You know, if progressive ever became mainstream, it would just be shoved
into the Alternative category anyway! It would lose its label and become
thrown in with "Bush" "Pearl Jam" and all those other somewhat talented bands.
I mean, if Hootie is Alternative and U2 is Alternative, what next? Maybe
Van Halen will be Alternative? Point to ponder...

Just my thoughts is all that was...DT needs to become "mega" in about 5 years
when hopefully (fingers crossed) this "Everything new is alternative because
we aren't smart enough to classify things anymore" stage in the music industry
    has passed...

Just picked up the Silent Man single at Best Buy in Des Moines, Iowa of all
places for $10. Hey, if anybody has the lyrics to "EVE" I'd like to know
what they are! Ha ha ha Does anybody have an opinion about which TTT is
preferred? I like the mix on the single better than the one on IAW, but that
    is just my opinion.

Ytsejammers, as I said on my first appearence to the Ytsejam I
caught one of Mike Portny's drum clinics on the 3rd of this month. After
the clinic Mike gave all his fans an oppurnity to sign autographs. I had
him sign a few things of mine. One item I had him sign is the Limited
Edition Poster Issue of the offical DT fanzine Immages & Words. This
rare item is an issue of the DT fanzine that folds out into a poster.
On the cover there is a picture of the entire band. Mike signed the fanzine
on the outer cover above his picture. This item is a great addition to anyone's
collection if they are a big DT fan. If anyone is interested in this
make me an offer and I will get back to you.

Well, I guess I'll have to step in as the Info source for Queen. Queen's "A Kind of Magic" 91986) included the most prominent songs from Highlander: Princes of the Universe, One Year of Love, Gimme the Prize, Don't lose your Head. The same album also included "One Vision", the theme song from "Iron Eagle" The survivalist is listening to a song from Queen's previous album, "The Works" (1984) in his car. The song is "Hammer to Fall"

In 1980, Queen did the entire soundtrack for the re-make of "Flash Gordon" This included a few vocal songs, "Flash's Theme" "The Hero" and the aptly titles "Flash's Theme Reprise" as well as 15 short instrumental tracks. They all appear on the Queen Album "Flash Gordon" (catchy title) and is, to my knowledge, the only true "Soundtrack" album by them. This is from 1980, so it predates "Who wants to Live forever" by a few years. It is possible, however, that the line from Flash inspired part of the music, but the story as I remember it is: Freddy saw a rough cut of the death scene of Heather, then wrote "WWTLF", which, after played to the makers of the movie, they liked so much they made it a major theme of the film.

Whew. Can you tell who one of my favorite groups was before I discovered DT? Here's a hint: They were tied with Metallica. :)

Trivia: What popular song was in the first Highlander movie, but NOT on any album released by Queen? (No fair watching the movie to find out)

    I fully support YtseVegasCon.

I saw a .sig quote that said something like "The greatest trick of the devil was convincing people that he didn't exist" -- the atheist's response: And the greatest trick of God was convincing people that _he_ existed. Hey DT Addicts!

Some of you may find this interesting...I met someone who has a local TV show here in Columbus on a public access station, and to make a long story short, he is coming to my house tomorrow to do film an entire show!

He wanted some new topics for his program, and I was immediately into helping him out with ideas:) The show will be mostly on Dream Theater!! He's going to film me getting on tthe internet and explaining some things, then film my DOOM2 game network down here, which will lead into the Doom2 DT level, which will lead into the main topic...the band! He will dub clips from my DT Live in Tokyo video into the show, and we'll discuss progressive rock, and some of DT's history and present! The show will be about a 45 minute spot scheduled to air the first week of April here in Columbus Ohio. The camera man and host will be here at 3pm tomorrow (saturday) to start filming!!!!

Now I need a favor...I can't rememebr exactly how I subscribed to Ytsejam@ ax.com. I would like to display some email addresses and URL's on the screen while the show is aired, so that people interested in DT can check out sites and subscribe to Ytsejam. If anyone can remember (i know its to: ytsejam@ax.com subscribe username, but thats all i rememebr) please email the instructions to subscribe to the newsletter.

