yeah i got the same problems... i've been growing mine about as long
and theres always somebody who disagrees with long hair on males.
Actually you should try saying that classical composers had their hair
long and that long hair on guys has been around for ages. even Yanni
has long hair if theyre into that.

i heard P&G broke up now, and that zakk's gonna do another kinda solo

together, they've done it before on stage, i think an album would be
    interesting.

oh yeah- any saigon kick fans out there? they did a new album a
little back i was wondering if anyone heard it and what they thought, i

impressed, not one of my fav.s but definately cool.

Now, this is my second post to the Jam this month, so don't let me
    come across as self-indulgent.

I got to see Satch play at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas on the 20th. You
are right, Joe is a madman...and one HELL of a guitarist. My
girlfriend actually thinks that Joe is cute without hair. His entire
band is SOOOO tight! Stu really held back for most of the first part
of the concert...but when he got his chance to solo....Whew!!!
He didn't do the Peanuts theme in Dallas...rather he played the best
rendition of the Star Spangled Banner I've ever heard (of course, that
is the one song that Hendrix performed that I never cared for much).

I forgot my earplugs for the concert...and I ended up on the front row
about 10 feet from Joe's parachute pants and about 3 feet from the
left PA stack. My ears felt like they were going to bleed....and it
    was worth it!

BTW...I wore one of the Jason "T-Stretch" Allen ytsejam t-shirts to
the concert and about 5 people stopped me so that they could read it
and give me a big thumbs up!

    Keep on 'jamming!

P.S....thanks Bafu, for the ER script...I rolled on the floor reading
    it!

    Ben,

I know he plays the By Demons Be Driven DRUM PART! I was just talking about
the guitar and bass riff FROM THAT SONG that he played along with...you
probably just read my post wrong. The sample he played with was a drum
trigger. And as far as the Metropolis and Learning to Live sequences
    go...they are 5:05-5:16 and 5:30-6:26 respectively...although I must correct
myself on what they are...Metropolis is a double part between hi-hat and
timbale...whereas in Learning To Live, there is a double track with toms
(him on the kit) and a cylindrical shaker which I can't remember the name of
at this moment. Anyways...the drumming is still cool as hell!

No no no. Just like everything else that is cool and "in," Scott Ian of
Anthrax started this trend and receives no credit for it. The whole

Hmm.. this is just an observation, but I'm pretty sure I own 4 White
Lion albums (not counting the greatest hits).

One hit wonders? I would say there are probably more White Lion albums
out there than DT albums. White Lion albums are infinitely easier to
find than DT ones. And at the time they were pretty big, with posters,
reviews in mags, etc... they are also one of the bands whose music has
survived the times: given a choice between Poison or White Lion I'd pull
out the White Lion albums any day.

More non-DTC: Picked up the new Paradise Lost album last night
(Draconian Times). Pretty cool stuff so far I have to admit. My best
description of them would be very similar to Type-O Negative except maybe
with a bit better songwriting, little less industrial, more power
metallish. Haven't listened to it more than about twice through, but my
initial impression is it's pretty good stuff.

    Hey people-

I have some quick questions for my fellow DT nuts. What do you think is
the highest note that LaBrie hits in Awake? I say "Innocence Faded" when
he says "Not intending to end"
Secondly, what exactly makes a song "Progressive?" I've heard at times
someone say something like "Megadeth has a prog song" What exactly does
    this mean?
Just to throw my 2 cents in on the bass issue. Even though I drum and
don't play bass, Ellefson of Megadeth has never impressed me on any of
the albums. Myung impresses me. But I am surprised that no Death fans
have spoken up about Steve DiGiorgio. If any of you bassists or whatever
want to be truly blown away by bass-work, pick up one of Death's old
    albums, particularly "Individual Thought Patterns"

P.S. I see Barney Greenway of Napalm Death in the special thanks a lot.
Any jammers like 'em? I am a HUGE fan, although I don't think that they
    are progressive.

P.P.S. Sorry about starting the White Lion thing.

P.P.P.S. Can someone tell me how to respond to single messages? Sorry I
    am relatively new here.

    >By the way.....bow down to the newest Ytse-Quote (tm) champion. :-)

Ben, I hate to split hairs with you, but we really can't call a winner...
A.) I admit you won last night:
a.) I had a five minute lag on that last Q, and got a ping timeout,
             but:
b.) I didn't know the answer anyway, so congrats.
B.) I still have more cumulative points than you, however:
a.) There were 18 Qs on Thurs., and only 5 last night,
b.) I have played twice, you only once,
c.) There is no real organization.... whoever's there plays...

So basically, I won fair and square Thurs, Ben did so on Fri. There is
no overall champion. Now, on to other stuff...

