Bafu and the Vai Part I
      "The Jam and the Flamer"

    *************************************
    *************************************

Bafu: Wow...I've been reading at least 3 jams each day, and I'm
           still a week behind.
Vai: No kidding...you'd think DreamNDay was back already.
    Bafu: He is, dumbass.
Vai: Oops, I forgot...he's in my auto-skip file.
B: That must really save you space and reading time.
V: Well, it makes for a tired "D" finger, that's for sure.
    B: Speaking of Dream Theater...
V: Who said anything about them? They're just a stupid glam
rock band...look at the WDaDU liner!
B: WDa_D_U? I thought it was WDa_T_U?! That MTFBWY guy really
messes with your in-head discography, that's for sure. Those
           bootlegs really throw me off.
V: But they're not boots. Bootlegs are illegal in the US.
B: Well, they're not official releases, and they're not imports, so
           they must be boots, right?
    V: Ugh...
    B: What?!?! I'm just a newbie here...c'mon, give me a break.
V: Just don't write anything addressed TO the band.
B: The band reads the list? Cool...PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WILL
BE COMING TO THE DEEP SOUTH, ESPECIALLY ALABAMA OR GEORGIA...
YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN, DREAM THEATRE.
V: Lemme guess, you're a quoter, too, right?
B: > After all, alternative is just crap, no matter who you
B: > ask, if they are a respected "musician," they will agree,
B: > because they all wear ripped-up flannels and have nose rings
B: > and small dicks, and you know you can't have a nose ring to
    B: > a respected musician.
    B: >
B: > This is IMHO, but if you don't like it, you can kiss my ass.
    B: > Thank you...BTW, 99% of alternative bands suck, and I listen
    B: > to the other 1%.
    B:
    B: Agreed.
V: Wow...can't you just hear those '>' sucking up the bandwidth?
B: I was close enough to James to suck his cock once...
V: Not a picture I wanted to have painted for me.
B: It's okay, though, because his is bigger than the lead singer
           for Green Day's.
V: Enough of the dick talk...
B: Did you know that Damon's computer talks to him?
    V: Yeah...
B: His only problem is that his computer says '#' as "Shift-3",
and Dream Theater has never written a song in F Shift-3.
V: No, but they have written a song in F# before.
B: No they didn't, you fucking idiot. It was in F sharp. Sheesh...
I've been playing that song since I was 1/2 year old, and if
you EVEN try to tell me I'm wrong, I'll slap the shit out of you.
You are a fucking moron, plain and simple. Oh, by the way, if any
other jammers need help, be sure to e-mail me, and I'll be sweet
           and nice to you.

V: Of all the gall...a lurker flaming one of our respected loyal
jammers on his first post. He deserves to have his--
B: WHAT?!?! It was all Damon's fault! Skadz, is there any way you
can ban blind people from posting to the jam? Ask Ken, he might
know. That way, this confusion will never happen again.
V: There was no confusion...it was an asshole, plain and simple.
    B: Slain a pimple? You KILLED Corey Clearasil? I mean, I didn't
like his posting method either, but wasn't that a little extreme?
    V: <shaking head> Bafu, Bafu, Bafu...*poof*
    B: Uh oh....now I'm no longer Bafu + famous guitarist...I'm just Bafu.
Lonely little Bafu, whose jokes will only be half as funny, whose
posts will only be half as long, and who will only get HALF AS
MANY END OF JAMS! NOOOOOOO!!!! What is this cruel world coming to?
    V: Don't worry....it's just an act.
    B: act.org? That's one of the 7 Andrew Millers, isn't it?
V: I think I'm going to start encrypting my posts to the Jam, so
I can see how many people post asking "How can I UUDecode this?
Is it a nude picture of Alicia Silverstone? <slobber>"
    B: What will you use?
    V: RSA.
B: Red Sector A? I refuse to deal with them...they stole the "Official"
site from Jeff....poor guy, he does all the work, organizes the
Con, and can't have Lifting Shadows as the official site.
V: No, RSA the algorithm, you fucking idiot.
B: Wow! I officialy nominate myself as a heretofore "Fucking Idiot".
I feel better already! By the way, when IS the Con?
    V: October.
B: No, WHEN is the Con?
    Lurk1: What's a Con?
    V: Oh, boy...
B: Did you know that the band doesn't even know they're gonna be there?
V: Uh, yes....I knew that. They're too busy working on their 2CD set
           to care right now.