I'm really psyched about this because my friends and I get to be on a TV show doing our favorite things! Playing Doom2 and listening to Dream Theater!!! I think this will be good exposure for the band, and if only 5 people out of all that see the show actually go out and buy a DT CD, then I have accomplished my goal! Just another small contribution to the growing effort to keep DT around without having to sellout:)

    Happy Jammin! Buster

After finally catching up on the last 30 digests (so I was BORED)... I figured its about time to come out of my lurking state....

I just picked up The Silent Man single at a local store today, and have been playing 'Eve' over and over much to the dismay of my co-workers, who think Progressive is adding another slot to a toaster :(

Anyways, since I have more time on my hands than I used to I guess I'll be putting on my fire proof undies, and having at it. :)

How about at the con when we jam with DT, we take a half hour of our time out and have everyone who can play any indtrument they have with them get up on stage and have a mega Ytse-Rendition of ACOS! We'd have like 50 people all up on stage jamming at once! I'm sure most of us know little bits and pieces, if not the whole song. Play what you know! If there's a part you don't know, stop playing! i'm sure that there will be someone there to fill in for you. If you don't play an instrument, take the mic! If you can't sing, just dance or mosh or something, but I think that everyone should be involved in this part. Anyone with me? later--------------Brian

I had one, man. This is bugging me. You all started talking about dreams involving Dream Theater, and I had one last night. Here it is:

I had just gotten home to Long Island from here in Vermont for spring break, a good 7 or 8 hour trip. So, in the morning, my mother comes into my room and wakes me up. I have visitors, she says. So, I go downstairs and MojoMan and Mike Portnoy are hanging out in my living room! Turns out, there was some contest for tickets over the Jam, and I won. Mike had come to deliver the tickets personally. And the tickets were for a DT show, like, that night or something, or maybe the next night, but it was really far away. Like, Baltimore or something. So, Mike gave me the tickets and left. Just took off. No goodbye or nothing. But, hey, I had free tickets. So, we hopped into MojoMan's car, grabbed a 12-pack from a gas station, and headed to Baltimore.

    Weird, huh?

Hi all, It seems that most of the opportunities for jammers to get together at a DT show, Ytsecon or ProgDay/ProgFest type of event is back on the east coast leaving us west coast prog fans feeling left out. I know of a few jammers out here and other prog music fans that might be interested in the following: Three prog rock bands have decided to collaborate on a ProgDay event here in the S.F. Bay Area and are in the planning stages of where, when and how. The bands are New Sun, Puppet Show and Call To Arms. We may get others but for now at least the three of us (yes I am one of the musicians in Call To Arms), will be involved. So, with this in mind, I'd like to pose the following questions: o Who out there would be interested in attending a show like this? o Is anyone out there willing to get involved and if so, how?: We could use any help in the following areas: - Knowledge of or access to a suitable venue - Knowledge of any signed Prog act who might want to headline (Anyone know how to reach Shadow Gallery or Magellan or anyone else?) - Web page owners willing to help us advertise the event? - Light and/or sound technicians wanting to help? We have some of the above being investigated already and would like to target late April or May to put on this show. Depending on the number of bands and the other logistics, this could be multi-day event. Any and all feedback should be sent to me offline from the Ytsejam or ProgMaestro digests. Thanks, Paul

    well, here we go again...

    >BTW, were any Texas Jammers at that Pantera show? what a coincidence! I was there too! Hey, remember the bassist for Crowbar? There wasn't any room on the stage for the rest of the band. But Pantera did indeed rock the house. It was sort of sad, yet funny to see Phillip Anselmo too stoned to know what songs they were playing next. I'd look forward to DT coming to Dallas/FW (that's Fort Worth, not Fates Warning.), but it looks pretty slim. San Antonio is a possibility. I smell road trip!!!
