hello, jammers. It's that annoying pain in the ass blind guy again. Haven't
had much to say lately, but I need some favors from you all. If anybody has
any information on progressive rock bands with CDs out that I can get a copy
of for my radio show, please please put them in touch with me. This includes
independent bands as well as labels. I already have Magna Carta. I already
have Facade and Superior's information. What else can you guys give me.
Remember, if you are talking to non-jammers, mantion radio airplay. If you
are in a prog rock band, I want to speak to you. Email me at
damon@cafebbs.com or s0067977@hawkmail.monmouth.edu. Independent bands or
labels with prog rock bands. An example would be Happy Family or Magellan.
Please Please help me out, guys. You've been great so far, keep it coming.

so it ihas finally arrived (more or less). spring break is here in da house
funky fresh for the boyz at binghamton.

so i figure i'd send this off cause tomorrow night, i'll so crocked it won't
    even matter to me.

some things i wanted to react to:

to the guy (i forget who) who busted my chops for the "roll the bones" thing
i used in my discussion of the pathetic-ness of the hall of fame. ok, ok,
maybe i shouldn't have gone that far. i like rush too. i actually kinda dig
"bones" too, even. what i guess i was trying to say in my whole thing was
that i figure that the voting committee would just look at something really
cheesy by a band (i didn't want to imply that rush or "bones" is cheesy-
that's your own opinion) and make that the "deciding factor" in getting in.
but of course, i was also kindly reminded that bands don't get in on the
basis of one album. i knda thought that, too. i guess i was wasn't getting my
point across fast enough. alas. no harm intended.

someone mentioned thought industry (dr. teeth, i believe).and yes!! they are
so brain-hurting, i wouldn't know where to begin. the sepultura reference was
cool, too. i also picked up "roots" and really dug it. being that i'm also
half-colombian, it's kinda cool to see a band use ethnic influences that are
somewhat similar to mine (i know, i know, they're brazilian, but you get my
    drift).

i have a proposal for you, and i hope i hear results, and good ones
preferably when i return in a week or so.

to all you kevin moore-ophiles who've been checking out the webpage (or not),
i think it would be really awesome if he made available original copies of
all his other demos (or most of them). i don't know about you, but i am kinda
wary of my ratty tape copy of the stuff, and i'd much rather appreciate to
have them in their original forms (not that the guy who dubed them for me was
miserable in any way, but i always prefer originals to the imitation- that's
why i prefer ky jelly over the leading brand). so how about it?

the dt tribute thing. it sounds so ooooooh la la la. umm, i was wondering if
i still have a band to play these with. you know, the digital man (who will
soon be receiving 220 minutes of audio-ecstasy), umm, the man they call
"mojo", mr. "i don't know where my clothes are in a foreign land but i'm
getting married anyway so fuck you" gandalf, and of course, itz"y little
spider ran up the water whatever."

so there. that's my ranting and raving for now. enjoy the break, and if you
have one too, peace out. if not, suffer and love it! hahahaha!

    love and kisses,
david the funky fresh in da house wild kobayashi

kobayashi: umm, professor, i have a question. before germany was reunited,
what was this chord called- the west german sixth chord, or the east german
    sixth chord?

i love german chords, and italian and oooh la laaaa french chords.

and crack too. peace out, niggas. check y'all later.

Someone asked in former Jams is Rush was the most successful group ever,
as far as total albums sold. I'm afraid not. They are about 6th or 7th on
the list. Here's who is beating them...

    1. The Beatles
    2. Elvis
    3. Michael Jackson
    4. Pink Floyd
5-8. Some arrangement of Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin.

The 5-8 spots were so close in Guinness that they could be
changing, but the top four weren't even nearly in danger of slipping.

To those who go "Metallica??" remember that the Black album sold
6 million in the USA and more than double that overseas. I know that none
of those four will make #4 anytime soon because Floyd's "Dark Side of the
Moon" alone has sold more records than the _bands_ below them on the list
    have sold _total_.

Dream Theater's at around 463 and counting... :) We can hope.

