Not much time to post... CD work to be done. Thought I'd drop a
line to say...
GO SEE TWISTER TODAY!! NOW! Save the rest of this Jam for later
and get up and get your keys and drive to the theater and see it. :)
I won't give out any spoilers, but the movie rocked. It was just
great... the effects were seamless, and the story was a worthy effort. At
times, there was a little problem with suspension of belief, but I could
just be a skeptic. About the only thing I thought was ridiculous was what
the main character (Bill)'s girlfriend said to him at the end of the
drive-in movie scene. For the most part, thumbs up.
This film had some incredible cinematography... truly noteworthy.
The writing and arrangement of the scenes was excellent as well, a
tribute to Spielberg's ability. You could actually FEEL the storm coming
from where you sat. The THX/SDDS soundtrack was no slouch.
Especially gratifying was that Van Halen and Tori Amos had among
the few songs from the soundtrack CD that actually made it INTO the movie
itself, instead of being tacked-on at the credits (or ignored!). One
final touch that I loved... Van Halen also wrote the orchestral score. In
most places, it's an orchestral version of "Humans Being" and "Respect
The Wind". I'm sure some actual composer did the arranging for it though.
If you're into DT, chances are you like either VH or Tori Amos,
and here's a good chance to experience something loosely related. :) (DTC)

I think I'm paraphrasing Bob Dylan, but I could be wrong:

still trying to find the right ones."

Hello????
I wasn't trying to change your opinion. You asked if anyone had the new
DMB and I said I did. I then offered my opinion. That was all it was. My
opinion. Some people are a little touchy...
The studio cds of DMB don't give them justice. They are a lot better in
concert. Some may consider DMB alternative, but I think they are more
art-rock. They are pretty good.

Hey gang-
Anybody up in the Lehigh Valley know any details about Musikfest '96?
All I know is that it's Sat Aug 17 thru Sun Aug 25.
I suspect that BF&tF may be there, but ... who the heck are they?
What kind of music do they play? Should I go see them? I know they've
been mentioned here before, and the show's free, so I guess I will!
*PLUG PLUG PLUG*
Everyone within driving distance of Bethlehem, PA should go to
Musikfest!!! It's one of THE BEST music festivals in the country.
There's no admission charge and literally hundreds of concerts by
bands of every type (well, except hard rock). :(
Throw away all preconceived notions and go see a bagpipe band, jazz,
flamenco, Ukranian folk music, barbershop quartet, Broadway, etc.
At the main concert pavillion they get bands/people like REO Speedwagon,
Manhattan Transfer, Ray Charles, Chuck Mangione, Peabo Bryson,
Arlo Guthrie, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Trisha Yearwood, Gordon
Lightfoot, etc. And it's all free!! (Ok, there's a small charge for
the Bach choir and the chamber ensembles; maybe $7-10.)
Last year they set a 9-day attendance record at 1.02 million visitors,
and I think they went thru over 6,000 kegs of beer! (that's not free
either.) *EOP*
Anyway, I'm wondering who's headlining this year.
Any info would be muchly appreciated!
Thanks!

Lt. John!
As a new Jammer, I guess you haven't yet come to appreciate the
many misquoted lyrics of James LaBrie. I didn't come up with the dancing
turtle (I think that one's Bafu's), but it's my personal favorite. Try
these too:
1) On A Change of Seasons- "I was blinded by a pair of dice"
2) On Voices- "Fuck this whore!"
3) On Under a Glass Moon- "Fire baaaaaaaad!"
4) Also on ACOS- "And my son's not so bright"
5) On Lifting Shadows- "Breaking delicate winds"
6) On any random song- "WAAAAAAAHAAAAEEEIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!
Happy listening (please don't kill me).

I am a bassist/lead singer and I quit 3 weeks ago my first and previous
band that I had co-founded and with which I was for 6 years. What's more,
we released an album on CD in January 96. So you can imagine how painful it
was for me to take that decision (not only for me but also considering my
responsability towards the group even if now I think they're just a bunch
of jerks) and how more painful its gonna be for them to find a bassist
(that should be O.K.) AND a singer that sings 1.in tune and 2.wizout zat
bloody vrenge agzent. Good luck to them anyway.

With the recent flurry of Marillion postings (I just got done catching up on 2 weeks of Jam--cut me a bit of slack), I was reminded that I have a spare copy of Marillion's "Script for a Jester's Tear" available.
I originally picked it up because I have found it difficult to get older Marillion for less than import prices here in the US. I'll sell it for US$9, including postage, within the US. E-mail me if interested.

As a matter of fact it is a woman singing with Tate! If any of you have the operation mindcrime box set youll see on the video that it it a very blonde woman who sings with Geoff. Plus, it also says her name in the sleeve of the livecrime cd or the book that comes with it. I cant remember which.

to go along with "sturvival" in UaGM, how about the third line of LtL-- "the sightlessness of hatred slips away"--where james is making stuff up. the sikelessness of hatred tips away. egad, that's bad.
and since no one has picked on our good friend chuck yet, that begins now: 1. LFaGA: and the Jews lose everything. (not really pc, but the boys were still young) 2. OaMoT: the hesitation constipates within the tired man.
once again, these are no dancing turtles, but there can only be so many of those.
as for the replacing band members thread, my response is why? if mike leaves the band (for example) and the band disintegrates because of this, are people who said mike would be the hardest to replace rejoice in glee since they were right? methinks not. we should justprayno one else leaves.
during the guessing period for mike's secret, someone mentioned a studio WDAJU as something we all wanted. now, we all know the chances of this happening are slim and none, and slim just walkedout the door, but what if somehow it got floated out there that fans would be pleased with just a few being rerecorded. this obviously leads to which ones should be rerecorded. we can ditch SS and afterlife for being very mediocre songs. likewise, AFiL and KH can be dropped because a great rendition was given on LatM. so that cuts it down to four. the jam can be excused, if need be, since chuck didn't suck on it. so the three songs to redo in the studio with james and released as b-sides: LFaGA, The Ones..., and OaMoT. now _that_ could conceivably happen, though still not likely.
