Got my cd yesterday. Yep there was still remnants of chocolate, so i
washed the jewel case in hot water and it looks brand new.

This cd is of very exceptional quality. Superior is a great band and
this opinion is after only 1 listen. If you like DT, you will like Superior.
What is the address for the Superior news letter?

    BUY SUPERIOR!

    DTC:

I was curious as to what years the DT members attended Berklee? My brother
taught some jazz workshops there in the 80's and I wonder if he may have
    run into them.

Perhaps it's just me, but when I first heard certain keyboard parts during
Light Fuse and Get Away, I thoughy I was listening to ELP. Do they mention
    them as being an influence?

Well, I had to sacrifice my 13 year old Chow Chow 'BEER', but it was
worth it... Afterwards I ate the birthdaycake he was sleeping on...

Ask Rip for the 'BEER on a CAKE' picture when you see him on IRC,
he's got it. And while you're at it... Ask him about the 'Koeien' too !

Sorry, I was just being silly...

Today is a holiday here in Holland... Tommorow I'll be taking my first

I'll be going now. Got some sleep to catch up on... I figured that
4 hours of sleep a day just isn't enough.

Hey, dudes, vot's up? I have a humble request that will prob'ly not do
much good now since so many people have temporarily unsubscribed... I've
been wanting to play SDV w/my band for a while... Finally we're getting
it together... But that piano part is hard for me to transcribe since
I'm mainly a guitarist... I was wondering if any of you keys players on
the jam (damon? no, he unsubbed, didn't he?) have a transcription of the
piano part of SDV? Also, I'd like to include the samples if possible,
cuz the lyrics mean a lot to me, so I was wondering (REALLY doubtful...)
if anyone out there has the samples from SDV w/o the music (like sampled
from the original TV shows or whatever, cuz I doubt anyone's gotten them
from someone in the band...)? Like I said, REALLY doubtful, but if
someone has them, it would really make my day...

    Thanks,

Hey, what's up? I'm pretty angry from the events that transpired today. But enough about me. On with the DTC.

On Wait For Sleep, is Kevin using a synthesizer or a grand piano? The reason I ask is because at the very beginning if you listen VERY closely you can hear something that sounds like Kevin taking his foot off the sustain pedal. The evidence that points towards synthesizers is the strings. However, that could have been done on another track at another time. SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME!!!

It's the best album I've heard in years and the first since I&W that i've like instantly. Every time I listen to it there's a new song I like. The Pantera one is OK, but I'll have to let that sink in, and I'm not too keen on Skunkworks. How do Galactic Cowboys other albums compare with this one?

Remember that ' ytsejam majesty' is somewhat palindromic

Also: 'Rush' (or at least Geddy) helped out on at least one 'Max Webster' song many years ago. It was something about a 'space' or a 'space station'; sorry I don't remember the title, its been a long, long time since I'd heard it.

Okay, The Ancient One will speak. (Just call me Morla. THAT's at least as obscure as Mithrandir's elvish. :))

First 8-track: Boston, BOSTON. It was also my only 8-track ever, and when I was at college we used to play it in the car back and forth to the dining hall . There are worse 8-tracks to get stuck with, trust me. :)

First vinyl: several 45s bought by my uncle, who spoiled us on a trip to Austin back in c. 1980. At least one was proggy (Pink Floyd?), and I remember another was "Lonesome Loser" by Little River Band.

First CD: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK soundtrack. For several months after the introduction of CD technology there weren't a lot of really good CDs available (fewer than 100, it seemed like, FOREVER. :)) This also is a good CD to get stuck in a car listening to, especially during the "Desert Chase" bit. "Martha, check for any Nazis on the roof, there's a dear...."

Currently playing: Ozric Tentacles, ARBORESCENCE, Glass Hammer, PERELANDRA, and Superior, BEHIND.

After all the damn hype and all the positive reviews of this CD everywhere, I was realllly expecting something spectacular, a CD that would end world hunger, stop warfare and terrorism across the globe, generate clean tokamak fusion power and clean my room.....

.....and I can honestly say that this CD delivers on almost every detail! (Well, NOTHING short of a tornado or Mary could clean my room / be my friend... :))

In short, this CD is outstanding. Excellent vocals, tight performances, everything we'd want to see in a CD by DT. Superior is a bit heavier overall, but they certainly have some great, introspective moments with keyboard, etc. I highly recommend this CD for DT fans (we're probably the best single 'target audience' for it, really), and I think fans of Mindcrime-era QR, Savatage etc. would like it too.

Bernd, you NEED to be signed and soon. I'll be playing the CD for friends of mine here who, uh, know people. I'll keep you posted. :)

Well, yea, I did, but we were entirely chaste (on the night before YtseCon II me, Bafu, Trey Allen and Brandon "Stinky G" Ghioto got a hotel room. Two beds, four people.)

Got your attention though, huh? :)

Bafu is remarkably cool in person, but as someone (Skadz? Chris Merlo?) pointed out, he looks almost, but not quite entirely UNLIKE what you'd picture. When we picked him up at his dad's place outside Washington DC, he came from around a corner and we all kinda stared. "Hey, someone replaced the real Bafu crystals with Folger's crystals!"

--But it didn't take too long for Bafu to verify his bonafides -- his sparkling wit in person is at least as sharp as it is online. We ended up sitting in the back seat of Brandon's car for most of the trip and the shuttling about on the Island (and then there was that memorable ride with the inestimable Mike Bahr and Jaison "yea, cool tape in the tape deck" John, which culminated in the remarkable statement "Hey, I think that retaurant we were all supposed to meet at is, uh, GONE!" hehe)

Bafu and I connected at several levels in the obscure-reference department, and it's always cool to be with someone who actually GETS your obscure jokes.... heh (It works much the same way on IRC with us, now.)

So, quick precis: Bafu is really cool, and I was delighted to meet Da Man in person on the trip. Give to the "Get Bafu to YtseCon III Fund." Please, give generously. There are still things up Nawth that he and I haven't collectively rolled our eyes at -- yet. :)

Attention All Planets of the Solar Federation:

If you need to stay in a hotel on Ytsecon weekend, please send me e-mail. Jeff and I are trying to arrive at a definite headcount as to how many hotel guests we should anticipate, so that we can start reserving rooms and such. Please mail me and not Jeff - he's got enough to do already. :) Also, please check the list once more to make sure that I got everything right. I added a lot of these names during finals week, so you never know. :)

YtseCon III Attendees List Name <e-mail address> D/P + x D/P = I'm definite/possible and my x friends are definite/possible. Please check your name, address, and number of people attending for accuracy. Report problems to me, Chris Merlo, at d-man@dreamt.org or cmerlo@cs.uvm.edu.

I will NOT assume that you are or are not going, depending on where you live, or how long you have known me. If you plan to attend YtseCon III, and your name is not on this list, e-mail me and tell me explicitly that you plan to attend.

Also, please remember that I'm not in charge of the Ytsecon. I'm just collecting names. Jeff Chew (jc309@columbia.edu) is the man to ask administrative stuff (like, "When is the Con? Where will it be held?"). As it seems, the Con will be held in New Jersey on Columbus Day weekend, either that Saturday (10/12/96) or Sunday (10/13/96).