The IRC page is on hold for one more week, then it goes up. Stop day is

that I have 6 days of sheer boredom to fill, and the IRC page will do
just fine. Look for another post before I leave here on the 17th.

    Howdy all,

Strolling along the footpath the other day I stood on Mike Portnoy's face.
He was on the cover of a little drummers newspaper type thing, which had
the details of the "Drummer's Weekend" a Drums and Percussion Expo.
I mentioned this about a week ago and I had no replies (except you Brett)
    from any other Aussies... :(

Anyway, the details are this. June 15th and 16th weekend at the Preston
Arts & Entertainment Centre (in Melbourne) from 10am to 6pm, with
concerts from 1pm to 6pm. You can call DRUMTEK on (03) 9482 5550 for
more details, which I am getting around to doing. I'll post details when
    I get them.

Anyway the main part of the story is that Mike Portnoy will be doing his
drum clinic as part of it, AND
                               ---
                               ---
                               ---
he will be playing live with Dream Theater cover band
"Theater of Dreams", because their drummer Virgil Donati (sp?) is elsewhere.
So therefore HE himself will be playing along to several DT songs. I saw
this band play live they are awesome. They pulled off Metropolis and
    Take The Time perfectly.

Now I know there must be people from Australia interested in this.
I will be taping the show if any other ppl are interested?
Please, please, please don't miss this. It may be your best and only
chance to see Dream Theater play here in Australia.

Mail me at 930377@bud.cc.swin.edu.au or the jam so I can see if I'm
    wasting my breath....

    *******
My guess to Mike Bahr's secret is that Peter Collins has been confirmed
to produce the new album. That has to be it. If Rush have no confirmed
any dates, then they sure as hell won't have confirmed DT to play with
    them yet...

    Back to the usual.

Sorry, I haven't really kept up with Maiden after '7th son'...
That was the last one I bought, and the last one they released before
they took those two years off (right?). I really really love(d) that
album. But I remember some other headbangers, I knew back then,
telling me that they hated that album. They didn't like the fact that
Maiden used keys on their album. They were really into that early
    Maiden stuff.

Personally I always thought they could have been a pretty great
prog-rock band, if only they had a different singer (someone like
JLB or Geoff Tate). That twin-guitar stuff fucking rulez. :^D

Has anyone ever heard about Nicko McBrain's jaws locking up during a
gig ? I heard he opened his mouth just a little bit too far one time...
His jaws snapped (or something like that) and he couldn't close his
mouth during that whole concert... (or at least that's what someone
    told me). :-B

It was sumised that someone masquarading as being from aol sent it out.

looked yesterday and they have two:

            1. Dream Theater - Images & Words - Live in Tokyo
            2. Dream Theater - Music in Progress - Live in Japan

Is the second one after Awake? They are pretty much the same price,

Actually (and anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), in Japan,
it's actually cheaper for a music fan to buy an import CD than a Japanese
release (for some reason, anyone?). So the record companies put "bonus
tracks" on most Japanese releases as an incentive to buy them rather than
imports. The flipside of that is that these bonus Japanese releases become
hot items as imports to the rest of the world. Clever, no? :)

"'Lie' is actually the reprise to 'The Mirror.'"

And then there's the dilemma of socks, shorts, boxers, condoms, etc.

Myung, of course. Claypool's cool, but he gets tedious, along with the rest of the band. His best work was his song for Rob Wasserman's "Trios" cd. Myung knows when to play and when not to play, does cool stuff, but does it with taste and with style.

    How the hell?

That's about all. Bass players, let me know if you have a recommendation for a bass combo amp less than $700 and more than 100 watts. Privately, of course. Does anyone have a large Majesty symbol on their web page that I could print out?
