I finally bought Fate's Warning 'Perfect Symmetry' on Sat for
8.99GBP at Tower Records, to complete my FW collection.
I used to think 'Inside Out' was sombre and depressing but Perfect
Symmetry comes close on the 'last rites' level :)
I've also recently got hold of Anthrax - 'Stomp 442', and
Sepultura - 'Roots'. Both are really outstanding examples of
decent powerful metal. Get 'em in=A8
Can anybody tell me what the new Asia album -'Arena' is like?.
Thanks.
Ashley.

Mac v. PC debate! I hate those!
Even though there is only a trickle of posts on the subject, I can see it
coming. Whole mailing lists have gone straight to the crapper when
members start fighting that battle. Let's not go ther, huh?
Besides, Macs suck (just kidding :) Oww! That thunderbolt hurt.)

hey folks! we've gotten some good submissions already, so don't wait
'till the last minute to submit. here's the scoop:
DREG Records
http://www.kandu.com/dreg/
..and don't forget to check out another Prog band, Facade:
http://www.kandu.com/dreg/facade.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The DREG Progressive Bands of the Internet Compilation Album
Here is the basic information for the DREG Internet Compilation CD
and how to get your band included:
- Submission deadline is April 15.
- Material should be original, copyrighted, and preferably in the
"progressive" style. Since the definition of "progressive" is varied,
don't be afraid to submit even if you're not sure.
- Bands, solo acts and studio projects are all eligible. Most solo
acts submit under a band pseudonym.
- You can submit any number of songs you want, but if it's more than
three (3), be sure to note your top three (3) preferences in order.
In all likelyhood, only one song per band will be used.
- For evaluation, you can send any format (except vinyl...). for the
final product, we will need (in order of preference) either CD-R, DAT
or VERY high quality tape. Final submissions must be "releasable
quality" which can range from hi quality home recordings to studio
masters.
- If you're not sure about the quality of your submission, send it
anyway; you'd be surprised what some fancy mastering can do.
- Submissions are NOT returned. DO NOT SEND YOUR MASTERS FOR
SUBMISSIONS. If your submission is selected and you haven't already
sent your best copy or master, we will then ask you for a master
which WILL be returned if you send us a Self Addressed, Postage Paid
envelope.
- There's no set limit on song time lengths, but the idea is to get
as many bands involved in this as possible, so don't screw yourself
by only submitting a twenty minute song.
- There will be a small, yet-to-be-determined royalty based on units
sold. If your band is selected to be included, you will received a
simple contract which explains the details of all this. Accepted
bands are NOT committed to DREG Records in any way.
- It's a good idea to do a trademark search on your band name. A few of the
band names already submitted sounded familiar...
- Make sure to include the phone # and address of a single contact
person along with your submission.
- Approximate Time frames:
March/April - band selection and notification
April/May - contracts and other details
May/June - mastering, artwork
June/July - duplication
July - release
Send your submissions to:

I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed already...
but...
It seems that many (or perhaps all) of the songs on Awake are somehow
depicted in the cover art of the album (6:00, The Mirror, etc.). I can't
however find an adquate match for EVERY song on the album... this is either
because not all the songs are represented or because I am missing something.
Can someone enlighten me on the subject.

There's the Digital Man's .signature file, and there are many others that
have entered this no-holds-barred contest, but the true Big, Bad, Mo'Fo'
.Signature file that can kick all youse asses is the big-ass, scrolling
for many pages upon pages, Fates Warning .sig that appeared many months
ago, back on the .arastar.com Ytsejam - and was the cause of much flamage.
Remeber that one? The dude had a huge ASCII "Fates Warning" and this
big-ass tower and all the lyrics from "The Ivory Gate of Dreams."

