Hey! I just got my ACoS t-shirt from Rocktoys. Very cool. It's got the front cover from ACoS on the front, (the kid), and some Japanese tour dates on the back. It's white otherwise, with long sleeves. Down the right sleeve it says "Dream Theater". Very cool shirt. I think you can E-Mail rocktoys@aol.com for info. They also have the Awake tour shirt.

hey guys i know that this is one of those questions that i _should_ know the answer to but there is nowhere else for me to find one. i was wondering if one of you would be kind enough to explain to be the symbol of the heart with fire and (barbwire?). i have been trying to figure it out on my own but every time i try my brain starts to hurt.
p.s. for what its worth, i have concluded that dt is the type of music that:
1. you fall in love with the first time you hear it 2. makes you laugh your ass of when people fuck up the lyrics 3. has a kickass sound that is unique 4. is played by 5 extrememly talented dudes (who teach, one thing i admire) 5. pisses you off because they are not given as much credit as they deserve 6. gives you goosebumps and other erections 7. will be a leading music trend in about 10 years 8. makes you wonder why its not played more on the radio (this i truly do not understand) 9. has the best fans in the world
and finally
10. it grows on you and becomes the measure of all other music
holy shit
after reading what i just wrote y'all are going to think i am stoned or recovering from a dt drinking game
---well it's just early in the morning and i'm f**cking tired.
and furthermore...
IT'S FUCKING GREAT TO BE A DT FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to order a CD, you can do this at:
jskewes@why.net if you come from the USA or Canada,
basmer@med-rz.uni-sb.de or superior@dreamt.org if you come from somewhere else.
The last ones are also to choose, if you want to have the SUPERIOR - NEWSLETTER. Just email me and I'll put you on the list.
Have you ever heard of a band called WHITE ZOMBIE? Our drummer played them to me yesterday in his car and I just couldn't believe what I heard. Not prog at all but at least they're weird somehow. But I think I like what I heard. :)
I'm looking forward to the new Metallica Album. I liked them from the beginning and I really HOPE that they don't come on and play this alternative crap. I couldn't stand it if one of the last heavy bands would fall under the spell of those short cutted, alternative playing guys. YES, I have long hair and NO I won't cut it just to show that I'm up to date or something. I like my outfit at least because all the old ladies are looking at me as if I came from Mars and that makes me laugh inside every time it happens. :) I just like it.
Enough for now.
Bye.
Bernd.

OK guys, I need some help. I have two lyrics excerpts that I would like to know the band and song of. Can anyone out there help me? No need to reply to the already overly cluttered Ytsejam, so just mail to me personally.
"Day by day, watching you disappear Wishing that you were still here beside me."
All I know is that the above text is from a band that is before Faith no More in the alphabet.
"I think I've gone insane I can't remember my own name"
All I know is that the above text is after Slayer in the alphabet.
Last but not least - and certainly most difficult - is the following. This is a piece of song lyric from a Dutch band. Band name and song name are unknown. Sorry about the actual lyrics themselves, because they are kind of gory and obscene. Nonetheless...can anyone help?
"Pfffffr...oh fucking shit...she's leaking I fuck her while she's leaking."
(No, it isn't Cannibal Corpse!)
Lyrics like these make me ashamed to be Dutch, really they do. But it's all for a good cause (i.e. me winning this competition :-) ).
Sorry for the non-DT content.

I'll be going to the infamous Dynamo Open Air festival in the weekend (photo pass, interview with Venom, and three cool days of metal mayhem including the Galactic Cowboys) and one of the acts is called "Creative with Kirk". They are the band before the Saturday headliner, and I suspect it might be Kirk Hammett with some other members of Metallica. Maybe they'll play the new album for us, or maybe they'll actually play themselves. More news after the weekend, maybe. The new Metallica image is revolting, by the way. Kirk has this huge piercing through his lower lip and black varnish on his fingernails. They're starting to look like the Cure, damn it! The new album had better be a corker.
And, to jump on the bandwagon a bit, here's my firsts...
First LP: Kiss - "Destroyer" (1980) First tape: Never bought tapes First CD: Queensryche - "Operation Mindcrime" (on the same day I bought my CD player, spring 1988). First 8 track: They don't sell that nonsense here in the Netherlands

I agree with the guy who said the Metallica list is run by an idiot. Also, the list is *subscribed to* by idiots. It's so base, so low-to-the-ground, with loads of fucks and shits and all that lark. I have only seen three mailing lists that are in some way up to a good level: SID, NMS and Ytsejam. And the other day I joined the My Dying Bride list and I'm afraid it's as degenerate as the Metallica one. How come rough music is liked by people who have brains the size of peas?

