There was a pretty decent response to the Ytsejam's favorite Iron Maiden
album poll. Thanks to everyone for voting.

    1. Seventh Son of A seventh Son (by one vote over Powerslave!)
    2. Powerslave
    3. Somewhere In Time (tie)
    3. Number Of The Beast (tie)
    4. P. of Mind (tie)
        Live After Death (tie)
Somewhere in Time and Number of the Beast were tied, as were P.of Mind
and L. After Death. All the albums that are ranked received at least two
votes (#4). These six albums were the only albums named, however one
person voted for all the Iron Maiden albums, saying that they are all so
    good, he couldn't choose. Thanks.

opened for rush on the "roll the bones" tour.

    Dear guys,

Okay, I'm sure that you guys read Babs' post on the jam. Well, it's hard
to say when they'd be finished recording the album. But, I guess that
the con can be bumped to say mid to late June? I can't bump it too far
because a lot of people will be away from college, which means they won't
be able to check e-mail. Also, people could already have summer plans
doing other things. Like me, for instance. I plan to be in Hong Kong
over the summer, and it's sort of hard to organize something when you're
on the other side of the earth ;)

But anyways, I've already asked someone to give me all of the dates for
the clinics. Babs, did you mention when the convention might be to Don?
I'm not sure, but I'm hoping that they'll be done recording by early
    June? Hopefully....(I hope!)

I guess that we just have to wait and see what happens on the band's
    end. TTYL!

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

    Hi Bafu
Thanks for the compliment on my sig. I copied the frog and cat
from someone else (hee hee) I am not capable of original thought.

What do you mean IF Dream Theater ever does a Queen cover?
Haven't you been listening to Ay-Cose? They do Bohemian Rhapsody (good
    call, Garth)

Oh yeah, one more thing. Please, please have YtseCon in Las
Vegas or San Francisco. It would work out so wonderfully since I just
happen to live in the SF Bay Area. Now that I'm done with my little
selfish plugs I think I will get off my ass and go to school.

            Later, dudes.

Hi everybody it's BABS... Sorry, couldn't resist! 8^)

Just want to let everyone know that a new and improved version of the
internationally renowned Dream Theater "Unoffical" Song Book is ready
for your perusal. Get a copy today, tell your friends... 8^)

The best way to get it is from my web page. For those with no web
access, you will have to wait until it is added to the mailing list's
archive (when it is I will let everyone know). Thanks, and enjoy!

The Dream Theater "Unofficial Song Book" is a complete listing of all Dream
Theater lyrics (Official releases, singles, EPs, cover tunes, the Kevin
Moore demos, etc.). It is available via the following methods:

    WWW: http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/dt/dt.htm
    FTP: www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/dt/dt_sb12.txt

Email from the Ytsejam Mailing List Archive send:
        get ytsejam dt_sb12.txt
    Address it to: ytsejam-request@ax.com
    with a subject of: asdf

If you wish to include links from your web pages, the name of the actual
file changes with each revision (but I'll let everybody know when that
happens). The WWW address listed above will not change (so that's a safe
one). But the following are subject to change (when ever I find the time
    and/or new material to add):
       Dream Theater page: http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/dt/dt.htm
       ASCII Song Book: http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/dt/dt_sb12.txt
       HTML Song Book: http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/dt/dt_sb12.htm

If you can't get a copy using the above methods or have any comments or
questions, send me an email at mrkizer@ccgate.hac.com

I don't know how many of you guys really know the details
about Berklee but you have been talking a lot about it. For
starters, Berklee is a dedicated private jazz and rock
instructional school for numerous different instruments.
Getting into the school is not as difficult as you might
think. They have class placement. The better that you are
the higher up the so called ladder in placement you are.
When you are accepted they sit you down in front of a piece
of music and make you sight read it, solo over the chord
progression in either or both jazz and rock styles, and also
make you take a written test on music theaory to see what you
already know. How successful a person is on these tests
determines their class placement. You will get more out of
the school if you go in with a good bit of previous training
though. Another thing it is expensive!!! Remember, Dream
Theater only went there for a couple of symesters. A lot of
their talent came from other instructors and a little self
teaching. Just because someone went to Berklee it doesn't
mean that they are the best musicians on the planet. I got
accepted into Berklee but could not afford the $20,000 dollar
a year tab that comes with it. I'm just learning on my own
and with an instructor and I don't think that I am going to
suffer in my playing because I could not afford to go.