A quick notice on CDs for those who'll be getting them:

Dream Theater "Antiquities" is finally set to arrive UPS tomorrow
afternoon. Shippings will begin that night; I expect to have 80 copies
out per week minimum. All copies of Antiquities will include additional
liner notes sized so that they can fit into the CD jewel case. The cover
was made on a "parchment-like" paper instead of a glossy paper, I hope
the effect turns out as stunning and appropriate as the proofs looked
when I chose it a month ago.

Dream Theater "When Dream And Today Unite" second shipment (#501-1000)
should be here by month's end and shipping will start immediately when it
    arrives.

Dream Theater "Scenes From A Memory" will be, God willing, here by the
first week of May. I've been shooting for an April 20th or so release
date, but those printing plants are damned backlogged. Even though I'll
press all the CDs on schedule, the liner printing and CD painting keeps
    the release dates delayed.

Rush "CRITICAL MASS" - ORDERING BEGINS.... NOW! (bang!) Here are some of
    the gritty details.

-It will be a 2-CD set, most probably arriving as two separate
discs (part 1 and part 2) that will comprise the COMPLETE SHOW.
-Feel free to e-mail me at durnik@indirect.com for a current update
             which includes the tracklisting.
-It will cost $50 US for the full package. Postage for international
orders is the same as stated in my updates.
-It will be a print run of 1000 at this point. This is the first time
I'll say that I may eventually reprint it. However I don't see that
happening. I'm a collector first and foremost and things that grow
valuable over time appeal to me personally. It will likely be hand
numbered like previous releases. Because 1000 are being made,
anyone who's ordered ANY CD from me at any time in the past has an
automatic reservation; you can just send the order in. If you choose
not to buy Critical Mass, that's OK... don't worry about it.
-My address, for all orders, is:
                    Mike Bahr - Critical Mass
                    3175 N. Price Rd. #1066
                    Chandler, AZ 85224

There is no limit to the number of CM CDs you can order. Wait
till you hear this. This is the DEFINITIVE Rush bootleg. The tentative
(but damned likely) release date: Memorial Day.

I've already begun receiving the checks for Marcel Berkhout's
CARPE DIEM CD from USA buyers. I plan on letting them pile up, unopened,
until Marcel gives me the word. Then, I will cash them all and write out
a gigantic international money order for him, and send it. To all those
wondering if his CD is worth getting, IT IS. I wouldn't miss it. I've
heard the show from DAT and it's clear. Net collectibles like this come
along once in a lifetime... I plan on getting every one. In fact, hmm...
Trey and Jason, can you drop me an e-mail? I was going to order some
T-shirts and it slipped my mind.

    Take care all!

Quick question: what exactly is a trigger? I've heard of them being used
on drum kits and keyboard setups.

Also, IMO, the bass drums on Awake are far inferior to those on I&W with
respect to recording quality. Awake's are muddy and boomy when played on a
system with substantial bass while those on I&W are tight and crisp. After
designing this particular system I listened to Awake and thought I'd built
the woofer cabinets wrong. But upon hearing other music, including I&W, the
problem emerged as the recording on Awake. Bummer...

    Message-ID: <199603280616.WAA15571@ichips.intel.com>

Mr. Big is a living testament to the fact that talent isn't everything,
and your instrumental skills don't mean squat if you're not a good
songwriter. Don't get me wrong, I have Mr. Big's first three albums
and have seen them live twice; Billy Sheehan truly is one of the best
bassists out there, and Paul Gilbert is absolutely phenominal (I'm
actually surprised I don't hear more about him from all you guitar
players out there). The vocalist is really good, too.

But sadly, they couldn't write a decent song to save their lives.
At least this is my impression from their previous works. With the
exception of Addicted to that Rush and a couple catchy tunes on
Lean Into It, the songs they write just seem so...bland. They're
just a perfect example of how much potential a group of four people
can have, and yet continually deliver mediocrity.

Of course, there are most certainly people who disagree with me,
and I do apologize if I've offended their fandom, this is just
IMHO, after all. I'm just using Mr. Big as an example of how
important I believe songwriting to be to the quality of a band.
    In short, chops ain't everything.