I was boxing up my over 700 cassettes for storage when I came upon a band called DRIVE. It sounds pretty cool - a lot like Crimson Glory. They've got that classic "progressive" vibe and a very operatic vocalist. Unfortunately I don't have the cassette cover and I was wondering if any had any information on them.
Thanks. Oh yeah, Red Wings in seven!

There is one part in "Change of Seasons" that blows me away every time I hear it. John Petrucci switches to this tone that sounds like Joe Satriani's "Surfing...". Can someone tell me how he gets that sound? I've played around with the flanger and compression on my effects unit but it doesn't sound right.
Thanks.

I have only been a Metallica fan since 1988, but I'm quite familiar with all of their stuff. My bottom line opinion is that Bob Rock screwed 'em up and the Black album was a piece of crap. Nowhere have I ever seen a group go from very cool, ballsy and developed songs to 3:30 garbage for MTV. This album was recorded for the very same people who have now adopted Bush as Bible. Talk about a drive-thru release. If the new album is as fast-food oriented as the last one, I will completely reject any notion of musical integrity on the part of Metallica. Pantera and Anthrax continue to carry the flame while Metallica fart around as Jerkapalooza dork-boys.
Go Bulls, go Avalanche (in lieu of the Blackhawks), go White Sox.

I made the mistake of telling my girlfriend, who double majors in flute and voice, that Dt only has 4 musicians. She said, no you mean 5, and I said, no 4, b/c JL only sings. Whoops. No flaming please, b/c IMO JL is my favorite singer, but my girlfriend says that the voice is an instrument. So I said, so everybody is a musician? She said no, b/c not everyone can sing. But who's to say who can sing, right? I worship JL, for example, but my roommate thinks that he sounds like a whiny baby. For another bad example, I said to her what about Death metal singers and their growls, and she said that's not singing so their singers aren't musicians. I say B/S b/c it takes talent to do that (IMO). So my question to the 'jammers (so we can talk about anything other than Metallica) is Are singers musicians? and Are Death Metal singers musicians?

P.S. I hope that this will pick up the Ytse-Posts.

Hiya, Just a couple of things to say. First I bought a few New disks at the recommendation of the jam so I thought I'd review them here.
DEATH: Symbolic-after all the hype about this disk I expected something to cure cancer and premature ejaculation in donkeys-sadly I was VERY dissapointed in this piece of crap. Chucks voice is almost as annoying as Blitz's (Overkill) and his phrasing is bloody 'orrible! I'm just not sure what makes this disk any different than 1,000's of other death metal bands. It just seems so trite and standared. I'm really not a fan of Death metal-I like creative death metal like Sepultura, Korn, Fear Factory. I really hate Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and other crap that is just noise. The musicianship on this disk is pretty good but the songwriting blows and the lyrics are sub-standard. Last Death disk I'll shell out $15 for.
MY DYING BRIDE:- The Angel nand the dark River WOW, and Boy does that singer suck! The music is incredible, the violin/synth is amazing and the keys just rock. This disk may grow on me. My only complaints are the repetivness of the riffs and the singer. He REALLY sucks. He sounds like a punk rock singer like Henry Rollins-Blech!! Music is top notch!
Handful of Rain-Savatage-WOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!1 TOTALLY COOL stuff!!!! Me Gusta Mucho1 Get this disk. The music is top notch. Savatage are at their best with Jon Oliva on keys and Skolnick is just incredible. He is a very tasteful metal player. The vocals are amazing, I especially like the vocals sung in rounds. These guys can fookin play!!!! Really good stuff! I just can't help but think how good Dead Winter Dead would have been had Skolnick stayed on. I really like these guys, and to think I would never have given them a chance because their name sounds like cheesy slayer wanna-bees. Good stuff! I'd kill to see these guys live.
As to Metallica selling out: Maybe they did, but nobody stops going to a successfull doctor or lawyer!
I just Graduated high school and moved directly into sophomore status at college!!!
Cheers!
