Hi everyone,
With all this talk about great guitar players, I have to mention one
that I don't think anybody has brought up:
JASON BECKER
He's amazing, or at least he was :(, now he's fighting a new battle with ALS.
Check out his solo albums "Perpetual Burn" and the latest release
"Perspective". Perspective requires an open mind, it's not necessarily a
"guitar album."
He also does some amazing stuff with Marty Friedman in the band
Cacophony (I know none of this is new to some of you). All of the earlier
stuff is really self-indulgent (our new buzz word), but it's fun and
mind-boggling to say the least.
Bye,
Scott Daugherty

But Paul's bass lines were rippin'. Nothing beats those fills in 'Paperback

but melodically speaking they were so...so...hummamble.

CAT FIGHT! :) I agree, she totally smokes. Although she reminds me
SSSOOOOOO MUCH of Steve Vai. I've been practicing that 8-finger tapping

I've wanted that CD ever since I heard it came out. Have you heard of the
new CD he's coming up w/? It's like one really long song w/ a bunch of
famous guitarist doing things they don't usually do (i.e. Yngwie playing
blues). THat should be interesting.

Did you ever hear 'The Guitars that Rule the World'? IMO Reb's was the best
song on that CD. Paul Gilbert also came up w/ a pretty cool ditty.

I actually bought that CD a while ago... still letting it grow on me though.
I was expecting something a bit heavier (as in crunchy guitar) , so it took
me while to really listen to it. I was actually listening to it while I
read this... SPOOK-AYYY!
One thing though..."But you know that love can be as hard as algebra" huh?

This is kind of interesting, and entirely useless: Here in the USA, where
we mangle good English at every chance, it seems that the word 'theatre'
refers to more `legitimate' (i.e. live) acting, and 'theater' refers to
movie places. This would make sense, since DT got their name from a movie
theater, not a theatre. Now, in the REST of the English speaking world,
'theatre' may just be a blanket term for every kind of theater, movie or
otherwise. I work, for example, in the Connecticut Repertory Theatre. But,
if I wanna go see a movie, I go to the Showcase movie theater. Neat, eh?
And since you'll all be getting this Jam at about 3 in the morning, it
should be interesting to read. =+)

Well, IMHO, to pass up "The Warning" and "Rage For Order" is a huge mistake. I
have listened to QR since the EP came out and it has been fascinating to see the
band evolve with each release. These are two of my favorite releases (alright,
Mindcrime is 'the' favorite', though). There are some really great songs on
these disks! I do agree, however, that Mindcrime is the best starting point for
someone that has never listened to QR.
Listen for yourself with an open mind.

P.S. Hey Itchy, What Marillion disk should I buy first? I've never heard any
of their music before (continuing the "which disk should I buy" thread.....).

Hi all!
Tomorrow (Friday) through midday Sunday I will be in Denver at
the airport Regency competing in the regional Magic: The Gathering
tournament. Most, if not all, CD mailing is already finished here (for as
much stuff as I have) so it should not interrupt shipping any. I won't be
able to check my e-mail for a few days, so be prepared to wait for an
answer from me. I have my mailbox down to about 14 so I won't be keeping
too many folks waiting, I hope. :)
If you live in Denver, I'd be glad to meet you at the tourney
Saturday, or party with you Friday night (since I'll have nothing else to
do). You'll probably be able to call me by asking for me at the hotel,
but if that fails, call my girlfriend here in Arizona (602-777-0501) and
leave your number in Denver, and I'll be calling home every few hours to
check up with my cat (who's having kittens any minute now) and she'll
pass your number on to me.
Take care all and keep on rocking!!!
I have a tidbit of news I cannot elaborate on, for I am sworn to
secrecy (unless someone else spills it) but I can say this: something we
REALLY want (speaking DT-wise) is going to happen. That's all I can say.
Also be on the watch for Tori Amos unplugged in September!! And
Van Halen and Tori are BOTH on the Twister soundtrack, with the Chili
Peppers... sounds like a keeper to me!!!

a friend of mine was (and is) on the freaks list when there was a
discussion about this particular line. they rationalized it by saying
that since steve rothery studied electrical engineering in school,
"algebra" was (obviously) referring to boolean algebra, not your normal
ninth grade math algebra.

i'm somewhat of a QR newbie, but i was under the impression tate just
went falsetto for those lines in SSM where "mary" is talking, and that
pamela moore just did the "what are you doing out there in the rain?" line
and any others i cant recall at this moment.

awake is more listenable because there seems to be a better flow to the

It's out! The 1st SUPERIOR Newsletter has just been sent away to the
persons who requested it. If someone else is interested in getting it,
just email me (superior@dreamt.org).
Does anyone of the German jammers know, if the Petrucci-Video is out
here too?
About the 2CD-Thing. I can only say, that I'm with the ones, who
say that it would be DT's commercial death if they'd do this.
It's a matter of costs. Costs for the band, costs for the label
and finally costs for the fans.
Hey, hopefully I'll sell my equipment tomorrow and buy the Mesa-Boogie
Tri Axis and the 90/90 Amp. Yipieh! :)
Have a nice weekend everybody!

The new Rush album is called "Test For Echo", it is finished, and
will be released on August 20, 1996. They will tour in the fall since
Neil does not like to tour in the summer. They will hit all the stops
they hit on the Bones tour, and possibly more.
It has 12 songs, one of which is an instrumental. No song titles
are known yet.

Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance is a good buy. You probably don't want
their latest two albums, though. They are entitled Vanishing Lessens
and Carry The Wounded [EP], and they are not too heavy in comparison
to their older stuff- both released on Intense Records.
You might want to try their album *before* POD. It's their best,
IMO. It's called Psycho Surgery- it is released on Intense *and*
Metal Blade (much like POD). Psycho Surgery has a lot of classical
influences.
They've also got an album before that called Stop The Bleeding-
released on Intense and Metal Blade. It is heavy, but it is also
high in the cheesy lyric catagory. It's got 3 great songs- Ark Of
Suffering, The Test For Leprosy, and Somnambulism.
Also, they *just* (like a week ago) released a greatest hits (with 2
new songs). It entitled The Collected Works Of Tourniquet. The 2
new songs are back in their old style, and very heavy in comparison
to their latest two VL and CtW.

Monday I received the 4 CD's from Timothy Lodge (Thanks Tim!). They included the Majesty Demo, both Instrumentals, and Rising Power. I love both of the instrumentals. The thing I don't like about the three DT CD's is that they all are recorded poorly. The level is low and the range of frequencies is also poor. As far as the music is concerned, there awesome. I don't like Chris Collins on the majesty demo. IMHO: He is like worse than Charlie. He screams alot, and just plain out sings bad. Just though I'd let you know what I thought of them.
BTW, Does anyone know when DT is starting their next tour? (You guys will probably give me a "Duh"! But I don't have a clue). Someone mentioned this a few days ago... Why doesn't John Myung(mute man) hold a clinic? Really I don't care that much. But I really wish JP or MP would hold a clinic close to St. Louis. Everyone is saying how they saw them. It seems like it is always on the East Coast or somewhere in Europe. I guess they're too good for us Midwest(except Ohio) people. Shoot, I would travel to Chicago to see one. Anyway, enough of my bitching. Thanks,
