Speaking of cool sountracks, it recently occured to me that Testament's
"Low" would make a good soundtrack for a riot. If anyone here is planning
to burn a city to the ground and wreck all man-made structures in a
five-mile radius with an angry mob, this is the stuff to have in your
walkman.
(Oh yeah, R. Chris Hailey also recently mentioned that Testament might
suit Doom to a tee. I have to agree.)
Ya know, D-Man, someone once said all I did was re-post fragments of old
'jams and add smartass comments after them, but at the moment I'm waiting
for someone to slap YOU with the same title. Are we in competition for the
masters degree in Ytsejam Smartassness or something? I mean I can't keep
matching your serves, it's like 40-all, advantage D-Man...
Someone spoke of having instruments at the upcoming Ytsecon III. I
mentioned this about the first Ytsecon, which I was unable to attend, but
wouldn't it be cool to have the instruments set up beforehand so everyone
could do impromptu 'jams on particular DT songs? Heck, with DT you don't
even need to practice with each other, just play along with the albums
till you've got'em down pat. Then show up at the 'con, plug everything in
and JAM. Would that be strange or what...
Kudos to Sean Gill for some brilliant posts. :>

End of the summer. As for vocal tracks, try "Rescue Me Or Bury Me" from his last band-release "Sex & Religion." He's no LaBrie, but he's definitely a few notches above Satriani... Wait, scratch that, Courtney Love is a few notches above Satch's vocal tracks. Vai sounded to be several clouds above Satriani in the art of melodic vocal-expression.

Every man dies, not every man really lives. Carpe Diem. (besides, as an RA can't you organize a "Scottish Day" for just that purpose? get rid of those annoying residents who ring the fucking elevator alarm-bells until 4am with a few arrows. serve up some haggis in the dining hall. pass out kilts and blue face-paint. toss in a few swords, axes, and other such weaponry and voila, instant party--er, day of heritage to recognize Brave Scotland.)

Yes I have. World domination can be yours. Great game for RA's who secretly wish they could run the entire campus. ;)

That is correct. I saw the poster and wondered why the movie theater was doing ads for adult comics. Then it dawned on me that it was the actual movie being re-released.

Here is how I would like to work it. If you would like to order please copy and paste this into a reply with your info:
SUBCONSCIOUS ORDER NAME: E-MAIL: # of COPIES:
I will e-mail the first 25 people and ask that they send a money order in $U.S. I will accept a check but I must wait until it clears the bank, so this means your order will take longer to get to you. When I finish with these I will move on to the next 25 and so on. This way you don't have to part with your hard earned money so far in advance of receiving your shipment. If you don't have the money now you may ask to be put on the WAIT order list. What this means is I will WAIT for you to e-mail me when you are able to send the money and I will then put you in the next block. I ask that people do this so I know in advance how many blank CD's I need to purchase.

At least to them the justice of taking a listen to "Cemetary Gates" or "Hollow"... and in all their songs you'll find dimebag is amongst one of the most talented players today- Jon P. uses a lot of his stuff in solos. Dime also listened to guitarists such as Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen, and they both (Especially the RR in the first two albums) show in his playing.

Oh, yeah. Now that you mention it I do remember the Queen music in Flash Gordon. You can always tell their stuff since they have a really distinctive sound, as opposed to many other bands (especially alternative) which kind of all sound the same.
I remember hearing that song and going "Is that Queen?" to which my friend responded "who?"
It was a cool, movie, though. Always interesting to see Sean Connery in his younger years. HEY- Sean C was in Highlander too!
Coincidence? I think not.

