Great choice. Peter Collins is a pretty big name. He did the last
Bon Jovi album too. He's got a great ear.

    Hiya Jammers,
The argument about finger style is a not one of speed dudes. I
play with 2 fingers, 3 fingers or a pick depending upon sound,
beat, tempo, timing etc. Personally I feel that each style has its
advantages and disadvantages, and players shouldn't restrict
themselves to just one. (I'd luv to hear JM slap in a few places).

    This from Learning to Live:
"Aye human, need is sent voice...."
    "I hear an innocent voice..."
    This from Innocence Faded:

    "Condescending.....Not intending to end."
    This from Sacrred:
"My soul exposed, it calms me to know vat of waaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrts."
"My soul exposed, it calms me to know that I won't."
"Here for me there for me red underwear for me..."

This from Lifting Shadows off a Dream:

Unfortunately, I'm a busy guy to and I've run out of time to personally email everyone
with questions about levels (i have more out there than just DT.WAD), but I will
eventually send you a personal email on it. You'll find what you need to know at that
site though...I wish I'd had the page up and running when the level came out, since I
ended up manually emailing over 200 copies of the level! Hey, it's all for the love of

Hi all, this is my first post in more than a year, so here goes. To all IRC
jammers: I have started putting together a web page for all of you. If you
want to be included, send me a picture, and what you want me to say about
you. If you don't want to be included, email me as well. I don't actually
want a real picture, so if they are pre-scanned, that would be very cool. I
already have pictures of Paul (Pellaz) DaBigman, D-Man, Gabbo, rockin, and
Ben Laussade. I can get pictures of Rachel (wisha) and Jeff Chew from web
pages, but if these aren't what you want, feel free to send me your new
pics. I would really really like pictures of Heath and Damon, but that's
probably not gonna happen. So, if any IRC jammer wants to be a part of my
new web page, then just mail me your pic and a description. That is all.
Dream Theater Content: I would die for Dream Theater, and if anyone spells
it Theatre, they'll be hearing from Bob Dole's Wooden Arm (tm).

I've been thinking about the sparse popularity of DT (a depressing
subject) and the immense popularity of (ack) Alternative music. Being in
Toronto, there isn't a big support for DT, (at least not that I know of,
correct me if I'm wrong), yet bands like Oasis and Green Day have droves of
fans. It seems to me that the simpler the band while still trying to keep
some slight vestige of a tune, the more popular. Now as we all know DT isn't
exactly what you would call simple. Whenever I play it for my friends, they
    think it's utter crap.

After hearing so much of it, I'm actually starting to like
one or two GD songs (I liked White Lion, too). Regarding your
other point, there's a lot of stuff that I love now that, while
I didn't think it was crap, I refused to take the time to listen
to a few years ago. I remember not being able to get past
"Revolution Calling" when I first heard it years back. On the
2 hour drive back from the mountains today, I had the two recent
Death albums and Cynic's _Focus_ in the playre (alt. spelling).
I fail to understand how anyone could like Oasis though.

Whoah. Someone else remembers this song.

They might've stolen it from me. I used to say this all
the time when I was younger (early 80s). After Wayne's
World came out, I told this to a friend of mine who used
to ridicule me about it. Somehow, I'd found an old
short fiction story that I did that had one of the
characters saying "...not" in that context (slightly
different context than in WW, but the concept was the
same). Sometimes, I make him apologize to me to this day
for doubting my veracity. Perhaps, my subconscious (DTC)
            stole it from old SNL...

I don't know if this topic has ever been brought up b4... but does anybody
any idea of what TOWHTSTS is about? My interpretation is that it's this guy
who goes to see his girl, and he finds her doing da nasty w/ another guy...
however the chorus doesn't seem to fit anywhere in this interpretation so
    I'm most probably wrong...

Wasn't the former title to this song "The Death of Spock"?
If it is, I don't see the relation. I'll reread the lyrics
            when I get home.

Hey, Run/DMC isn't a progressive band. Stop posting about them. Thank you.

Not to be confused with the one Damon meant:

"Born to rock around the CLOCK You can't say I'm NOT And in case you FORGOT I'm the kiiiiiiing...OF ROCK!!"

Both of them with the words "King Of Rock" in the opening prose. How confusing.

Whoahwhoahwhoah, I left out an important part on the end of my sentence there. I did mean what you mentioned, something like a strictly acoustic player suddenly being handed an Ibanez set up for Satch's playing, delicate tremolo and all, strung with something like .009's.

I wouldn't expect anyone who played only acoustic, where the minimum string-gauge is around .012's, to be able to play any electric as usual (that means without changing their style), strung with .009's, without breaking something...LIKE A STRING. (Maybe Michael Hedges switches to .008's when I'm not looking.) I didn't mean that acoustic players can't be as fluid as electric players.

(I have a friend who strings his acoustic with .014's. I have a liking problem with that practice. He played my Ironbird once, with .009's strung 0J8u\qz-fx\Tb8:8cVon, and promptly snapped the A after about five minutes 6with his furiously violent picking and bending.)

    > And your "bleah!" reference? I take it you don't like acoustics. > Granted, they usually don't sound good with distortion, but that's > really not what they're for anyway.

No, I didn't mean an acoustic played with distortion. I've never heard an electric-acoustic with a distortion channel on. I meant that I simply dislike playing the acoustic guitar. One of the reasons I don't tell people what instrument I play is that everyone confuses acoustics with electrics and thinks they're the same, so they hand me their acoustic and ask me to play. (I can do a mean "Holehearted" if the barrel is far enough down my throat, but otherwise I don't play the acoustic guitar.) Everyone has an acoustic. Except me. And everyone who has an acoustic, which is everyone except me, seems to want to hear acoustic guitar music all the time. Hence they ask every musician in the room to play something, even the strictly electric-guitar players. Strange how no one ever happens to have an electric guitar laying around.

"Here, this is my Charvelle. Let me hear you shred."

    > Well, the fundamentals are really the same between acoustic and > electric. If you know how to play one, then you know how to play the > other.

Heh, yes my skill in hand-tandem is still there. I can pick with one hand and fret with the other simultaneously. And that's about it. Knowing a classical piece on an acoustic doesn't always translate well to something plugged into a BOSS HM-2, and knowing how to play "Take The Time" on your JPM-100 doesn't mean you can make the piece sound good with an acoustic strung with .013's.

    > Even though they might feel different the skills for playing each is the > same.

I can't agree. In fact, I disagree. Using half of your strength is more a skill than using all of your strength. Try playing your favorite licks at half speed, or just try slowing them down. Slow arpeggios aren't all that easy to do smoothly if all you've ever done is lightning-fast arpeggios.

    > However, a typing keyboard and a synth keyboard require different skills > for their use.

That was a joke about how I view people lumping acoustic guitars with electric guitars. They both have necks and strings, but you might as well assume that all electric-guitar players can also play the cello and violin with amazing dexterity and precision.

That was a joke about how I view people lumping acoustic guitars with electric guitars. "They're both guitars, right? So then they're both the same." WRONG! They both have necks and strings, and that's where the similarities involving playing the two end. My ability on the electric guitar carries over to the acoustic about as much as a synth player's skills automatically transfer over to a harpsichord.
