I've been thinking about this one, and something occured to me. If DT
toured with Rush, it would be good for everybody. Here's why:
As far as I can tell, Rush never uses the same band for a whole tour.
They use different bands for different legs. And since DT is a NY-area
band, they'd probably open on the East Coast (whick works out ultra-well
for me. :) One leg of a Rush tour is not a whole tour, so DT would
probably do a club tour in addition to opening for Rush. So, not only
would DT get some big-time exposure, but we would probably also get a
chance to see them in the intimate settings to which we have grown
accustomed.
The only downside, as far as I can tell, would be that if by some extreme
stroke of luck I got a backstage pass to a DT/Rush show, my body would
probably involuntarily shut down from over-excitement, but man! What a
way to go! Then there's the question of do I wear a DT hat and a Rush
shirt, or a Rush hat and a DT shirt?

Which is why I mentioned the above. ;)
>> 3a) Have the Japanese release...
>This is a pretty shitty idea... not saying it won't happen, but IMO it

If I recall correctly, I remember someone actually stating that it is cheaper
for the Japanese to buy American *imports* of a CD than to buy the Japanese
*domestic* version - to combat this (and give the Japanese incentive to buy
the Japanese version) they add extra tracks, packaging, etc. The one benefit
to this is that the Japanese double CD could remain a standard issue, where as
the CD single scenario, as well as the other scenarios I brought up would all
be for a limited time.
>> 3b) Have EastWest make a limited series pressing of the new one featuring a
>> bonus CD, similar to the limited edition version of Soundgarden's...
>Once again, I don't like this idea... what's wrong with making the music

I 'spose you have a point there, but I guess the same would apply to people
getting their hands on the CD singles which although available in some stores
(I'm guessing) are out-of-print. How many times have you seen posts of people
asking for help in finding the Lie and/or Silent Man singles, simply because
they are imports, are rare and (again I'm guessing) are out-of-print. I think
the above scenario really isn't any different.
>> 3c) EastWest could release a limited edition CD containing the extra tracks

>plenty of Dream Theater fans out there without net access...
Okay, but what about having a voucher in the jacket offering the second disc -
then anyone who buys the new one will know about the second CD?
>> So those are my ideas - take 'em or leave 'em, but I'd like some feedback,
>> whatever it maybe (except for flames of course).
>Well, I'm not flaming you for your ideas... mostly because they are

Hey, no problem - after all I did ask for opinions, and that's what I got. ;)

yes, Van Halen has done a new song for the Twister soundtrack. I saw the
video for it earlier this week....nice! Eddie's growing his hair long again,
I think. at least longer then it was!
oh, and the song is called "Human's Being"...and it rocks!

Hi Kids!!!
I saw DT open for Iron Maiden in 92 at the Ritz in NYC. The show
rocked because IM was at the start of their tour. Bruce's voice was
amazing. The only problem was that DT played for only 45 minutes and
at the start of the show most of the people could have given a shit
less whether or not DT played or not. Once they got going most people
were into it though. Steve Harris was watching from the side balcony
and his eyes never left John M's fingers. Nicko was on a local Metal
radio show the night before the show and he heard PMU for the first
time. He said that after hearing it he could not wait to play with
them the next night.
The set list was this. Pull me under, Under a glass moon,
Learning to live, Metropolis, and A fortune in lies. That was all
they had time for. While they did rock the house, it was too short.
I would be torn to see DT open for Rush, I'd love and hate it.
DT would be great, and any Rush show is great, but I need more than
45 minutes of DT. So let's keep with them playing headlining shows.

I reckon I know what Mike Bahr was talking about (his little secret). I
bet he means Charlie D. is going to show up at one of DT's shows to try and
get reunion exposure...and DT is going to kick the shit outta the old
bum!!!! The above is all IMHO! Flame away!

I just got WDADU yesterday and it kinda rocks so far. IMHO it is the
easiest outta the commercial releases to get into, but LaBrie could
DESTROY C.D. IMHO the production sounds like a demo tape and CD sounds
like the lead singer from Accept or something. It's so funny how they
were so glam back then! Thanks to all that recommended WDADU to me, I
like it!

it? YKYADTF if you start talking to an unattractive girl about marriage
just because she lives near a guitar-god. =)
P.P.S. Random question: Who do you jammers like better: Myung or Les
Claypool? Just curious ;-)!

Woo-hoo! Got my first end-of-jam! Chalk up an EOJ on the box scores for

Wonder if it had anything to do with the recent change in my subliminal

think that since I am writing this message in celebration, that *this*
message is destined for an EOJ too, isn't that how it works? :)
Probably not, but I can cross my fingers and hope, can't I? *hehe*

