Well, I, too have a guess as to what Mr. Bahr is talking about: I think EastWest is gonna release a video. Probaly one with the Lie, CiaW, and SM videos, plus some Ronnie Scott's footage or interviews and things of that sort. What did they do the last time they had a full lenghth album coming out and needed to quench thier fans' thirst for more stuff? Live in Tokyo. Just a guess. The new Pantera album is pretty slick. But I have a gripe: Darrell's annoying guitar riffs. It's as though he can't come up with a solid two-measure riff. He'll play some really cool, heavy groove for a bar and a half and then it's like he can't come up with a way to end it, so he does some harmonic squeal. Just my opinion. I've only listened to it once, so I'm probably being overky critical. I really dig Suicide Note Pt. I -- every time Vinnie did those cymbal rolls I thought it was gonna get heavy, but it totally stays soft. Until Suicide Note Pt. II -- good goly! I think Paul Gilbert totally did some tape speeding up and whatnot on that GTRTW track. Bafu said it was like 18 notes per second? Jeez! 16 notes per second is 32nd notes at 120 bpm, which is insane! All of you that have seen JP's home video know that he has a tough time with sixteenth notes at 208 (same as 32nd notes at 104), so that makes what Yngwie and Paul are doing even more impressive, if we're talking PICKED notes, that is. If Bafu's talking about hammered notes, that's a little more believable. (note to JP worshippers -- yes, he did it at 208, but that was with distortion and the neck pickup, so as to disguise mistakes....) Can anyone tell us about the bands Enchant and Cairo? I know they're on Magna Carta and I think they've been mentioned on the jam before, but I don't want to make a purchase based on that alone. You see, I went out and purchased two CDs the other day, one by World Trade and one by Tempest (both are on Magna Carta, so I was thinking, "I can't go wrong!"). Let's just say they have nice cover art. Who's the jammer who lives near the corner of Beacon Street and Bay State Road? Please email me privately -- we're too darn close to not know each other. Anyone know a lot about neck adjustments on guitars? Mine need some, and I don't want to spend 30 bucks each for setups. Please email me privately! Thanks. Oh, to the guy wondering about Pantera's mailing list and stuff, you must not have looked inside the liner to the new CD -- the first page is basically devoted to the computer equipped Pantera fan. Check it out! So when is Procroniouminouniricuminum or whatever supposed to come out, anyway?

All right! Enough rambling for now! Jam on!

    Mike,

I have 2 REAL guesses as to the secret.. and for all those who bit hard on my suggestion that Rush was opening for DT.. jeez.. ever heard of "tongue in cheek" ??

OK.. Guess #1.. Someone finally wised up and signed Kevin Moore to a deal for Chromakey..

Guess #2.. DT will record and release a full-length live CD after they finish the new studio CD.

Maybe. It all depends on how much money you have and what you're playing. I used to have a Marshall 400 watt bi-amped head into a Peavey 2-10" 1-18" cab. When I got to the club, I went direct so my amp was just a second monitor on stage. Now, I have a Carvin Pro Bass 150. It's small enough that one person can carry it, I can add a second speaker cabinet to boost it to 150 watts, it's plenty loud enough and sounds great. And when I play out, I'll go direct anyway. Plus, this amp was only $360 instead of $900.

So, Mark Tomko, it's just my opinion but I can recommend the Carvin. It's almost as if they guys who built it, played bass once :). It's well constructed, has a metal grill on front, two speaker outputs (one goes to the speaker built-in) it's 100watts as is but 150 if you add a speaker. Has built-in compression and noise gate and the tone controls are such that even I can understand them (I spent an hour setting up my other amp - it has bass, middle and treble).

    >"I just bought a Bass Masters Magazine and all the articles were about >freakin fishing, not one word about Jaco or Myung. What gives!"

ha ha. When I at Berklee, I had a bass class with (the head of the Bass dept. - can't remember his name). He told us about getting up at 6:00am on Sunday to watch a show called Bass Masters. :)

Wow, I am really surprised that no one has guessed this yet. I have absolutely no idea what Mike is talking about, but I was sure it was going to be a DT\Rush tour. Oh well. Every time I look at the contents, I think someone is going to guess right, but most of them are jokes, Ugh! I was really looking forward to the next tape tree for the Holiday shows, and I too am very surprised people complained about the quality of the Birch Hill tape. Hey G's,

The Pantera Digest just got resurrected from the dead today, and it's at a new address. It is NO LONGER at the address listed in the new Pantera album, so ignore that shit. The listowner was running the digest off the USDA server (moo), but he said that if you send mail to that address, it could cost him his job.

Boy is he in for a surprise when he sees the old address listed in the new album. Boo-yah.

