Well, I've just finished tallying the results for my little poll. I
asked you what your favorite Dream Theater song was. Many of you
responded--thanks. I know myself that it's very hard to pick a favorite
DT song. After all, they're all good. We wouldn't have this list if
only one song was good. Anyway, I received votes for a total of 16
different songs. But here were the top three (drumroll):

    1. Learning to Live
    2. Metropolis
    3. Scarred

    Thanks, and keep on jammin',

    Hey all ...

Here is the new IRC section for the FAQ. IF anyone has anything to add or anything else please contact me.

    IRC

Ryan "Skadz" Skadberg (skadz@dreamt.org) has set up an IRC Server just for Dream Theater and ProgMusic known as YtseNet. To get on and chat with all the other YtseJammers, do the following:

Get on to IRC how you normally would.

Once on change your server to:

    irc.dreamt.org 2112

This can be done in most cases by typing:

    /server irc.dreamt.org 2112

at your IRC Prompt. Once you have done this, join the channel #ytsejam. This can be done by:

    /join #ytsejam

    with most IRC Clients.

    Pat "Gabbo" Griffin adds:

    http://www.phlab.missouri.edu/~c675311/mirc.html

I have a modified version of mIRC there with instructions on getting it set up. It's about a 3 step process, and hooks you strait to the DT server. I tested it all out, and I was able to get on the server w/i 30 seconds of getting to the lab.

Hi, I'm not sure if this was posted before but someone asked for the chopin song John plays at his guitar clinics. It's "Etude No.2, opus 10". He focus this song in his guitar lessons in the "guitarworld-online". This month he started with some practice-stuff to get started with chromatics. He continues with that next month. Maybe in may or june he offers the whole transcription, I think. Look at "http://www.guitarworld.com" for "lessons". They rule !

So what are YOUR relevant posts?

You posted about Ozzy, Kotzen, your favorite CD's/Bands... I didn't saw any posting of you that had any serious DT content, which is the aim of this mailing list, if you don't know..."DT and drugs" IS obviously referring to DT, so it's important for this list. It's people like you that make this list more and more inattractive since Ken Bibb doesn't moderate anymore :-(

Oh, this mailing list isn't a hotline or something. Please ask somewhere else what's wrong with you mail program, ok? This is the Dream Theater mailing list.

Isn't it possible to keep this list interesting without Ken Bibb's moderation?

Hmmm. I know it's been mentioed before, but although Mr Malmsteen is very very talented, doesn't he know it? Have a look on the front of Magnum-opus (in my opinion a pretty dull album). That air of pretentiousness and superiority is pretty self evident to me. His guitar is aloft and the initials "YM" are embossed in a excalibur-style sword. Hasn't he also get a reputation for taking it out on his guitars? I remember a magazine over here branded him "The Silliest Man In Metal" with a picture of him shooting his after throwing it in his swimming pool. Anyway, thats my opinion over,

Hello, fellow jammers! I know that myself, I am always very interested to find out about new up and coming prog-bands, so I thought maybe there are some more people like me out there. To get to the point, I'm part of a five piece pogressive hard rock band from Chicago called PROFILE. As far as I know, we're one of a handful of prog-bands in the area. (Chicago isn't a very good scene for any other kind of original music besides alternative, these days.) We recorded a 6-song, 43 minute CD self-titled PROFILE. Obviously, like any other hard rock band with keyboards doing more than background work, we're compared to DT. But I can tell you that Rush and ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) are probably a lot more apparent as influences. We had the honor of backing up Kansas when they came to town to support "Freaks Of Nature", which I've got to say is their best work since the late '70's. Anyway, about my CD, I'm selling them for $7 each. Anyone interested in getting copy should e-mail me at:abunk@mail.luc.edu or send me a check or money order for $10 ($7 for the CD, $3 for S&H) payable to Andy Bunk at P.O.Box 388794, Chicago, IL 60638-8794 Thanks for your time! Sincerely,

I am sure there are a couple of Yes fans on this list. And I am also sure most of those Yes fans know the current band line-up of; Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, and Alan White. But did any of you get to see that set-list of the show they played last week. In one word it was Amazing.

Set list -- Firebird Suite Siberian Khatru Close to the Edge I've Seen All Good People Time and a Word And You and I The Revealing Science of God (all 20 minutes of it) Going for the One Turn of the Century America Onward Awaken Roundabout Starship Trooper

The balls these guys have for not playing any Rabin music, not that they should have, but it's amazing. It's more than obvious they didn't wimp out on the song selection. I can't wait to hear the live album, and see the video. Not to mention when the start the real tour, WOW! FYI, the live album will have 2-4 new tracks, studio, ranging in time from 8-12 minutes.

Long live Yes, and the random ytse-revolution.

I was listening to a Winter Rose boot I have. Someone said that they were a glam band. I dont think so. Glam bands sorta have a punk feel to them. Winter Rose does not. I consider Winter Rose a hard rock band sort of along the lines of Danger Danger, great vocals, and a guitarist who knows more than a few chords. I think that if Winter Rose was around in the early 80's they would have been a success.

I also listend to a Cynic boot I have that was on the other side of Winter Rose. Whats up with these guys? Musically I would sya they have a progressive feel. The distorted vocals take a lot to get used to and I am not sure I care for them.

Okay, to all of those "Alternative" music listeners, I think you are full of crap!!! Chill out! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ALTERNATIVE MUSIC!!!!!@!@!@!@! It is not a Music Catagory, but rather a lifestyle and a dress. The music still falls into Punk, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and various other typs of music. It is not a stand alone MUSIC STYLE!!! The accents of the style come from all other music. IT CAN NOT stand with out other music supporting it. LISTEN CAREFULLY to the "music" and YOU to will be enlightened. Corey E. Cleary

    I'm stupid.

I only just realised yesterday, watching LiT, that the "Moo Cow" condom for Kevin Moore was actually referring to the Moo Cow from "Eve" . . .

    Sigh.
