As our good friend Pat Griffin (Gabbo) pointed out to me via
private e-mail, some of you are getting pretty sick of me
'shoving Marillion down your throats'. If this is indeed true...
I'm extremely sorry... I thought exposing people to something else
than flames-wars might be a nice change... Guess I was wrong...

Personally I haven't seen ANY complaints about my posts on the jam.
Could you please tell me what the hell you're talking about ?
    (digest numbers + names, please...)

I certainly haven't heard anyone complain on IRC... I actually got
about 10 private messages from people asking about 'them', that album
of theirs I love so much and their mailinglist... I thought I was
helping people out... Guess I was wrong again...

If anyone got something out of my posts (meaning: you really got into
that band I'm not going to mention anymore) then that makes me very
happy. Hearing from you would help a lot...

Pat (Gabbo), I know you told me you weren't flaming me... but it
really feels like you were... So much that I'm even considering
unsubscribing... I don't need this... Maybe I'm being oversensitive...
Maybe I'm too stupid to realize when enough is enough...
Maybe I should just shut up...

PS. Pat, I know that you didn't want to take this to the Jam, but I
thought that if there's any truth to your message, apologizing here
is the least I could do... Sorry about wasting your time + bandwidth...

Mark, the Jammer formerly known as Itchy...

Ive had this CD for a while and it isnt bad. I think lyrically they

This album came out in 1994, but I havent heard anything from them since,

About Itchy asking if anyone has found his posts annoying, all I have to say
is that I like his input. He might go off about them sometimes but overall I
think his input is good. I love the band, not as much as DT, and definately
not as much as Rush. So Itchy, I love it when you post stuff about Marillion
Keep on doin' it unless the rest of the jammers don't want you to!

    Jam on!

Seed got a lot of air play on MTV's alternative nation, and on WDRE a local
alternative radio station. Weird because a few songs border on the
grunge sound but like D-Man said they are more like Yes, or echolyn but
heavier. Whatever, there new album should be out soon, check the home
page for deatils. And if you live in the Texas area they play like every
rat ass bar in the area. "Ling" like Chris said is easy, very easy to
find so go out and buy it.

Oh I almost forgot, WHAT THE HELL DOES *The Miracle* mean? No clue D-man.

"State of the Art" that's probably from the radio show. It's from the
concert that night, claims to be soundboard, and is missing a few songs
(commercial break?), so it seems like an edit of the radio show. SOund
quality is excellent, but Geoff was sick that night and is off key at much
of the beginning :( But, I was there, so it's fun to own. They did have
toi cut out "Best I can" and "The Needle Lies" tho. :(>>

If you are looking for a full copy of the show, there is a bootleg out called
"Saints and Sinners" It's 2 CDs and has the entire show. Although Geoff did
have bronchitis, I think he pulled off a helluva job that night. The
announcers said that he didn't even have a voice when he woke up. Amazing!
Oh, BTW, if any of you jammers want a copy of the show, I can dub it for
    you. Just e-mail me privately.

Hi everyone, this is my first YTSEJAM post in 2 years!
    (Did I miss anything? :) )

THANKS to ye who mentioned the free Funkmeister concert! I won't be
    missing that one!

There's been tons of Marillion talk here lately. . .I just listened to Brave for the first time today. It's interesting, but I'm still more
partial to the Fish-era. For you Marillion fans, I picked up a disc
called Songs From The Lion's Cage by a band called Arena. Their style
is very Marillionesque. In fact, the thank-yous include "all the
Marillion fan clubs". In fact, Steve Rothery plays on one track. In
fact, this band might as well BE Marillion! The moral is, if you like
Marillion, buy this one(if you can find it). Now that I've tempted
    y'all, here's the label:

    Griffin Music Inc.
    PO Box 87587
    Carol Stream, IL 60188-7587
    Fax: (708) 858-7806
    email: GrifMus@aol.com

The disc has a list of some other interesting titles they carry, mainly
reissues, like The Best of Babe Ruth (anyone remember them?).

Is ANYONE here familiar with the band Mr. So & So, which put out an album
a few years ago called Paraphernalia on a British label called Pagan
Records? I randomly picked it up in a used shop in Miami a few years
ago, and it's one of my all-time favorite albums, out of my 750 discs
it's one of the top 10 most played! I REALLY would like to find out
whatever happened to this band, or if they put out any other material.
    Any help is vastly appreciated!

