? A new one drops in my box. So:
Please have the next Ytse-Con in my bathroom. It's terribly convenient and
I won't have to leave to go to the bathroom because ... well, you get it.
Oh wait, didn't I already do one of these? Nevermind.
DT singing in Icelandic? No, I don't think I would like it as much. I'm a
big fan of lyrics. As much as I tried to like bands like Helloween and
Gamma Ray when I heard them, the lyrics made me laugh too much to take them
seriously. Same with Awaken the Guardian by Fates. I won't buy any of
their earlier albums simply because I wouldn't be able to hand any more
blasphemous black bibles betraying bigotry or whatever with a few more 'b'
alliterations.
And to those who think that "screwed over by a woman" songs have no depth:
Well, if I ever get around to riting my serious pieces, don't buy them. :)
I have 3 or four album-length stories to tell. But, to be completely
honest, it's more of a "failed attempts at relationships" than specifically
"screwed-over" songs. (Well, the second concept album is a screwed-over
one) and these times were ones where the depths of depression and anger that
I went through gave me life-changing insight. So, in a nutshell: DOn't
underestimate the depth of being screwed over! (is that really what I
meant? I dunno)
um.

<><><><><><><> "Stop your grinnin', and drop your linen!" <><><><><><><>
Hey everyone (not gonna say it!!! 8^) )
This was quite the weekend for me. I got 8, count 'em 8 CDs
altogether!!
First off, I finally picked up my own copy of WDADU. Great
instrumentation, and I have to say Charlie's vocals aren't all that bad.
Given that I think LaBrie's better, but CDs not as bad as some make him
out to be.
I also picked up Filter's Short Bus...good industrial-type stuff.
Richard Patricks voice hits a nerve once in a while, but altogether it
ain't bad.
Found out that Faith No More has a live album. Thats right, its called
"Live at Brixton Academy" and its from "The Real Thing" tour. Mike
Patton's vocals aren't all they could be, but the sound is excellent.
Also picked up FW latest "Inside Out". Now here is some excellent
music. If you're into stuff like Queensryche, DT, Iron Maiden, etc...I
highly reccomend Fates Warning. Great Stuff.
Now to top it all off, I got home and found Mike Bahr's WDATU waiting in
my mailbox! #344 Outstanding piece of work...get it if you haven't
ordered one already!
Now I've got to say a few words about musicians. I'm not the major
source on the topic (I can play a few chords), but I got a few ideas from
my sister (whos new album'll be out in a few months!!! :) ) Basically
its that (especially in the arena of today's alternative music) JUST
BECAUSE THE MUSICIANS DON'T PLAY COMPLEX STUFF DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY
CAN'T PLAY COMPLEX STUFF. Like for instance, my sister's guitarist is
one of the best she's seen her whole life, but she asks him to play
simpler stuff than he can for the sake of the music's mood. I've seen a
lot of people hacking on today's alternative musicians for being a bunch
of untrained slobs whacking away at the strings...not necessarily true.
As a savior clause...just because they don't doesn't mean they can,
either. In the imortal words of Type-O Negative "Don't mistake lack of
talent for genius"
That is all, that is enough!

Hey, everyone, Its me again! Don't worry, no more controversy. Are we all
Ytse-friends? :)
First, I got my copy of the Birch Hill show today (BTW will someone give me
JR McCollough's e-mail address so I can thank him?). Overall, IT RULED! I
thought it was all great. Highlights: 1)Crowd seems awesome from the moment
they start singing Take The Time 2)Mini Medely (D Inc. sounds better with no
vox than with the guy from Napalm Death, IMHO) 3)ACOS-I don't need your...
BTW I still don't get the please don't go thing. Will someone fill me in?
4)Scarred because...it's Scarred! 5)Electric TSM sounded thin. It sounds
better on the Malibu show (BTW, thanx again, Heath!). That reminds me-Could I
maybe play guitar on electric TSM on the tribute thingy? It's a real easey
song to learn, and I've got it all except for teh soloing. 6)Bad-I didn't
like this song when it was on Acoustic Dreams, but now that I can actually
HEAR it, I think It's a great song. 7)That funky new keys sound at the
beginning of LTL) Lowlights:NONE!
Second, the winner of the Ytse-Elections, BAFU VAI! Do you have an acceptance
speech, Bafu? Now vice should be the one with the second most votes, but
since that was RESPONSE at IBMMAIL, I think Ben should accept on behalf of
RESPONSE. After all, Ben recieved almost no votes for prez, (sorry, Ben!) but
an overwhelming number of people thought Ben should be vice. How about an
acceptance speech from you? Only runner up was Mike Bahr, so maybe we should
find him a position. Any suggestions?
