    Hey all ....

Hopefully we have gotten rid of the stupid magazine spam.
The only thing is that long posts, like the length of the magazine
shit will no longer make it on to the jam. I know Mike Bahr has
basically stopped sending updates to the list which should be fine,
but if you are working on something that seems like it is gonna be
real long, split it up :)

    Dear jammers,

Greetings all! Man, I'm really behind on my jams! But anyways, just wanted to inform you that you guys don't have to worry about the Red Sector A/Lifting Shadows thing at all. The thing is that I'm now working FOR Red Sector A, which means that Lifting Shadows will become part of the Red Sector A Dream Theater page! I already put that up on the news section of Lifting Shadows a little while ago. But, you will see some really cool stuff as soon as we finish up this project, so keep an eye out for the Red Sector A page!

    Yours, Jeff =)

    Hey all ....

As I mentioned, probably just a few posts ago, the spams have hopefully been eradicated for the time being. We will try to keep and eye out for em, but hopefully they are gone.

Is someone still mailing people who unsuccessfully try to send mail to subscribe? I feel bad if I am just skipping these and people aren't being told.

As for Iron Maiden and SSOASS, its a good album, not amazing, but good. The stuff since then has been downhill. Its kinda scary listening to the last three albums and literally hearing the same song over and over again. When I saw them a few months ago, I was like "This is <insert song name>, no wait its <insert a different song name>" The songs pretty much sound the same IMHO.

Two CDs. I still keeping thinking about this. I definately feel we don't want a straight double disc. I mean, how many people out there are in school or whatever and basically all money goes to important things like food and alcohol? If I was still in school, I probably would not have been able to afford $30+ for a CD, but would have gone in to debt because it was DT. The GNR 2 discs at once is an idea, but I'm still not sure. I think I would much rather they release a few singles each with an extra two unreleased songs on em.

DT and Rush. Hmmmmm D-Man had an interesting idea. I like it. Let DT play with Rush on the East Coast, so they get the exposure and then let them do a tour on their own with Fates opening or something :) I just hope they play Avalon this time instead of Berklee. I _HATE_ seats at a show.

Last but definately not least ... The Flames. Thanks for stopping. At least we have some decent content on the jam now.

Hiya, About bass combo amps. Don't buy one. Combo amps are like stock car stereos. They are just not that good. I suggest that you save upa little more money and get a cab/head. They sound soooo much better. I use an Eden Highwayman run into a 4x10 Eden cab and D15T Eden cab-it just shits all over my old peavey combo amp although Peavey's new 4x10's rock the house. Just a little advise-get a used cab/head over a new combo-you'll be glad you did.

    Cheers!

With the number of these posts that are being sent to the 'jam, there are two very likely possibilities: a) The person sending the message isn't taking the time to read the instructions on how to sign onto the list, and sending the request here, because they didn't bother to read about -request and listproc b) Someone out there has incorrect instructions on their WWW page (or there are incorrect instructions somewhere else).

Everyone here who has a DT, page, please check it and make sure that you're clear about sending mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com

Also, concider not mentioning ytsejam@ax.com . If someone sends a message like "I'm your biggest fan, please add me to the list," listproc will automatically send them a message explaining how to subscribe.

Of course, maybe we're better off w/o these people on the list. :)

Most likely, it's the news that DT will open for Rush in the fall. :)

As some have said, this will suck, in the sense that we'll only get to see DT for an hour tops, maybe 45 min, and non-Rush fans will have to pay more for a ticket ($30+). It -would- be a good career move, though, especially down here in the South where DT is largely ignored in favor of (blech) country-rock. Gee, more Skynyrd, anyone? <retch>

One thing I've noticed at recent Rush shows: sometimes the opener sounds better than Rush, because their sound guy really pushes the sound up during the headliner's set. If DT can turn in a good performance as an opener -- not an easy task usually -- they should make some fans amongst the Rush faithful, especially if they play more Rush-like songs in their set.

Hi all! Just wanted to echo this out for everyone, in addition to answering the e-mail message it came with. :)

    > Could you run the criterion for getting precious things by me? I seemed > to have missed it somewhere along the lines... what're my odds? heh.. > (nonexistent?) thanks for the info!

Your odds are still perfectly good. :) The print run is going to be no less than 200 at this point, because I had so many people who automatically qualified that 100 would have been unfair to the rest of everyone. Here's how it goes:

You get a copy free if you: * are in the band or with their management * are one of my assistants doing the shipping :) * have done cover art for my CDs.

You get a reservation automatically if: * You have all the Dream Theater CDs I've made so far, or; * You have Cygnus and four out of the five DT CDs. * You have in some way helped me a great deal in the past. (i.e. contributed material for the CDs, got me backstage, etc.)

