You picked up two of the least 'progressive' of the Magna Carta
bands. Magellan, Shadow Gallery, Enchant and Cairo have more progressive
tendencies. None of the Magna Carta bands are as heavy sounding as DT though.
Shadow Gallery is probably the closest to DT in overall sound (but
don't expect them to be like DT or as good -- they're different). I find
their music can get a bit cheesy at times, but a lot of DT fans (including
me) like their album "Carved in Stone".
Magellan is my favorite of the Magna Carta bands. They have a lot
of complex rhythms and melodies and great dynamics. They feature the keyboard
more than the guitar but it usually is used a driving style that I love. It
took me a little while to get used to the vocals, but now I love them. Try
"Impending Ascension".
Enchant is a little more guitar oriented and song oriented than
Shadow Gallery or Magellan. They are worth trying.
Cairo is the most keyboard oriented of the bands I mentioned. I
also find them a bit boring. The keyboards are well done, but they don't
grab you with good melodies or dramatic dynamics. I'd recommend the above
bands first.
It's too bad you had the bad luck the pick the least progressive
of the Magna Carta bands first. Hopefully, you'll enjoy the other bands
more. They're worth trying.
Let me know if you want more info...
