    In Ytsejam 1549, I wrote:

    >BUT!!??!?!?! - did anyone tell me I was getting a USED CD for my $19?

Ooooops! I owe Jason Skewes a public apology ( I already apologized in
private e-mail). In fact, Jason DID explain the "mess" in the CD
packaging, in a letter that I didn't see due to a combination of
exhaustion and excitement, and he in fact spent a lot of time cleaning
the CD's that had chocolate melted on them, due to no fault of his.

I was wrong, the CD's are NOT used, and if I had seen the letter, I
wouldn't have sent that post. (Please note, I didn't mention Jason's
name in that post, and actually I thought that the band itself probably
    packaged and mailed the CD.)

About the CD - I only got to listen to it once, but I am very
impressed! Bernd is an awesome axeman, and the vocalist sounded great,
especially towards the end of the album. I was listening at work, so
couldn't pay attention as much as I would have liked to, but the whole
CD sounds top-notch. If you like DT, (and you do, cause you're on this
    list), GET THIS CD!

Again, Jason, I'm sorry that I missed the letter and posted without
contacting you first (I did try, as I explained in e-mail.)

(Well, OK, it wasn't a tail, and it felt pretty good, so I left it
    there!)

OK, I'm gonna throw in my 1/200th of a sawbuck:

First Concert: 1969, "Blood, Sweat & Tears" with "Chase"
First LP: 1964, Beatles - the one with "Please, Please Me"

    How 'bout some new ones?

First computer: Atari 400 w/ a whopping 16K RAM and membrane keyboard
First guitar: $33 Norma - 3 pickups, pressboard body - pure junk!
                   Matching amp also was $33!
First paying gig: My high school, of course!

Well, to be a little more exact, Terry Kath (I think this is the "first
guy" you mentioned) was not THE lead singer, but one of three.

Chicago (then known as the Chicago Transit Authority) had Robert Lamm,
Peter Cetera (did any of you know that he played bass? - very well,
too), and Terry Kath all singing lead on different songs (probably the
ones they wrote). And of course they harmonized on most other songs,
along with Pankhow (sp?) and Lee (Loughnane(???), the trumpet player).
This was really an amazing band on the first few albums, but they went
    downhill fast (IMHO).

BTW, does anybody know if Terry Kath REALLY killed himself playing
Russian Roulette? That was the story back then.

Does no one read posts all the way to the end anymore? First Bernd points
out how silly it is to talk about speed being the key element in being a
guitarist. That was in my post. Read it.

Now Chris says I'm leaving out the element of style. The last part of my
post on this subject had words that resembled "No mind can replace your
mind." This basically meant that stylistically, everyone is individual and
no musician can "replace" another unless they're just supposed to fill in
on tour and play parts mechanically.

Sebastian Bach is highly respected in the rock world for his vocal style and ability. I've heard he's also very outgoing and likes to meet other bands whenever possible. So it wouldn't surprise me if he were to show up next to James LaBrie, another incredible vocalist, joking about pronunciation like...

Ding! Ding! Ding! Round 537 of our battle between MojoMan and MirthMobile has ended in yet another tie! The judges of tonight's main event have left the arena in sheer boredom. One was heard muttering something about "private e-mail." Another judge has been quoted as saying "What really gets me is that they'll be out at the bar Friday night sharing a laugh over it. I just don't get it."

Doubt it. Seems to me that his job is DT's keysman, and anything else (like the Ethyl gig) is just for kicks with a few buds. No one tours with Alice for kicks, without also getting paid handsomely. (Well, I would, but... oh, you get the point.)

I'd have to disagree here. While they still kick ass, I think the initial point was that most other bands have gone from arenas to clubs with their new singers. This is most definitely the case here. The last Joey tour was an arena tour. I doubt John has seen the inside of an arena, except at hoop games.

Some enlightment from the rec.audio FAQ on CD lengths.

10.33 How much music can you possibly cram into a CD? The longest seen so far (reported by Stuart Kahler) is a MiC bootleg of Depeche Mode "Evolution", at 81:09. Next are | 'No Quarter' by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at 79:38, an | MCA reissue of Steely Dan: Greatest Hits at 79:17 and a Musical Heritage recording of Bach: Goldberg Variations at 79:02. Modern CDs are pressed using tighter track spacing than the first CDs, because modern equipment is capable of holding tighter tolerance than the original machines.

Talking about bands having survived a change of singer, I -thankfully- survived Dominici (Mojo was a bit hard in calling him crap, imo). When I first listened to DT, there was I&W and WDADU in the shop and I went for WDADU. "Afterlife" made me buy this one because at that time I was more into the heavier shit. I could've dropped DT (Mojo'll think I should've anyway, eh?) then, but "Wait for Sleep" glued me I guess forever to them now. Another beautiful song from I&W was Another Day. A pity it didn't get what it deserved as a single either on radio or MTV (beautiful clip, too). Sometimes you wonder where all this comes down to (balls & chunk?)...

Has anyone heard of a band called Elegy? In the case, could you briefly info me?

P.S.: My screen is full of jam; I'm really having a hard time cleaning it up, but its fun.

I spent quite a while in Switzerland looking for "Crimson Glory". The shops I talked to couldn't order it from anywhere (not even Japan; maybe France). I only found it when I spent a few days in London, in a CD megastore. It didn't seem to be a repress, but the original press. If you're really dying for it, I can send you a copy on cassette, but I'd suggest you hook on to the CG mail (I don't know the address: if anyone knows, I'd appreciate, too).

By the way, I'd like to desperately get hold of the "Lonely" CD single and others, if exist. I just love that "Dream Dancer" song. Its my CG fave!

In the IaW tour, he played a Roland JD-800, a Korg DW-8000 and a Korg DSS-1. For the recording of IaW, I think he used a Roland D-50, too (at least another Roland, as you can see in the LiT video). And for Awake, he added a Korg 01/W to his setup (the distorted organ sounds). Don't know what he uses now.