About 60 more resevations will be left, to be distributed as follows:

10: Completely random. My girlfriend will pick names out of a hat. This will be the last ones to go so that we don't duplicate reservations of people who earned them with the next few criteria: 10: Dream Theater Ultimate Trivia on the Ytsejam list. Coming in 2 weeks. The top 10 at the end of the contest, score-wise, get reservations. 10: The same trivia, except on alt.music.dream-theater, and yes this means that most of you will get 2 chances to try for it. 10: Ytsejam mini-contest. In one paragraph (50 words or less) you have to convince me that you deserve to get that CD. I'll do this in about 2 weeks also. 10: Same thing, again, on the newsgroup instead. 10: To be determined! I don't know WHAT I'll do for the final ten. I'm thinking to, say, give one to the first person who sells their Subconscious CD at the original price to some needy Jammer. :) Or the first person to eat an entire pizza that is covered with whipped cream, strawberry yogurt, and peanut butter. I dunno. :)

Take it easy!! MTFBWY! Mike Bahr, durnik@indirect.com/mikebahr@dreamt.org

Both play almost completely different styles (techincally and musically), so its hard to compare the 2. Les leads from the front while JM plays the classic role of connecting melody and beat. But JM rules. I'l love to see JM and Billy Sheehan do something together. Their styles are so similar.

I know that the band Shadow Gallery has been mentioned on numerous occasions and I was always kinda interested but never did anything about it. Well, this weekend, while on a roadtrip, I heard one of their tunes on the radio. Right when I heard it I thought it was cool. Then when they said it was Shadow Gallery I decided I have to hear more. Do they have any domestic releases or are they only available as imports? I'm dying to hear a whole album from these guys. If anyone can help, please e-mail me personally.

Def Leppard's "Hysteria" was the first cassette I > >ever bought, and I still have it. > > me too! and so did someone else... man how many other people bought > this as their first cassette?

After Hysteria came out, I was just getting into rock, as pop-music no longer satisfied me (I was in a limbo when rap became popular). So, I went to the music store and saw a few cassettes on the shelf (it was a small store). I saw a Rush album (a guy I knew in high school preached Rush, and I was beginning to become interested) with a naked guy standing on a brain as a cover. "What the hell kind of song titles are those?" I asked myself as I as I looked at another Rush cassette. "Bacchus Plateau?" no thanks. I'll try to find some more recent stuff (I ended up starting my Rush-trek with the just-released HYF- it's still my favorite Rush album). I saw _Hysteria_. Sure, I'd heard of Def Leppard, but I thought only stoners listend to that kind of music. Note: I remember Hysteria being out for a long time before radio picked it up and everyone started buying it, this was the time period. Ah. Look! _Inside Information_ from Foreigner. I'd heard a few singles on the radio and I liked them.

Needless to say, I passed up three great albums to get something that I listened to for a few months and caused my to dislike about every Foreigner song I ever heard later. It wasn't until everyone else jumped on the _Hysteria_ bandwagon that I did, too. ___________

    Scorp's: Pure Instinct.

I was sitting in my car listening to the stereo, drinking MDG and catching lung cancer, when I heard the new single on the radio. It sounded good! Maybye I will buy this album (unlike the last one). It was 2 AM and I had 8 beers in me, so I'm not sure about the song title, something like "Love Child" or "Child in Time" (wait, isn't that Deep Purple?). Sounded like the kind of Scorp's I used to love (To Be With You in Heaven, I'm Leaving You, RYLaH, if you understand).

    that's all,

    Zach

    Hello all,

Everyone who has sent me mail about this gets first picks. I have you all in a file in order of date. Here is the scoop. I called the guy and he gave me a list of what he has left. I haven't gotten prices yet because it was long distance and it was a long list. The prices I paid at the show were resonable. So here is what I think I will do I will keep a running list of who wants what in order of the date it was requested. If it looks like all the items will sell I will put the whole deal on my card and then collect the money from each of you. The problem is this guy has a show to do on 5/11 so if I am going to order the stuff it must be done by 5/9. This means you must get back to me ASAP so I know what I need to order.

    THE LIST:

    1) 3- AWAKE w/EVE mini disc from JAPAN 2) 2- AWAKE from JAPAN without EVE mini disc 3) 2- TTT promo 4) 4- black & white AWAKE USA promo 5) #?- LIE, TLF, SDV, AD single 6) 2- Silent Man (3 tracks) 7) 4- Silent Man (1 track) single from JAPAN 8) #?- I & W LP from France 9) 1- Afterlife single (remix) 10) 5- I & W LP sealed with British fan club mag inside 11) 20+ 1992 JAPAN tour pass with burning heart & girl pic 12) 20+ 1993 USA tour pass with pic of full band in color

To anyone who has a link to my dt page, it's gone. I was forced to reformat my hard drive in which i lost everything. I'm planning on re-building it over the summer but it will not be accessible until august. If you want, you can make the link to

    http://www.uiuc.edu/ph/www/polzin/dt/dt.htm

where there is a temporary page explaining the situation. This is where my page will reside when i re-build it. thanks for all the reviews and encouragement. later
