Echolyn did break up but are releasing a cd called _When the Sweet Turns Sour_
containing some older stuff they did before they broke up. Its still good stuff tho.
They broke up into two different bands Finneus Gauge and Still. Look for the new
    Echolyn later this month.

    What's up Jammers,

Well, I went to Derek's gig last night! It was real kool! I went with
Jeff Chew, and the only thing that sucked was that the place was so damn
hard to find. We must have passed it about ten times before we finally
found it. It was a very small place. It was basically just a bar with a
little tiny area in the back for the band -- It wasn't what I was
expecting! At first the bar tender wouldn't let us in, but then when we
told him that we knew Derek, he let us -- that was kool! There was no real
set list. They didn't play any ETHYL MERTZ songs. Probably because there
are no EM songs =) It was just a jamming thing. Someone would call out a
song and they would all jam to it. Al Petrelli was ripping on Derek the
whole night! He kept embarrasing him infront of everyone, but it didn't
really seem to bother Derek. They played a few Doobie Bros. songs and a
lot of other blues based songs. Al played guitar will a sigarette in his
hand. I thought that was a kool trick. At the end of the first set, Derek
came and talked to us (Jeff Chew, Mojo man, me, and a few other jammers,
but I can't remember their names). He said that he is going to do more
shows there, but next time he will might bring Portnoy!!! And after that
he might bring Petrucci, and Myung also!!!!!! He told us that Playing at
this gig was so much easier that playing with DT because he doesn't have to
think at all, and he could drink a beer while playing -- It's those
important things in life that you you just don't have time to do when
    you're a member of DT!
Well, that's all I can think of right now! I hope to see some more of you
guys at the next "Derek Sherinian" gig!! See ya'll later!

    Jammers,

Unfortunately, the Savatage warm up shows planned for May 18th and 19th
are NOT going to happen. The clubs that were contacted could not
accomadate them on such short notice.

The other two shows are going to happen. I hope you can catch at least
one of them. These are warm up shows to iron out any problems they may
have before they get to the Dynamo Festival in front of 80,000 fans.
reportedly Savatage will be using former Dream Theater soundman "Vinnie"
during the tour. (Now they just need to find the guy responsible for DT's
    light show ;-).

    So the shows are :

    May 16 Danbury, Conneticut
May 17 at the BirchHill in Old Bridge, NJ

    G.A.S. UPDATE!!!

Due to lack of participation, the first part of the G.A.S. has been
eliminated. We will now concentrate only on the "Top 10 Favorite
Bands/Artists" segment of the survey, which has generated responses from 32
    'jammers to date (5/11/96).
I would greatly appreciate your participation in this, as I find it
interesting to know where the general interest of the YtseJam lies. Top 10
lists (that can include DT) can be E-mailed to:

    syoung@primenet.com

and will be received until May 31st, at 11:59pm. Lists will be tallied and
a non-DT band/artist will be crowned on June 1st (my wife's birthday), and
complete results (ALL bands/artists received and number of votes) will be
posted on or about that day.

    Current Top 5 (non-DT) as of 5/11/96, out of 138 bands/artists received:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------
    1) Rush (19 votes) --> I hear August for their next LP - anyone else?
    2) Queensryche (18)
    3) Fates Warning (13)
    4) Extreme (10)
    5) King's X (9) --> New disc this month, right?

Marillion, Metallica, and Yes are also strong contenders for a spot in the
    Top 5.

20 days left before the deadline - plenty of time - I'd like to shoot for
    100 participants - it's feasible, right?
So, get out and vote, you guys.
    C'mon, it'll be fun!
Muchos thankos to those who have played the game already - you guys rule.

    Steve from Tucson
    syoung@primenet.com

"There's not a man, woman or child alive that doesn't enjoy a lovely
    beverage." - David Letterman

P.S. Of course, James, Mike, Derek, and the Johns are more than welcome to
participate as well. I think it would be of great interest for the 'jammers
to get an idea of what DT is listening to nowadays. Whaddaya say, guys?

P.S.S. To those who were losing sleep over it, Meat Loaf was in fact given
a vote. You may now resume your lives comfortably and in peace. We are
still, however, awaiting the first vote for Wayne Newton - never fear, I'm
    sure someone will come through.

    P.S.S.S. I just came back from seeing Twister - it ruled - don't miss it;
especially all you Van Halen fans (I have five votes for VH, BTW).

If you like harder sounding prog metal, you may want to check out Ivanhoe. I
had heard a couple of recommendations on the jam and decided to go for it. Well
worth it. I got their disk "Symbols" and like it a lot. Pretty good guitar
work, some diverse sounds and intelligently written songs.

Their record company (Avalanche = avalanche@bonaire.com) is having a
buy-one-get-one-free offer this month. The freebe that I got when I ordered was
"Psychedelicatessen" by a band called Threshold. Something like a hypothetical
cross between Triumph (showing my age ??) and Superior.

I am not saying that either of these bands is going to knock DT off their
pedestal, but for $18 postpaid, these two disks are probably worth getting.

And for those thin skinned yet highly opinionated Ytsejammers (98% of you, right
??) who will disagree with me, all of these opinions are posted imho, so dont
publicly flame me for expressing it. If you do, I will kill Warren.

I've been subscribed to the Jam for awhile but I never had much to say and I
still don't. So there. I don't even have a .sig. I never bothered to make
one. Anyway look for me on the #ytsemjam IRC as, you guessed it, Derrick.

PS Think I'll get an EOJ on my first post. (I doubt it.)

PPS Why has the frequency of the Jams decresed so much over the past
couple of days? I miss having my mailbox cluttered with them.

I guess that I'd better do some much needed promotion. I apologize in
    advance for non-DTC.

This year I have been occupying my free time working on the comittee for the
annual Silence the Violence showcase. The point is to recruit highschool
bands to put on a free concert at a local park. This year it is at Clements
Park on June 8th at 4:00 P.M. The bands this year are Ground Floor,
Sylmour, Useless, Orpheus, Idle Mind, and, our esteemed headliners, the
Psychodelic Zombiez. If you live in the Denver area or are planning to be
here on the 8th, show up. Come on, it's free. The Zombiez are probably the
most talented band out here. E-mail me if you have questions.

    Later,
    Cory

    1522

    Ytsejamers,

The last digest that I received was #1522.

Has anyone received anything higher than this (if you are reading this
then I guess you have). If Jams higher than 1522 have been sent out, I
think that it means that I was accidentally unsubscribed--thus I need to
    rescribe!

If that is/was the highest Jam sent--what is wrong?

    Thanks,
    Ryan Benedict