Another copy of the G.A.S. - just to make sure everyone has a chance to
participate.
Item #1: Who do you prefer? Dane Sonnier or Wally Farkas? (Galactic
Cowboys)
My response/opinion: Farkas is to Sonnier what Vai was to Satriani - the
student/understudy turned master. Farkas
Item #2: Favorite Galactic Cowboys album: Galactic Cowboys, Space In Your
Face, or Machine Fish?
My response/opinion: GC made quite an improvement when they were dumped by
Geffen - Geffen or not, Alan Doss did an excellent job producing Machine
Fish, and I think it's, by far, the best sounding and best produced album.
Granted, I'm not quite as familiar with the first two, but, from what I've
heard of them (and they are great, also) Machine Fish takes it for me. MF
Item #3: To those of you who caught Sepultura opening for Ozzy in recent
months: Did you dig them? Or did they just SUCK?!?
My response/OPINION!!!: I have never suffered like that through the
duration of an opening band's show...and I've seen Trixter. It was almost
painful - heck, ditch the 'almost' - it was downright painful! And, I
wasn't the only one. About halfway through their set, the audience
(Phoenix-April 13th) started chanting "Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!" I've NEVER heard
that before.
("Bloody 'orrible!" - Eric Idle, Monty Python). SUCKED!
Item #4: Being a drummer, this one is of particular interest to me - and to
a lot of you, judging by past Jams: Portnoy's drum sound - which do you
prefer? WDADU, IAW, Awake, or ACOS?
My response/opinion: For myself, I would choose the ACOS sound. For DT,
however, I think the sound utilized in the recording of IAW best fits DT's
music. But, who am I to criticize arguably the world's greatest drummer?
IAW
Item #5: Finally, who is your favorite? Portnoy or Peart?
My response/opinion: I tend to prefer Portnoy, but maybe that's because I
prefer DT over Rush, but not by a whole lot. I would love to see those guys
engage in a drum duel, if they tour together - that would almost be too
much for any drummer to stand.
I'd also like for those interested to send me a list of their 10 favorite
bands (go ahead and include DT, but, I think we all know who will come out
on top).
My response/opinion: (In no particular order) DT, King's X, Van Halen,
Rush, GC, Queensryche, Extreme, Saigon Kick, Mr. Big, and Yes.
Send entries to: syoung@primenet.com with 'Re: Survey' in the Subject.
I'll be accepting entries until May 31, at 11:59 pm. Then, I'll tally the
votes and try to post the results on June 1 (my wife's birthday).
Thanks for your participation and refrain from flaming - wow, say THAT ten
times fast.

Hi fellow 'netters,
My name is Jean Chevalier and I recently started using a magazine
subscription club in the USA that has a FREE 1 yr. magazine subscription deal
with your first paid order- and I have been very pleased with them. They
have over 1,500 different USA titles that they can ship to any country on a
subscription basis. As for computer magazines from the USA, they more of a
selection than I ever knew even existed. They have magazines for most every
area of interest in their list of 1,500 titles.
Within the USA, for their USA members, they are cheaper than all their
competitors and even the publishers themselves. This is their price
guarantee.
Overseas, on the average, they are generally around one-fourth to one-half of
what the newsstands overseas charge locally for USA magazines. On some
titles they are as little as one-tenth of what the newsstands charge. They
feel that mgazines should not be a luxury overseas. In the USA, people buy
magazines and then toss them after reading them for just a few minutes or
hours. They are so cheap in the USA! Well, this company would like to make
it the same way for their overseas members. They are also cheaper than all
their competitors in the USA and overseas, including the publishers
themselves! This is their price guarantee. Around one-half their business
comes from overseas, so they are very patient with new members who only speak
limited English as a 2nd language.
Their prices are so cheap because they deal direct with each publisher and
cut-out all the middlemen.
They will send you their DELUXE EMAIL CATALOGUE (around 525K-big and juicey)
!)...if you completely fill out the form above. It has lists of all the
freebies, lists of all the titles they sell, titles broken down by categories
and detailed descriptions on nearly 1,200 of the titles that they sell.
Please do not email me as I am just a happy customer and a *busy* student. I
don't have time to even complete my thesis in time, let alone run my
part-time software business! Please fill out the above form and carefully
follow the intructions above to get it to them via fax or smail.
They guarantee to beat all their competitors' prices. Sometimes they are less
than half of the next best deal I have been able to find and other times,
just a little cheaper - but I have never found a lower rate yet. They
assured me that if I ever do, they will beat it.
They have been very helpful and helped me with all my address changes as I
haved moved from one country to another.
They have a deal where you can get a free 1 yr. sub to a new magazine from a
special list of over 270 popular titles published in the USA. They will
give you this free 1 yr. sub when you place your first paid order with them
to a renewal or new subscription to any of the over 1,500 different popular
USA titles they sell.
They can arrange delivery to virtually any country and I think they have
clients in around 45 or 46 countries now. Outside the USA there is a charge
for FPH (foreign postage and handling) (on both paid and freebie subs) that
varies from magazine to magazine. I have found their staff to be very
friendly and courteous. They even helped me with an address change when I
moved from one country to another.
The owner thinks of his service as a "club" and his clients as "members"
(even though there is no extra fee to become a member - your first purchase
automatically makes you a member) and he is real picky about who he accepts
as a new member. When he sets you up as a new member, he himself calls you
personally on the phone to explain how he works his deal, or sometimes he has
one of his assistants call. He is kind of quirky sometimes - he insists on
setting up new members by phone so he can say hi to everyone (I sure wouldn't
want to have his phone bills!), but you can place future orders (after your
first order) via E-mail.
He has some really friendly young ladies working for him, who seem to know
just as much as he does about this magazine stuff. If you live overseas, he
will even call you there, as long as you are interested, but I think he still
makes all his overseas calls on the weekends, I guess cause the long distance
rates are cheaper then.
He only likes to take new members from referrals from satisfied existing
members and he does virtually no advertising. When I got set-up, they had a
2-3 week waiting list for new members to be called back so that they could
join up. (Once you are an existing member, they help you immediately when you
call. ) I think they are able to get back to prospective new members the
same day or within a few days now, as they have increased their staff. I am
not sure about this.........but if you email the above form to them, that is
the way to get started!
They then send you email that outlines how his club works and the list of
free choices that you can choose from, as well as the entire list of what he
sells; and then they will give you a quick (3-5 minute) friendly,
no-pressure no-obligation call to explain everything to you personally and
answer all your questions.
Once you get in, you'll love them. I do.
Sincerely,
Jean Chevalier