Message-ID: <9603111709.AA29884@kuyper.si.hhs.nl>
LIMITED EDITION COMPACT DISCS
Information and Update, Current to 03/11/96
1. Introduction
Dear Ytsejammers, for those who don't know me (hmm... that's most of you),
my name is Marcel Berkhout and I am the second guy (you all know the first
one) on the Ytsejam list to make bootlegs. I'm from Holland, keep that in
mind if you find any typos :)
Like Mike Bahr I'm not out to scam all of you and make huge amounts of money.
I'm really into bootlegs and this is the perfect way for me to broaden (sp?)
my horizons (wow!)
As you can see I took the liberty of copy-ing Mike Bahr's update-style.
I think it's something you all are familiar with and it's easy to read.
2. What is 'Carpe Diem - LIVE will not always be this way'
This was my 4th Dream Theater concert of the year and probably one of the
most memorable 'cause they played ACOS!!
It was recorded on the 8th of July this summer during an outdoors festival
called 'Bospop' (Please don't ask me why it's called that way). Dream Theater
didn't headline the festival, but judging from the amount of people wearing
DT t-shirts most of them came to see DT :)
A friend of mine recorded the show with his portable DAT-recorder, so the
quality of the recording is great, especially for an outdoor show. Aahh hell
might as well tell you all the truth.... the only negative thing I can think
of is that there are some people (with no vocal ability whatsoever) can be
heard from time to time during the 'easier' and 'slower' songs (LSOAD and
Another Day). I hope this doesn't bother to many people.
Because DT didn't headline the festival they only played for 70 minutes.
The setlist was :
Intro
Under a Glass Moon
Lifting Shadows of a Dream
Voices
A Change of Seasons
Another Day
Pull me Under
[encore]
6:00
The booklet is finished and looks great! 10 FULL color pages with pictures
from the Bospop Festival, you'll be surprised!
3. How can I order a copy of 'Carpe Diem'?
I'm not out to compete with Mike Bahr, so my prices will be exactly the same
as his. I ship orders in the order I received your checks, so those of you
who sent your mail around when ordering began, those will be the first CDs
out the door.
I expect to begin shipping at the end of April/beginning of May.
Feel free to e-mail me to reserve a copy for you, so that you will have a
copy saved for you before you send your order in the mail. A lot of people
mailed me asking for CD #15 or CD #145. When you order your cd let me know
your favorite number, and I'll see what I can do for you.
The pricing for the CD so far is as follows.
Base cost: $ 25.00 US
Postage: $ 3.00 US
----------
Total: $ 28.00 US
Things are pretty simple from here. Send mail including:
-> * Your name, mailing address, and e-mail address <-
-> * The check, cash money, or money order for the amount <-
-> * How many cd's you are ordering. <-
International customers may use whatever means of payment is most convenient
for them, though I stress that sending cash is risky and should not be a
first option, but a backup plan. If you send cash, please use registered mail
and make sure that you can't see the money through the envelope! CHECKS: I
don't know about international payment with checks (US -> Europe, or Japan ->
Europe) but if it's possible, that's ok. In Europe however, there is a system
called 'Eurogiro' which makes it possible to transfer money from your own
account to mine. For more info about this system, please go to your local
post office.
I always recommend the traceable-both-ways Money Order as a preferred form
of payment. So checks are OK; Money orders are Better.
For dutch orders it's simple, e-mail me privately, and I'll send you my
'giro' (???) number to which you can transfer the money.
Please make out checks and money orders to me, Marcel Berkhout
The address is:
Marcel Berkhout 'Carpe Diem'
Assumburg 46
2402 KT Alphen a/d Rijn
The Netherlands
4. The reservations (paid for)
'Carpe Diem - LIVE will not always be this way' orders PAID!
(unpaid reservations not listed)
Nr. Name e-mail address:
001 Master -
002 Marcel Berkhout v932407@si.hhs.nl
003 Harrie Dechering decherin@xs4all.nl
DON't Have a list YET, but I mailed all the people who's money I have
received.
5. Famous Last Words
To conclude my update I would like to thank everyone who reserved a copy. I
hope that all of you actually order a copy :)
If you have any questions about the project, feel free to e-mail me anytime.
Thanks,
Marcel Berkhout

Remember the game I mentioned a few Jams ago, trying to get from a band
to Bill Bruford in six steps? I did it with DT! Here's the rules I imposed
upon myself (otherwise, this may have been impossible! :)
* Two people that were ever in the same band, not necessarily at the same
time, is ok. (So, like, saying that Charlie Dominici and Derek Sherinian
have both been members of the same band is an acceptable jump.)
* Artist-producer relationships are also allowed. (It was the only way I
could get it!)
So, can you fill in the blanks?
1) Dream Theater 2) _________________ 3)__________________ 4)__________
5) _____________ 6) _________________ featuring Bill Bruford
Hint: None of the blanks, except #6, would be considered prog.

no flames here, just a few thoughts (uh oh:) i'd kinda like to see DT
do some hard stuff for one track, just totally take a different turn,
Have Jon grab that 7 stringer and run it through a death metal pedal
and straight into an amp, cut the keyboards, and have some dude scream
over everything :) One thing that caught my attention (this doesnt
mean i dont like it, i'm just stating this) was that James will NEVER
do anything un-melodic with his voice. just listen do the big medley
on ACoS, on Rhapsody I feel he needed to get a little more grit on his
voice, just my opinion though... anyone else?

couple of notes/questions-
- just in case you havent heard, metallica shaved their heads :)
- hey isnt Korn supposed to play? heheh, if they do i'll definately
go, i'm interested in seeing what theyre like on stage!
- does anyone know who else is playing? I'd like to know what else

sounds cool to me, but what quote? gotta have something totally far
out, not one of the average cliche's... maybe "Struggle to ease the
pain, struggle to find the sane" or somethin' cool, but just kinda
stuck in one of the verses...
ok thats all i gotz