To tie this into Dream Theater (gasp!), I was actually drawn to the
band first by their songwriting; I loved how they threw away the
conventional structure of pop and rock songs I'd grown accustomed
to, and made each verse of some songs have different melodies, or
threw out the chorus completely from other songs (of course, this
also contributed to my semi-dissapointment with Awake, because so
many songs had this structure return. But that's another story).
Once their songwriting drew me in and made me pay close attention
to the songs, I started seeing how incredible their musicianship
was, and how great they truly are. So DT is a perfect example of
how much potential a group of five people can have, and yet surpass
    that potential time and again.

Differing opinions welcome, flames promtly ignored.

    Jim

Ive only got 4 more Ytse jam shirts left!!!!! $18 including shippiong and hadling!!! Let me know!!!!

If your wondering, what they look like, they are totally different than Jason Giles made so if you have one of those you can still get one of these... They have a huge Majesty symbol on the back with DT's logo above it. On the front, "ytsejam" is centered across the chest in big letters in a courrier new font. Below it is "Dream Theater's Internet Mailing List" and below that is the new address both in smaller letters and a different font that "ytsejam".

I promise you will be very happy with the shirts. The design on the front is VERY "eye catching" and I when ever I go into a store or the mall or at school or anywhere with people there, Hundreds of eyes are looking at my shirt!!! It just makes people look. I have because of this shirt told Dozens of peope about DT just cause they asked about my shirt!!!!! Its killer!!

Firstly, the idea is not to borrow your personal CDs to anyone, but to give a list of your disks to the librarian, who joins it with the lists of others. After that you are open for others to ask you to dub some CD of yours for them and to get something from them in turn. As the time passes, the list will grow and grow... Secondly, if you join the library, you only submit the CDs you feel you can or want to dub for other people. No one is asking you to dub your own bands CDs or demos or some ultra rare boots for free. Next, no the library WILL NOT accept dubbing requests of Mike Bahr's CDs if they still are commercially available. Same goes for Tim Lodges CDs and the forthcoming Marcel Berkhout's Carpe Diem project and the re-releases of SubConscious and every such project hereafter. Any questions, comments, remarks? Email me. Jeff Cline noted that Mr Big got a reputation for being soft, which is true, hell i laugh my ass off whenver i see that commercial and when Mr Big comes on that girl says "For sensitive rockers..." :) but that they also can really get down and jam. Damn strait. And you havent even seen the half of it from just Mr. Big's stuff. I've got Paul's 3rd instructional video and its gotta be the best i've ever seen, he's incredible, i watched it billions of times! The stuff he does blows alot of guitarring i've seen outta the water. I also believe he was a teacher at GIT for a while. He's definately one of my fav's, because you'll also notice he's very calm in front of the camera. Just check out George Lynch's video, hes a great guitar player, but he doesnt seem to get into it on vid. that much, Paul just gets right in there, its easy to follow, like he's just right there explaining everything, and theres clips in between of just fun stuff, bravo Paul!

one other note, i just dug out my old Van Halen "Live w/o a Net" video tonight and those guys really woke me up again. I'd forgotten what i was missing from them! seriously- if ya got it, dig it out, it'll really shock you, i'd forgotten what an incredibly talented guitarist Eddie is over the past little while and had begun to slip away. He plays with an incredible smoothness that i've never seen anyone be able to do.

and i must say the 80s really kicked some ass, even though i was young throughout them, i grew up on bands like Def Leppard and Ozzy and even Motley Crue :) But even though the 80s popularity has died out the bands *are* still around and their stuff now will probably impress you. Motley Crue is a pretty good example having the title of one of the ultimate glam rock bands of all times, but they put out an album back in 94 i think, with a new vocalist John Corabi i think it was, and it was entirely different. You hear alot of people say "Yeah i was into that stuff but i've matured out of it, i think my crue days are through" but the bands have done the same thing! Theyre doing great work and even though i've used Crue as my example, theres TONS of bands out there in just the same situation... give it some thought.

'sall i got for now ~Rip

oh yeah i figure i need some more DT content so here it is- boy i sure do like that band Dream Theater
