Hi everyone. We are trying to put together the final list of
people interested in doing the tribute big band. If there is anyone out
there who is not on Devon's list, please email me personaly with your
email and instrument. When this list is complete in the next couple of
days we will then decide on groups and songs. I want to establish who
all is involved before we get any further though. So, if we don't know
about you, fill me in within the next couple of days and we will get the
    ball rolling.

            Thanks!

ok heres my contribution to this topic: I just personally dont like
the idea of a video too much unless its something REALLY incredible...
ya' see- whenever i watch a video for a song from then on whenever i
hear that song i think of whats happening in the video, not my mind...
we all have our own pictures and interpretations for the song, which is
what makes it so cool... november rain was a good video, but i used to
think of something else when i heard the song... not anymore... acos
is such a legend i think the more we mess with it possible the more
we're killing it... just my thoughts...

I will definitely agree - I preferred WGCC by a long shot over any of the
other stations when I was living in Rochester. There was a show on a
weekend night called Radio Piracy, later Metal Modulation, that would play
nothing but pure METAL; there was even the occasional Dream Theater thrown
in, usually "PMU" from LATM. I'm really sorry to hear they've gone
alternative. While I happen to like some alternative music, there are
already enough stations playing it - when I was last in town, in June, the
station behind WCMF, Rock-It (I forgot the call numbers) was totally
alternative. Variety is the spice of life, donchaknow. (They obviously don't.)

I don't even listen to the radio here at all, except for my alarm clock, and
I'm not coherent enough in the morning to care what's on. <G> Our college
station is pretty worthless at the moment as well, seeing as most people
    can't even get the signal *on campus*! :}

Man, I can't wait till this one comes out. I have two albums that
Reinert played on ("Human" by Death and "Focus" by Cynic) and judging by
the direction that Reinert was heading in on the Cynic CD, he should be
ready to just tear shit up on the drums in this CD. That dude is one of the
smoothest-sounding and precise drummers I've ever heard. Couple that
with his raw speed and polyrhythmic abilities and you've got a master!!!
    All-instrumental, yessssss!
    This CD should kick ass!!!!

Wow!!! Portnoy and Reinert on the same CD?!?!?!?!?

Sorry for the lack of DTC, all, but the last time I got this excited
about a release was ACoS, and the only people who I know would even give a
shit about this kind of music are right here on this list.

Hey there, everyone. Got a few things

!) Ive seen a bunch of talk about DT doing an ACoS video. Well, I just
got finished watching Braveheart for the second time and I'm currently
crying like a baby. I have no idea why, but I'm feeling like my entire
family just died. Strange, hhuh? Anyway, Braveheart captures a whole
theme of Carpe Diem, basically the theme of ACoS. If they did a video,
they could grab some ideas from that film. definately gove some emotions
    to it all.

    OK...moving on...

@) I'm kinda slow on the horse because I never thought of it till last
week, but Ive seen talk of it before.

Regarding any of the DT shows this past X-mas, does anyone have good
copies of the show to dub for trade, cash, favours? Let me know, please!

    About the Rush tribute CD...

    >What other opinions do y'all have out there in Ytse-land? And who else

I'd love to see DT do Xanadu, Jacob's Ladder, or Cygnus X-1 AND Cygnus X-1
Book II: Hemispheres back-to-back, that would be absolutely incredible
and a new exercise in self-indulgence!

    >I truely believe that Dream Theater will never get that much air play...

MTV has played long videos by Michael Jackson, "Smooth Criminal", and the
long version of Metallica's "Unforgiven". They've also played "Pull Me
Under", "Take The Time", and "Lie", but not anymore since there is no hard
rock/heavy metal program. I do see your point however.

I would probably be against this. The point of the limited CD is to give
thanks to those people who've supported Mike the whole time, or helped
him in his projects. I would have no problem with setting up a
    high-quality tape tree, though.

    >Subject: Acos Video
    >...and in the end having the father sitting with his son watching a

I don't know about the rest of you, but Forrest Gump immediately came to
mind: towards the end of the movie, the scenes with Forrest and his son.

    >...and i still think the sound is a Tie Fighter (heeh) im watching too

How about instead of a plane crash, there is a TIE Fighter crash?
There's nothing wrong with watching too much Star Wars, you have to
get ready for the next trilogy!

    >From what I heard, the 'Jammers were the ones who encouraged the official

    >twice at DT and their record company, etc to fund it.

I don't think the record company would finance a video for a twenty-three
minute song that is on an EP with covers. The idea for a home video of the
"Uncovered" show was tossed about before, but nothing ever materialized.
I don't think any record company would finance such a project unless the
artist was of superstar status. I'm not saying DT aren't "superstars",
to us they are, but to their record company and sales-wise, they still a
have a ways to go. Your insight serves you well. Bury your feelings
deep down, Stephen. They do you credit. But they could be made to serve
    the Emperor.

    >there was talk about who would be touring with megadeth for the next
    >cd, I believe someone mentioned DT..come to think of it, that would be a
    >very cool show. Dream Theater and Megadeth on tour together. Any thoughts?

No! I can't stand the group of wankers known as Megadeth. I highly doubt I
would go (I'd wait for DT to headline), and even if I did go, I'd leave
as soon as DT was done and the house lights came back on. Before all
you 'Deth fans flame me, remember, this is my opinion.

    >acos is such a legend i think the more we mess with it possible the more

I agree with you, Rip, and I don't think it will ever see the light of
    day, as I've stated before.

Sorry to post this almost completely non-DT related thing, but I just wanted
to share my experience so others wouldn't suffer.

There is a new CD club out there called CD Head Quarters, or CD HQ. Their
opening deal sounded good, so I sent in a card from a magazine I picked up
somewhere. That was January 3. Now it's March 22, and after 3 long distance
calls to Indiana, I finally have a resolution. They claim they sent out the
package twice, but neither has reached my house. They also claimed that the
problem dealt with my address, which I know was correct because I checked it
several times. Bottom line: they fucked up (sorry). So how did they resolve the
problem? They just terminated the account, and told me if I move to a NEW
ADDRESS, that I could try to join again!

In contrast, in mid February I re-upped with Columbia House (end result: 14
CDs for about $15 incl. S&H). When I went home for spring break the first
week of March, there they were. No problem.

So, am I saying don't join CD HQ? No. I just wanted to let people know how
they treated me, so they wouldn't end up in the same situation.

For the record, they did have _Awake_ in their magazine ad (in a section called
"Music to be Pierced By"), so there is the DT content!

Sorry about the space. I'll shut up now.