OK, for some DT-related content, does anyone know if Meanstreak is still
around, and if so, what are they up to?

I have gotten a rash of new albums lately. Here are some reviews.

    PANTERA-THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL
Just released in my part of the country today, and I have listened to it 3
times in the span of three hours. Is it just me, or is Phil's voice getting
better with each album? The two Suicide Note songs are the best Pantera
songs ever. Such effective lyrics. First so negative, then so positive.
Something Metallica failed to do with Fade To Black. The trend is dead!!!

    SEPULTURA-ROOTS
I don't care if they suck live. A very powerful album. It kicked all ass.
Especially on Ratamahatta. Their songwriting skills have definitley progressed.

    RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE-EVIL EMPIRE
Totally cool. The guitar sounds are really cool. Morello is the only
person who can build a riff by unplugging his guitar. The lyrics are
catchier than last time, especially on Down Rodeo. It has parts where there
is too much to listen to at once, then they come in with a groove that makes
me want to break it down. Kick ass.

    SIXTEEN HORSEPOWER-SACKCLOTH 'N' ASHES
What if a band had heard country and blues but never heard rock? The answer
is Sixteen HP. A prominent Denver band that at least deserves recognition
for origionality. They bring back instruments from the 19th century. No
one does what they do, no one even tries. What they lack in
technicality(cut them some slack, they can play instruments you've never
even seen) they make up for in musical honesty. Great band.

    Feel free to criticize.

    Later,
    Cory

    Message-ID: <199605080301.XAA15259@grex.cyberspace.org>

    Hey,

People have been asking about the Magna Carta Bands a lot lately,
so I thought I'd give some short reviews of the albums I have:

Cairo: '80's progressive sound. Songs are diverse in the way
that they sound and feel, yet still sound like Cairo.
Too many o.k. instrumental jams. Sometimes reminds me
                    of Genesis and sometimes Yes.

Magellan: 3 guys, no drummer. This band is way-awsome in that
they have very interesting, very long songs, three
of which are over 11 mins. However, it is not hard
to see Magellan's influences, for they become their
influences with every key change. On the first track
you'll swear your listening to Styx, then Genesis, then
                    Yes, ......etc. (IMO)

Shadow Gallery: My personal favorite. Sometimes reminds me of Asia.
They have that '80's prog sound, but it doesn't come
across as nostalgic as Cairo. (IMO) the 2nd track
"Crystalline Dream" is one of all-time favorite songs.

World Trade: My least favorite. Sometimes reminding me of a cross
between King's X, boring Yes, and a Joe Satriani tune
that I can't quite place. Don't get me wrong. Their a
good group, just don't listen to it after Shadow Gallery
                    or, say.......Dream Theater.

Enchant: I don't have their album yet, but the stuff on the Trib's
that I have is excellant, especially "Changes" on the Yes
                    tribute.

    Supper's Ready, Genesis Tribute:

This is a good tribute album, one of the better to have
been released within recent years. Mostly, captures the
Peter Gabriel years, which is very cool. A wide variety
of musicians play on this album, not just the Magna Carta
Bands (i.e. Kevin Gilbert, Annie Haslam, Richard Sinclair.)

    Tales From Yesterday, Yes Tribute:

THIS IS A MUST-HAVE!!!!! If you like progressinve rock
and you like Yes, you must own this tribute. Every track
on this album is outstanding. The tracklist speaks for
                    itself:

                            Robert Berry: Roundabout
                           Stanley Snail: Siberian Khatru
Steve Morse: Mood For A Day
                                Magellan: Don't Kill The Whale
Steve Howe & Annie Haslam: Turn Of The Century
                          Shadow Gallery: Release, Release
                             World Trade: Wonderous Stories
Cairo: South Side Of The Skies
                           Patrick Moraz: Soon
                                 Enchant: Changes
                             Peter Banks: Astral Traveler
                             Steve Morse: The Clap
                           Jeronimo Road: Starship Trooper

There is enough energy on this album to light up the universe for
            eternity. I love this album.
