Has anyone besides me in this world heard a band called Crimson
Glory? There are a lot like DT but without the keyboard effects and
stuff. But if your into guitar, you should check them out. The guitar
players work really well together. And about this new age music?? I
seen someone said something about no one knows music well enough to
appreciate the style and talents of DT. I agree totally. It sucks that
almost all of these new bands comming out can't play a song to save
their life! The singers sound like my dog howling at a train or
something... Drums?? hmmm, I've heard sheep fuck with more harmony
than that! And a lot of these guitar players are just pathetic! I
think that it's really extraordinary that the DT member have found each
other!! Keep up the excellent work DT, and especially John Petrucci!!!

Uhhh... DT still has a following, or there would be no list. They are
selling enough records to make their money, and 5 years from now, when
Grunge and Alternative have bit the dust, they will still be doing just
that. It'a about *music*, not what's *popular*.

    To Karri-
You are correct: the more exposure of prog the better (maybe). And
the "neo-classical" part of the live ACOS is amazing. I guess I just don't
have any faith for neoclassical after Yngwie ruined it. So, like I said, if
Shrapnel can find some TALENTED neoclassical people, or some other prog that
Magna Carta can't get their hands on, more power to them. NO NEW YNGWIE!!!

Just to clear up a few things...

Mike Varney did not post to the jam, I forwarded part of a message
I got from Igor, the guy in charge of neoclassical online. Shrapnel is
looking for unsigned bands in the prog/neoclassical lump.
And to Sir Ryan of Good, Yngwie isn't the only guy out there doing the
music. Have you ever seen a Shrapnel catalog? There are other players
doing Neoclassical, though few of them do it full time like Yngwie. Not
only does Shrapnel help fans of guitar music get what they want, they have an
extensive line of great blues albums, and not all by no name performers.
And as far as I know, Shrapnel and Magna Carta are not connected.
Neoclassical and shred are not dead. In a manner similar to DT they are
somewhat underground. DT isn't the biggest selling band in the world, but
they have a growing base of dedicated fans (like us) to support them.
That's what the Neoclassical Online is all about. Only the best of the
genre are still around. In the 80's there were countless lame copycats
who flooded the market and basically turned people off to shred because
there was just too much of it. Let's hope that doesn't happen to prog. In
a market sense, it happened to prog in the seventies. Many people thought
it wwas too overblown and pompus. Enter punk, the antithesis of prog.

                            It all comes around
                                    TTFN- Sean
BTW- I seem to be building up to a big rant. Just wanted to warn everyone.

Someone asked about the First Lady of the Jam. Is there a way I can be
first lady without marrying Bafu? JUst wondering...

ALso, someone else asked about the latest Faith No More album. It's OK,
abut they don't really experiment with as many styles as they did on The
Real Thing or even Angel Dust. That's my brief opinion...

It's still Faith No More, but their sound has changed a bit since Jim Martain
left. If you liked RT and AD, I'm pretty sure you'll like King for a Day.
It's one of my favorite albums actually. Each song has it's own style, they are
all different. Some songs are slow and groovey, others are fast and hard
edged. My recomendation is: If your a FNM fan, Buy it! If your not too
sure, listen to a few songs before buying it.

    Hi Joey,

I haven't been to North Texas but I did go to Berklee a few years ago. I've
heard great things about North Texas too. Here's my impression of Berklee.
Berklee is full of fantastic players and amzing teachers. But it's equally
or more filled with mediocre to poor players and not so good teachers. If
you really want to learn a lot, you can definitely do it at Berklee. You
can request particular teachers and get your butt kicked. Problem is that
your first sememster at least will not be determined by you. You might get
a lousy private lesson teacher (the Bass dept. had only 1 or 2 bad teachers
BTW) and a mix of teachers for other classes. You may get an ear training
teacher who's so easy that you don't have to practice to get an A - thereby
not learning what your grade implies. But there is a good chance that
you'll get some great teachers. I had lots of fantastic teachers. One other
thing about Berklee. It suffered (probably still does) from what my
classical teacher called East Coast Conservatory Syndrome (or something
similar). It's the philosophy that, not only do I have to be better than
you but you have to be worse than me. A strange, extremely competitive
philosophy, I think. My teacher was pushing me to go to Texas. He said
there were some great players there and the atmosphere was really good. A
lot of famous players did go to Berklee but I know some went to North
Texas. There's also a school in Florida. I think it's Southern Florida
University??? Anyway, good luck and I hope this info helps. Feel free to
email me if you want more of my 5 year old experience :).

Ha ha ha ha. Macintosh computers are immune to this virus and the number of
viruses available is significantly lower than the number available for
PC's. So I'll be surfin' while you all are worrying :D (no Mac v. PC stuff

ha ha. I remember how hard I tried to hate Duran Duran but I was finally

I sure hope that you don't feel silly about this because it took me forever
to realise any similarities. And. That was after I had learned the song (on
bass) :|. OK, so here's the only bit that I can recognise.

0:00 - this is the Erotomania riff. I don't recognize it it any other song
    3:05 - Silent Man part
3:24 - "When there is reason..." Petrucci plays the melody

I really don't hear other songs in this. I mean, I think of Erotomania as a
sort of overture to Voices and The Silent Man so I expect to hear bits of
    those tunes in there.

    Anyone else have any more?

That's Chris holding his hands to his ears and sticking out his tongue at you :)

In fact, keu, you do seem to be causing trouble if the amount of flame mail
on the 'jam is any indication. It is possible that you are being sarcastic
or attempting humour, but I would submit that you failed to convey your
intentions, if that is the case. Problem with the 'net is that words are
all there are. No body language or tone of voice. So, in the event that
something might be ambiguous, you might consider a smiley or the "<G>" or
just write "joking" or "sarcasm". That would make things more clear. Some
people have a problem with not being able to control their anger and have
an "itchy trigger finger" if you will. So before you relate more of your
implied conservative idealism on the entire Ytsejam, you might consider
reading over your posts for ambiguities and items that might be
missinterpreted then further consider something to clearly state your
    position.
