No, no one told me that. I was wondering about the origins because they
definitely sounded European, and most of the European metal bands that I've
    heard are German. :) And I certainly wasn't expecting Prog-Vocals, I just
think that they should have them, as prog vocals are the best vocal style. :)

I even thought that the lyrics were okay for myth-based, non-english
speakers, (well, Vampiria seemed a bit corny) it's just that the sound
really bugged me. Either they should sing in their native language (the
parts where they don't sing in english sounded okay to me) or they should
get some English vocal coaching, as the emphasis, pronunciation and
enunciation are completely off and really grating on my nerves.

    Greetin's & Salutatin's,

The last Steve Morse Band album, I thought, was not quite up to
the par of his other solo stuff. I hope this new one is better! I've
also been waiting FOREVER to hear his material with Deep Purple.

Is Berndt (of "Superior") Berndt Steidl, by any chance? For
those who don't know, he's a guy who released an album(I think on
Shrapnel) that was lots of superfast Yngwie-style playing, all on an
ACOUSTIC guitar! Rather unique sound to it. Worth hearing if you're
    into neo-classical.

I like all three Maiden singers (there was actually someone else
before Paul Di'Anno, but I forget the name), they all certainly brought
a different sound to the band though.
On that same thread. . .I have never been able to understand how
people like new Van Halen better than the David Lee Roth version.
Their new material does have more of a modern pop rock style to it, but
for me, the music is just far inferior to their older stuff. I think
    Roth brought an incredible sense of FUN to the band which Hagar lacks;
they seem much more serious now, and that edge is gone. Maybe this is
because when Roth left, he was still a partyer and the other guys seemed
to have grown out of it. More power to 'em, but I still have more fun
    with the old tunes.

Again, I ask (for some DT-related content :) ), does anyone know
what's up with Meanstreak? Did they ever put out anything other than
their original CD and the later 4-song demo tape?

            Party on, gang!

Midnight has not done much musically since he left Crimson Glory. However I do know that he will possibly do a three song demo soon ( as of a few weekss ago he was still considering it). I will check up on this status later this week.

After the "Transendence" tour (which ended rather roughly) Ben Jackson and his brother in law Dana Burnell left and formed the band Parish. (Dana is no longer in Parish).

Crimson Glory took on Drumer Ravi Jakhotia and did not refill Ben's guitar position which was a big factor in their new sound on "Strange and Beautiful". ( Hey Mike, I am I going to get that tape back???)

After "Strange and Beautiful" MidNight left/was dismissed and the rest of the band formed "Crush" (beware there is another band other by this name too). The Crush is still alive and well.

As for the Crimson Glory's First CD (the self titled one) I just picked it up on CD two weeks ago. But I had been searching for it off and on for a few years. I think if you ask at an import shop they should be able to get it to you. Or if you (cng@tcco.com) we could probably work out a trade.

A song that I have always thought would be cool at a wedding is the last song on Marty Friedman's Scenes titled "Triumph".

As for a DT song tho be played, hmmm , Space Dye Vest would be cool, maybe Another Day, or possibly Silent Man, ... I got it EVE, that is it Eve!!!

I've been watchin a few of the posts about playing guitar fast vs. slow, and how some people look down on players that use speed a lot. One thing I haven't seen brought up in their defense is the CONTROL issue.

Being a guitar player myself, I have an opinion on the speed issue that I think is important. CONTROL!

If a guitarist is just blurting out scales with tons of speed and no phrasing, then I can see why someone would put them down for playing fast, but in a case like John Petrucci, he is not just playing fast. He is playing with total control even when he is playing his fastest. You don't have to play slow to evoke great feeling in your guitar playing. The "bursts of speed" in his solo's involve PHRASING. Guitar playing is like a spoken language to some of us, and JP has a wide vocabulary :)

Phrasing entails knowing which parts of the solo/scale to build slowly, and which parts to let fly, and at the right times. There is so much feeling in some of JP's fast soloing that I get chills when I listen to it...he's not just flying up and down the fretboard, rather, he builds up to those points of speed and let's it rip only with full control over both hands and all strings. He didn't just decide "ok, I'm gonna play really fast right here"...those parts are there because they FIT, they WORK, and they sound like they're meant to be there. Just like the punchline in a joke. To me, the notes that flow and accent during JP's fast parts are ALL feeling!

i've noticed through both the jam and my time on IRC that some of the jammers have trouble getting DT imports at reasonable prices. well, i bought The Silent Man single and Live at the Marquee at the local record store here in eastern Iowa. if anyone's interested, they could purchase these through me for the same price i paid for them, plus shipping and handling. (i've already got my own copies).

i paid $9.99 for The Silent Man single, and $15.99 for Live at the Marquee. i'm not trying to make any money here, i just wanna do a fellow jammer a favor and hopefully save him/her some money. both cd's are still in the original packaging from the store with the prices and stickers still on them. and of course, they spelled it THEATRE. dorks.

here's the track listings for those who don't know:

The Silent Man 1. The Silent Man 2. Take The Time (demo version) 3. Eve (studio version/non album track)

Live at the Marquee 1. Metropolis 2. A Fortune in Lies 3. Bombay Vindaloo 4. Surrounded 5. Another Hand-The Killing Hand 5. Pull me Under

if you're interested, mail me privately and we'll work out the details. first come, first serve.

    take care. Andrew

You are very modest; the band is great, and I'm looking forward to a West Coast tour. If any of you Jammers are on the fence on purchasing this one, just do it!

Joe Elliot has a few different singing voices, like any vocalist. I heard "When Love & Hate Collide" and "Can't Keep Away From The Flame," two releases from "Vault," which I don't own, but noticed a huge difference in the vocals from the ones on Pyromania, Hysteria, and Adrenalize.

Anyway, what I heard was Joe using a singing voice that I don't think he's ever really gotten into much. Joe has a very deep voice if you've ever heard him speak, but his singing voices are 1) whispery sweetness, like the verses to "Stand Up, Kick Love Into Motion," real soft and quiet, 2) screaming wailer, rivals Sammy Hagar's yowling, heard on any high stuff he does, 3) deep gravelly stuff, like the verses to "Armageddon It." This third voice is what I heard on those two releases from Vault, but it sounded like Joe was suddenly ten years older. It's like he combined the natural low tones of his voice with his melodious higher range.

    Yeah, it sounded good.

Taped-down X's? Those are only used when the band is going to be filmed and the cameras are in fixed positions.

Well there goes the Mojoman putting his foot in his mouth again!!! As some of you have pointed out, I was refering to Bruce Dickinson replacing Paul Dianno for "The Number of th Beast" Album. IM was popular before Bruce, but became huge when he joined, why you ask? Well Adrian Smith finally started writing material in full force. I love the first album and Killers, but TNOTB is awesome. I think that most IM fans will agree that after Adrian Smith left the band they went downhill. Steve Harris writes some great tunes, but Adrian wrote different types of songs to complement Harris, without that, I feel IM got a little stale. Hey Frank, what about one of your favourite bands of all time, Journey? Didn't they thrive after Steve Perry took over lead vocals? I disappointed that you missed that one. One other band that will surely shine with a new singer is The 1994 version of "Pawn Shop". Wouldn't you agree D-Man and Mojo? Not that I was trying, but I've gotten 2 EOJ's in my last three posts, unfortunatly from different addresses.
