    Almost forgot -

This week and next, several of the artists and bands that have been
mentioned here on the 'jam are appearing on late-night shows. At the
risk of plagiarizing (sp?), I will reprint part of the late-show
    schedules below:

    * The Late Show with David Letterman, on CBS *

      Thursday, May 16: Spin Doctors
Friday, May 17: Dave Matthews Band
Friday May 24: Seven Mary Three

    --------------------------------------
    * The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, on NBC *

      Thursday, May 16: Def Leppard
      Friday, May 17: Gin Blossoms

    --------------------------------------
    * Late Night with Conan O'Brien, on NBC *

      Wednesday, May 15: Tori Amos

    --------------------------------------
And last, but probably also least:

    * Howard Stern, on E! *

Friday, May 17: David Lee Roth

(Hopefully, Howard will ask Dave "what the fuck were you thinking?")

So here are your choices -

Wednesday: Tori Amos (no choice, if you can stay up that late)
Thursday: Spin Doctors or Def Leppard
Friday: Gin Blossoms or DMB, or DLR (at a different time, probably)
Friday (5/24): Seven Mary Three or masturbate the old giraffe again
    (easy one)

    Type atcha later,

    Larry

Hey, I'm 16 and that limits the size of my firsts list, but that
shouldn't stop me from joining in on the conversation! Here's my
Pitifully Short Firsts List (c)1996 Daniel McCormack:

    First 8-track: None
    First Vinyl: None
First Tape: Petra, Beat the System*
    First CD: Petra, Beyond Belief*
First DAT: Dub of Bahr's AD
    First MiniDisc: None
    First DCC: None

OK, maybe not so pitifully short... You can add a lot with those
    'None's...

    * Petra is a Christian Rock Group who I was into for a long time right
before DT. I fact, they're basically the reason I first heard of DT -
the singer has a high range, and one christmas my aunt got me I&W
because 'it sounds like Petra.' Needless to say, I DIDN'T like it at
first (all prog rock has to grow on me) but after a while I started
liking it. Oh, yeah, during my 'I guess they're OK' stage DT did a live
chat on Compuserve... I was there, but I didn't really care. I just
asked MP and JM two questions (Are you coming to Puerto Rico on your
next tour, and are there any DT tab books... I got a No for both). I
really kick myself for that... OK, this footnote is getting longer than
    the message... Later all.

Hey, one more thing, I kind of ignored the talk about Superior before, when everyone was asking about the CD, and now that I've D/Led mIRC and Words II and heard the sound clip, I want a CD! I don't remember what the final conlusion was about whether it was possible/practical/econommical to get a Superior CD, but I remember a big fuss about it... Could I find this CD in Specs, for example? If not, with Berndt on the list, shouldn't it be easy to get one anyways? Berndt, can you hook me up wit one of yer awesome CDs? You might want to e-mail me personally (dmc@dreamt.org)...

    Thanks, -That DMC Guy-

    >Just got the Superior CD and it does indeed kick gluteous max (to quote >Geddy). Bernd - you RULE! Great sound you're getting, lotsa balls and >crunch (and as we all know - that's where it's at!)

    Glad you agree.

    >BUT!!??!?!?! - did anyone tell me I was getting a USED CD for my $19? >I don't remember if they did, but this is definitely used! There was >no shrink-wrap; the jewel case is scratched and smudged, the CD itself >had lots of "crap" on it, and even the booklet had stuff on the pages >(did I read something about chocolate???)

    The CD's ARE NOT USED!!!!

They arrive to me without shrink-wrap. We are talking about a small band doing their best to put out their own CD. Shrink-wrapping costs money - and I'd have to pass that on to you. I am actually losing money on each CD sold right now, but it's worth it for me to get this into your hands! The jewel case is scratched because it was shipped with about 40 other CD's all the way from Germany. Things don't always come out the mailbox unscratched.

As I explained to everyone who ordered a CD, the band had enclosed a gift for me of some chocolate candy. This didn't sit too well with our postal systems and the chocolate got all over everything. I spent more than three hours cleaning cases and CD's. As far as I could tell, none of the booklets or artwork were stained and I did my best to make sure every cd was free of "crap". The only alternative I had was to send them back and make everyone wait three more weeks. This would have, in turn, cost the band more money to 'eat' the cd's which was something I didn't want to do. I'm trying to help this band, not hurt them!

As I stated in the letter I enclosed with your CD, if you have a problem with the CD, RETURN IT!

I want as many people as possible to hear this stuff and I have orders waiting.

Like I said, I enclosed a letter with each CD explaining the situation. I wish that I would have been contacted personally instead of making this a public issue.

    (gets off the soapbox...)

Info on ordering Superior is available at:

    http://www.why.net/users/jskewes/jsmusic.html

I urge all of you thinking about ordering this cd to DO IT....!

E-mail me if you have questions.

Hello. Looks like I was very scatter-brained (see got the spelling right finally!) Yes, my fingers were just a flying yesterday on the old keyboard. What I was trying to convey is that I had an idea about Pat's choice of DT tunes to be played at his wedding. I suggested Lifting Shadows Off a Dream.

Sorry about the typo, you can either conclude the following:

Babs was distracted while typing yesterday's note at work.

    Babs was in a hurry.

Babs has fallen off the wagon and just types like a drunk.

Babs needs to get tested for ADD.

I think that it's the last one, since my boss is always recommending that I do that.

To all the Brian's on the list - sorry for the confusion.

    Hi jammers,

I was lucky enough to listen to the 2 new bands signed by Magna Carta and I have to say that one of them will interest the DT fan. ALTURA's "Mercy" album is definitely in the vein of Dream Theater, especially musically. The intros, the solos, the riffs, etc... everything definitely reminds me of DT I&W and Awake. After a few listenngs, it is very enjoyable. It has a little touch of Enchant too. The vocals are high vocals, in the line of La Brie's one, but with less ability (could it have been the contrary?). Really impressive and interesting, even if it is what we can name "the ultimate DT clone". IMO, AURA's "Insights" is also very interesting, but a less than ALTURA. I don't know when these albums will be released, but check them. Magna Carta seems to be in the search of its own DT...

Does someone on the jam know if the JP's video is available in Europe? I have a tri-standard VCR, so I am interested by getting a copy, even if it is a US one. Can somebody buy one for me? I will appreciate a lot, and I could offer a promo compilation cd with 2 tracks of DT (Eve and TLF) to this person (in addition of the price for the video + postage and package, of course!!). Thanks in advance.