About the psychiatrist in the Erotomania article posted in the last

    hi all!
how about doing my anamgram,Bafu? I'm curious!! As to the younger generation
here-these fellas are very intelligent for their ages-it's good to see. We
see alot of illiterite and ill-mannered teens, so it's really refreshing to
be able to know that there are a few out there that aren't.:)

adventures in cabdriving: Just an update to let y'all know that I'm feeling
much better. If you did't know,I was involved in a rearender about a week &
a 1/2 ago. Didn't damage the car, or me, too much. Car's fixed, took about
1/2 an hour, I'm gonna take a bit longer for the muscles to relax-but
    getting better.
got my driver back-maybe I'll actually get a real night off now!! Right now,
    it's 6 days a week,on call the seventh.UGH!!

anyhow, I think the posts are getting better!! Bafu-as usual, yours are great!!
    actually, they're all great!!

    uh-oh, I'm awake today-don't know whats gonna happen now-I usually don't
wake up until later!!could be dangerous!!

A good turn done last nite: Popped Awake into my friends player last
    nite-she hadn't heard it-& loved it!!YESSSS!! I think I just converted someone!!

anyhow, gotta go. catch you all later!

I think that when most of us say "drums" we think of drumset (snare, bass
drum, toms etc.) not percussion. Yes there are tuned percussion
instruments (timpani, marimba) but the 'tuning' of a drumset doesn't
directly affect what key you can play in. Timpani and steel drums
generally have some sustain, drumset drums usually don't

Play a VERY short note on a piano or a guitar and tell me if you can recognize
it. I can. I don't need time to hear it.

The physics classes I've taken have finally panned out! Sorry man, but that's
not quite right. Amplitude is independent of frequency. Meaning, the harder
you hit a drum, a tuning fork, a guitar string or anything else, the louder
it's going to be, but it's still going to give you the same pitch. It's just
going to be louder. Whack a tuning fork hard and you get whatever pitch it is.
Just tap it and it's the same pitch, just a lot softer. The same holds true
    for a drum head.

    -

And on another note, about that chain letter thing... If you've considered
trying it, ponder this. 2 years ago, I got that exact same type of letter.
For a while I thought about doing it, but then I started hearing people's
reaction to it and decided to back out. The fact is, if these things worked
the way that guy said it would, then over 2 years, exponentially, the letters
would be completely flooding the net by now. Every other letter you receive
would be a chain letter. Newsgroups would only have chain letters in them.
Guess what? That hasn't happened! Why? Because people who post these things
get tracked down and have their accounts removed. Also, not everyone who gets
these letters responds to them. Add it all up and you'll probably get three
bucks back, while finding your e-mail account has been relinquished. Still
sound fun? Work - give it a try. It gets me the money I need. =)

    > And Mr. Vai, did you use the Anagram Generator at infobahn.com ("Main
    > Sanitary Nag"), or did you actually sit around making them up yourself?

Neat comment. Ben posted anagrams "courtesy of Main Sanitary Nag," which I
translated as either "Insanity Anagram" or "Anagram Insanity." I thought
that was pretty cool. Then Chris Merlo e-mailed me yesterday with the
address at which I could view the pictures that I mailed him. I checked
'em out, and decided to explore his page while I was there.

Now what did I stumble across, but an Anagram Generator. Strangely enough,
it was called "Main Sanitary Nag," which translated itself as "Anagram
Insanity." Fancy that. Life's little coincidences, I tell ya...

Yes I made up those anagrams myself, Scotcher. Heck, I tried "David The
Magical Kobayashi" on that website and it came up with ZERO. Here I am
with about forty possibilities on my own, several of which I posted.

So are you telling me that everyone gets their anagrams from this website?
You made me sit here and grind anagrams out of my brain, when there was a
machine that could do it for me? Is this site where Ben Laussade gets all
his anagrams? Geez, Ben, why don't you just make a drum track with a
sequencer and tell everyone it's you playing? ;)

    LOL!

Like when you're on a rollercoaster and you're trying to harmonize with
the person screaming behind you, then they change the pitch... Makes you
wanna fling their ass off at the top of the next big hill... Not that I'm
    violent like Brian or anything...

Most definitely not. The very first vocal line, where someone screams "TRANSFORMEEEEEEERS!!" is way too strong to be Mike Tramp. The sound overall was way too powerful (like big keys, big electronic crunchiness) to be White Lion. Sounded more like Geoff Tate singing over ZZ Top. :)

"Transformers! More than meets the eye! Autobots wage their battles to destroy the evil forces of... THE DECEPTICONS!! Transformers, robots in disguise!!"

Yeah, me2. Unfortunately he was compared to Eddie Van Halen an awful lot for that. As if Eddie or anyone short of Alan Holdsworth himself could even come close to playing as fluidly as Vito Fuckin' Bratta. He was doing that low-e-string-whinnying-horse-harmonic stuff long b4 Zakk Wylde made it excruciatingly popular with "No More Tears."