The new subscription address is: <majordomo@cybercash.com> message body: subscribe mouth4war [yo' email address here] to just get info, write the following message body: info mouth4war

The new posting address is <mouth4war@cybercash.com>

This digest is pretty harsh. If you thought the Ytsejam could get bad, you're in for a serious shock. The whole motto for the list is "STAY FUCKING HOSTILE!!" And believe me, they do. But Pantera management posts regularly, some good threads pop up occasionally, and there are some cool people on there. But we could always use some more cool people, so come on over! Chill wit us in da Pantera Posse!

Yes, for those of us that would need to buy *everything*, it would be considerably more expensive. The record company knows, however, that the "mainstream" music fan is not going to want to shell out $30-$35 for a double album set.

Also - another example of the two albums seperately concept - The two Iron Maiden live albums ("A Real Live One"/"A Real Dead One").

    > I have Def Leppard's Hysteria too. It wasn't my first tape, but >it was close.

Hmmm...Just thought I'd add my $1/50. "Hysteria" was my first CD. I don't remember what the first album I got was, but it was a gift and I was about 6 years old.

The first tape I bought was Dire Straits - "Brothers In Arms"

Wessel Marquering said on Jam #1523:

    > I don't agree with Itchy about Brave being the best album to start.

    D'oH ! :-/

    > For a DT fan it's much easier to get into Marillion after hearing > Misplaced Childhood.

Wessel, you're probably more of a Fish-Era Marillion-fan, am I right ? I used to be too, before Brave, and before Fish started fucking up big time (IMO). To those who do check out 'Misplaced Childhood' and love it: Try Fish' solo-album 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors'. That IMO is a great album too. I don't really care much for the other albums he did (although 'Suits' is kinda nice).

    Personally, I recommended Brave because:

    1) I think it's their best album so far <-- IMNSHO

    2) It's a 'Hogy' album and if you get into Marillion you're gonna have to "Get Used To It" <-- Yet another Marillion-Quote from Itchy

    3) Brave is Fucking Brilliant (IMO, of course) Before 'Brave' my favourite Marillion album was 'Misplaced Childhood' too, or maybe 'Clutching At Straws', or... oh well...

    > It's no coincidence that this album is one of the favourite albums of > Mike Portnoy.

Ha ! See, Marillion *are* great. Even Mike Porntoy thinks so !

    > It's a briliant concept album, and in contrast with Brave it's not so > heavily laden and such down sounding album and got much better lyrics.

And DT's songs are all Happy and Cheerful, right ? :)

Btw, I prefer to use the word 'different' instead of 'better'. Fish' lyrics are more poetic in an 80's-kinda way. Hogy's (and Helmer's) lyrics are a bit more contemporary. However, Brave isn't *that* 'down sounding'. It's about keeping the strenght to go on living... It's about courage. It does have a happy ending, you know (Made Again, read my .sig). :)

    > All IMO of course.

    I should hope so! ;)

    > As far as the rest what Itchy wrote about the albums I do agree, > however. (if one would like to check out some newer stuff than > Misplaced Childhood I suggest Season's end or Afraid of sunlight)

Itchy bows, and agrees about SE and AoS.

Us Marillion-Freaks should stick together, right !!! I really don't care what albums you guys buy first... As long as you get them ALL!

    > Hey, Itchy, since you're promoting Marrilion that much on the jam, I > think you have promote DT equally much on the Marillion digest !!!!

Maybe I will ! But IMO it's easier for a DT fan to get into Marillion than vice versa. A lot of Freaks will probably think DT is too heavy.

Maybe you guys should check out 'Made Again' instead of Brave. It's a double live-album that contains the entire 'Brave' album on disc 2. If that album starts selling big time, they might even be able to tour the US this time around !

    > Further, I received the first two fanzines from Theater of Dreams, the > Dutch DT fanclub. Not bad, after subscribing 4 months ago (It seemed to > be a miscommunication) Anyway, the magazines look very good!

It's Great ! It's also the most beautiful DT-fanclub magazine according to DT themselves. They did have some problems with the language, though. ;-)

Gandalf, I have to agree with Steve....

Pyromania was/is concidered one of the best recorded albums (right up their with Boston's first) ... Def Lep pioneered a great deal of recording and performance techniques that have become staples in todays music. Regardless, the Leps are one of the only British rock bands that have remained contenders since the beginning! Iron Maiden is on an independant, struggling without Bruce doing clubs...and I will bet money that Def Leppard will tour arena's with their new release, Slang (due out in two weeks). If you want to talk about what Maiden contributed, be careful not to confuse their accomplishments with the pioneered accomplishments of Queen and Boston! Im not here to bust on Maiden...I like Iron Maiden, but just coming out and saying "Def Leppard sucks balls!" is kinda dumb when you don't really understand how much they have contributed to Rock music. It's reminiscent of a bunch of your colegues busting on Winger because they are uncool now, without realizing that Winger had one of the greatest Drummer's in the outfit and a very good guitarist. Don't confuse accomplishment with hype!

    M O J O M A N B A R K S !!!!!
