    Count another vote for CiS being a great album: heavy stuff, power ballads,
    classical-type bonus track, and a 22-minute epic piece titled "Ghostship."
    (Deleting comments about Enchant and Magellan, since I don't yet have
    any of their stuff...)

    However, (IMHO) calling them boring might be a bit of an overstatement.
    They are not as over-the-top as DT and Shadow Gallery are, but, taken as
    what they are (which is neo-prog), they are quite good. The best
    comparisons in my collection are Arena and, to a lesser extent, Pendragon;
    both of which are distributed (in the US) on the Griffin label.
    I can recommend Arena's "Song's from the Lion's Cage" quite highly; Clive
    Nolan on keys, Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion) on drums, and Steve Rothery
    guests on one track. Pendragon is good, but isn't even on the same planet
    as DT, sound-wise, so I'd approach them through some other neo-prog; any of
    the above should suffice. BTW, Clive Nolan is also Pendragon's keyboardist;
    anyone know how many other places this guy shows up?
    If it's heavier neo-prog you want, try Grey Lady Down, also on Griffin.
    I only have "The Crime", which I believe is their second of three albums.

    First Album bought:
     Night Ranger - Midnight Madness.

    The Secret:
     Obviously, DT will play a gig in North Dakota. (Yeah right.)

     A serious guess? Ok... I think they will release the rest of their Covers
     gig to round out the stuff on ACOS.

    Me:
     Just one of the newer fellows, amongst the now-722 member 'Jam.

    Weather:
     It has yet to hit 60 degrees F in Grand Forks, ND, this year. It sucks.

            You are wrong when you say Sister Mary was sung by Pamela
    Moore. Geoff Tate did all the lead vocals (Suite sister mary
    included) for O:M. I remember when Mindcrime came out the band was on
    MTV and the VJ asked them if that was Geoff singing and he said
    rather emphaticly " YES ". Pamela Moore only did the " What are you
    doing out in the rain? Come in" parts. Just listen to the part where
    Mary says " I'll close my eyes, You shoot" especially the you shoot
    part. Listen to it and you'll hear that is is Geoff Tate without
    question.

             Mojo, perhaps you did not see my post. I said Hysteria, not
    Pyromania. I also tend to disagree with you on the fact that they are
    still doing well, while Maiden is playing clubs. I don't see anybody
    beating down the doors to get the first copy of there next album.
    Have you heard any singles yet? They have gone down hill fast since
    Pyromania. They can't get out of that Glam faze. My friends have
    nothing to do with it either, they do however call you " Kip "
    affectionatly, when refering to you.

    Wow, I rarely ever post at all, and here I am posting twice within one hour.

    Anyway, I was fooling around with some web searches and I ended up on the Ibanez JEM 777 home page. I followed
    a few links and came across a picture of an Ibanez JEM with what appears to be a Majesty symbol emblazoned on
    the finish in red. Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? I e-mailed the creator of the page for more
    information. Perhaps this guitar was or is connected to DT or John Petrucci.

    If you'd to check it out, set your browser to:

    If this has already been discussed on the jam and I'm making an ass of myself, please humor me.

    I need some help. I have four Emerson, Lake, and Palmer CDs. They are the
    first album, "tarkus", "trilogy", and "brain salad surgery." I also
    bought "works: volume II" but did not like it. What do you suggest I buy

    Itchy,

            Okay, I will be one of the first to agree that you may have gone
    a bit overboard with all the Marillion talk. But like you said, I didn't
    see anyone getting upset about it, so don't sweat it. It's good that we
    all try to expose each other to new music, even if some of us go
    overboard. Btw, anyone out there still not have Galactic Cowboys?
    *hehe*

            So, my point is this, band recommendations are good... just try
    not to go *too* overboard on one band. I've gotten into some great music
    as a result of the Ytsejam and of the tape swap project I carried out a
    few months back. I'm now a proud fan of Kansas, Paradise Lost, Death,
    Echolyn, Iced Earth, and Shadow Gallery, all as a direct result of
    recommendations of fellow Jammers and the like. And I constantly find
    myself pulling out old albums I haven't listened to in forever when
    someone mentions them... in the next few weeks I even intend on stealing my
    brother's copy of Misplaced Childhood (or whatever the name of it is) by
    Marillion and giving it another listen.

    heheh, looks like what I did to my guitar...
    except mine is a red sticker on a dark blue body,
    and the symbol isn't really visible from a distance.

    but *I* know it's there. =)

    also, somebody or bodies ask'd about Magna Carta bands,
    and most of the bands were cover'd except for Enchant.

    My recommendation is to definitely go for these guys.
    (if you're me, that is.)
    (if you're not me, then you'll want to hear a bit about them first)

    they sort of sound like a cross between late Rush (HYF) and DT --
    long stuff that is guitar orient'd, but not very chunky.
    I *really* like the lyrics;
    the singer is almost at LaBrie's level (not quite as operatic);
    the guitarist is very good (Steve Rothery guests, Marillion Fans!)
    the keyboardist is great and excells at laying down airy textures
    (I think he only solo's -- albeit very capably -- on two songs, tho)
    (unfortunately, he's no longer with the band... =( );
    the bass player is pretty good, although he suffers from Myung Syndrome
    (you have to strain to pick him out o' the mix most of the time);
    and the drummer is phenomenal. Really. he's one of the reasons
    that I could not put the disc away when I first got it.
    Mister Portnoy, watch out!

    this is the best disc I have bought since Images and Words.

    YMMV

    I don't think so, since on the Livecrime video we actually see the woman
    singing (live, onstage) while Geoff is writhing about. And while her
    voice is similar to his, it isn't the same. Now, I suppose it's possible
    that she sang on tour and Geoff sang it in the studio, but I really
    doubt it, since she definitely has the same voice on both recordings.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Red Sector A" is not a Dream Theater song.
    It's a Rush song.

    Iron Maiden sucked cow balls. Who cares who was competing with who? You're competing with people right now as to who knows the most about Dream Theater and a host of other things, and it makes me sick. Go grab another End-Of-Jam if it'll make you feel better.

    Big deal. My original post made a pretty obvious reference to myself with the word "I." I heard Wang Chung on the radio dozens of times. I'll stick with my generation, you stick with yours. I still don't think either of us listens to "shit like Oasis."

    Maybe I'm just more concerned with my timing than you are. Maybe I like seeing how my right-hand picking technique stacks up with those fortunate enough to have theirs on a recorded album. In my opinion the only way to prove that someone (Paul Gilbert) is "fast" (or proficient in some way in their profession) is to show how he picks "faster" than his contemporaries, thus earning him the title of "fast" within his field. What do you want me to say? "No, he sounds faster than Yngwie to me, so he must be."

    Don't know anyone who did! :)

    Shit, uh... I was kind of kidding when I suggested that... You knew I was kidding, right? I don't really want to...yeah, anyway...

    Anyone seen Monkeyboy lately? Was he grounded? Like a coffee bean or something?

    Necrophilia?! Someone mention this to Petrucci if he shows up at the Con. Maybe DT could do a song on an album based on the Necronomicon soundtrack, but change the title to Necrophilia...