    Rob Barker
P.S. In my opinion, Dream Theater should be up for a Grammy.
The Grammy's need a Best of Progessive category!!!

That's it! Babs figured it out! Kevin had an affair with John P.'s wife and they had a kid who now lives in secrecy with Mark Zonder and Tori Amos. Meanwhile, she was carrying another man's twins (namely, John's), and that's why he had to leave the band! Then he cut his hair as a disguise, and faked testicle cancer so that John would never guess that his wife had Kev's kid! Way to go, Babs!

Has anybody besides me certain mixing 'mistakes' on ACOS? for example at the end of Petrucci's solo in 'The Darkest of Winters' right b4 the jazzy part, it appears to end w/ a total different guitar sound like they just put it at the end. There's also the fact that when James sings really loud it gets slightly distorted... also, if you turn up the volume at the very end, you'll notice that the fade-out is rather abrupt... just some observations...

BTW... is it me, or has Debbie been getting a lot of 'IT's your opinion, and everybody has there own' email... just another curious observation... give her a break people:)

    >Scott Travis?? As in Racer X?? I heard "Painkiller" a long time ago and >was fascinated by the drumming, but never got into Judas Priest. I've also >been listening to Racer X's "Live Extreme Volume" for the last year >wondering if "Mister Scott Travis onda drumkit!!" ever got into another >band. Now I gotta check out Judas Priest...

Actually Scott left Judas Priest, when Rob Halford did, to join Fight. I've heard some of the singles off their records, (one is called _War of Words_ and they have one more) and they kick. The only problem with this band is that one of the guitarists likes to double Halford's vocals death-metal-style. It's pretty lame; thank God it's low in the mix.

"Nailed to the Gun" is an excellent tune.

    Well,

I'm in Canada and no one seems too high on having one here! I vote for a central location: Chicago is good, Detroit would be even better.

    Just my opinion, Lugie.

Due to the fact that I no longer have as much free time as I did when I was a senior in high school (when I first started the fanzine, two years ago), (part of it because I spend so much time trying to keep up with the ^!%$@&! Jams!)I have decided that I'm going to reduce the number of fanzine issues to four a year (as opposed to six). This is also due to the fact that I'm having a harder time with each issue getting people to send me stuff to print - this is a forum for all DT fans; I'm not going to write the whole thing myself. The price itself will not change, but the subscription will; it is now $5 US/$8 foreign for an entire year. Fortunately, this coincides with a lot of current subscriptions ending.

To those of you whom I owe back issues: I've had a really hard time getting to the print shop, but I *will* make it there before the weekend, this I vow. To those of you wondering when the heck I'm going to get the new issue out, I'm a-workin' on it; I'm currently sans an ink cartridge for my printer, and I would like to collect another 2-3 pages of material before I put it out. I'm anticipating late March or early April.

I put out my pitiful plea one more time: contributions, pleeeeeeease!!!! I would like a review of any of the other DT shows after Christmas; Hairball so generously provided me with one of the sardine can show, but I would like reviews of the others as well. I would also very much appreciatge any photos anyone has to contribute, be they the actual photos or in file form (I can view .jpg, .bmp, or .gif at my AOL account).

I will not be availble for contact after 5PM on the 8th until the 17th (Spring Break at last!!!), but other than that, feel free to email me with any inquiries, preferably at my AOL address: Maraya007@aol.com