Here's a question for you keyboard players... how did Kev do the background synth while plaing piano during the intro/outro of 'Surrounded'... Obviously, I'm talking about when he did it live...
BTW...All that stuff about not liking alternative... first of all, IMO alternative never has and never will be a particular type of music. It is a scene... the music industry has used the word 'alternative' just to make money in expense of inexperienced bands who are being exploited... As always, of all the bands that strike it big during a certain trend, only a few are REALLY good... so don't complain about the bands or the music... complain about how the music industry has turned music into a business... Besides, most "alternative" bands are just plain rock bands... remember art always goes through phasese (renaissance, romanticism), and simplicity is what is popular in rock right... that's just how it is... the problem is that since simple music is popular, a lot of bands w/ little talent actually make it...
Anyaways, I consider all the 80's bands usually referred to as has-beens to be the current 'alternative' scene...(Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, etc...)
If anybody wants to hear good neoclassical rock, check out Rata Blanca (White Rat:)) their an Argentinan band... they sing in spanish, but I don't think anybody'll mind...
BTW...do you guys in the states ever hear or hear about any Spanish rock bands? jez' wonderin'

Can anyone confirm what Randall reported: that MTV will launch a new cable channel focusing on actual MUSIC? If so, it's about fucking time. Obviously it won't be able to encompass everything, but maybe now some less trendy bands will have a shot. I still say that the major label video channel that was proposed a couple of years ago would have brought MTV to its knees. Richie

Hey Marc R - You hit the nail on the head! That is exactly what I have been thinking about Erotomania - that it's like an overture to the next 2 songs ( a musical foreshadowing) and that just shows another facet to DT's songwriting prowess.
> >Anyone else have any more? >
Yea I do - in "The Mirror", at almost exactly 1 minute from the end (sorry I don't have the CD handy - can't give you a 0:00 setting) there is another "foreshadowing" - of the melody of "Space Dye Vest" - same chord progression ( I, #V, I, #V) and melody.
Also, to Brandon from Denver - Damn! I'm from Aurora, but just last Friday I got transferred to Tennessee (I work for U S WEST) and I woulda came to your show at the Paradise, but no can do now. Shit! I saw Fourth Estate a couple of years ago, and bought their CD on the spot, from Fred the bass player, and got them all to sign it. As you know, they're incredible musicians, and I'm surprised but happy to see their name mentioned on the 'Jam! Their CD is in my car changer, along with Awake, I&W, LatM, ACoS, WDADU, Alien Love Secrets (by Bafu Vai, I think), Passion & Warfare (same dude), Echolyn (As the World. . .) and believe it or not, Foo Fighters. Anyway, please let us know how the show went, and when you will be playing around Denver again (I get to fly back every other weekend, so maybe I can catch you guys sometime!)

ok, get this. i found the following on the steve vai home page:
"September 28,1996 - Rochester, New York
September 28th, 1996 will mark the birth of the Steve Vai / Joel Thome orchestral collaboration. The performance will take place at the Eastman School of Music's Concert Hall and will feature Steve and a 60 piece orchestra performing new compositions and orchestrations from 'Passion and Warfare.' Joel Thome will conduct. As both Steve and Joel have strong Zappa roots, you can expect many Zappa alumni to participate as guest artists. Capacity is only 3,000 and tickets will go on sale in june. Stay tuned for more information of this historic event."
HOLY SHIT! i don't know if this an isolated performance, or part of a tour, but WOW!

Elliott,
I have enjoyed your posts before, and I agree with your HO on this, but you just hit on my PPP (Personal Pet Peeve). Aaaarghhh! It's JIBE, not, I repeat - NOT, JIVE! I HATE it when people do that!

jive (jiv), n., v., jived, jiving. -n. 1. Slang. the jargon of jazz abd swing musicians. 2. Slang. unintelligible or deceptive talk. 3. Obsolesc. jazz or swing. -v.i., v.t. 4. Slang. to fool or kid (someone).

Last 'jam, somebody asked what "erotomania" meant. Well, I'll see if i can remember. Interestingly, I found this definition in David Letterman's biography when i read it last summer. Anyway, it said something like that erotomania is an unhealthy romantic obsession with another individual (I can't remember EXACTLY what it said, but that should be close, and I'm too lazy to go get my dictionary). This definition was given in the chapter about that lady that used to keep breaking into Letterman's house. It said she suffered from what is known as "erotomania." Interesting. Maybethere is a DT/Letterman connection after all ;). Catch you all later. God bless.
