Hi. I have purchased the I&W CD, and have this little thing that bothers
me: the first track (_Pull Me Under_) ends too abruptly, as if the last
10 seconds or so of the track were missing. Is this due to a defective
CD (so only my copy is wrong), a defect in factory (so every copy is
    wrong) or is it intentional?

Also: not counting bootlegs and singles (which I'm not interested in), I
know DT has released WDADU, I&W, Awake, and ACOS. Am I missing anything?
    Thanks.

    p.s.: yes, I'm a newbie here.

    Whoa,

Got a letter in the mail yesterday, opened it up, and it was the fan club info from Mr. Neil Elliot. I was just a little surprised. I looked at the envelope it came in and the writing looked familiar. It took me a little while to realize that it was my writing. It was a SASE that I sent in about a year ago. I sent the envelope along with a check and form (that I got at ytsecon I from one of you) last summer. Problem is, they sent another form, saying to send in another check for all the fan club stuff. Now, I'm a little too disorganized to see if they cashed my initial check or not, so I guess I'll just write another one. I guess if it's helping DT out, I'll just keep sending checks. On another note, I finally replaced all my CD's that were stolen from my car. It was fun to see the cashier's face when I put about 16 CD's on the counter. I was impressed that the store had Echoyln and GC's Machine Fish. I pretty much cleared out their DT section. As some of you know, the first time my car was broken into, there was one CD that I couldn't remember I had in there. Well, a little while ago, I had the time to figure it out. It was my SUBCONSCIOUS #42!!!! Needless to say I was a little upset when I figured this out. Mr. Bahr was nice enough to replace my Acoustic Dreams, but I'm sure he can't replace the Subconscious. Maybe I'll get the dub of it, and put it in the Subconscious case. Oh well, nothing I can do about it. -Brian Anderson (currently anderson@frontiernet.net, was bda109@psu.edu)

ok, imho, is it necessary to come up with an entirely new subject matter for a song to be lyrically stimulating. i would have to say not. it would seem to me that if you take that attitude, then ACOS wold almost have to seem mundane and boring. i mean, EVERYBODY almost has written about seizing the day, right? but we don't say that. why? because they have a unique manner of expressing that idea. kind of like when neil peart talks about "cold fire" on counterparts, he says that he had always steered away from love songs until he found a unique perspective on it. while death's lyrics may share common themes with other songs, that does not mean that they are without merit. the key is HOW does it approach those themes and does it do it in a unique way, and the answer in this case, imho, is definitely YES.

    >generation of death metal led by Sepultura, Korn, Fear Factory, Type O >Negative.

type o negative is death metal? i have to disagree. i realize that you said they take elements of it, but even in their earlier days they weren't very much in a death metal direction, and especially not now. just because there are distorted guitars and occasional double bass does not mean you are death metal-oreinted. i mean, our beloved d.t. does those things too.

    >PS if metallica hadn't evolved with the trends since Ride the Lightning >(which was considered a sell-out album even then, we would still be stuck >with such stupid songs as "Hit the Lights" and we never would have heard >the Brilliant Master of Puppets. Metallica has already shown us that they >can thrash like monsters, maybe now they want to see how strong of >songwriters they can be.

this is a damn good point, nd i'm glad someone finally made it. like i said about death in an earlier post: don't question the integrity of someone's music and direction until you actually know the people behind it. so unless all of you know all four members of metallica personally, you're not really in an informed position. it's ok to state your opinion, i'm not denying that. but you're still in the dark.

    >Metallica >--------- >I still listen to "Master of Puppets" and "And Justice For All" somewhat >regularly, I got sick of hearing the songs on the Black album, I heard >the new singer and sorta like it,

new SINGER? huh? you mean SONG, right?

well, enough for now. btw, does anybody have any knowledge of how dt's new album is progressing? just curious...

i just spend two days getting my computer back up... i have devised a rule for all you computer users out there.. DO NOT INSTALL PROGRAMS ON 100% OF YOUR HARD DRIVE, IT WILL MAJORLY FUCK IT UP! :) anyways, weird stuff been happening... i had this dream...

    <dreamy wave music>

ok, me and Dan McCormack (mi vaca hermano) are in this mall, and for some reason Mojoman works in the survailance/lost and found area in this hidden big closet type room, and we go in and hang with mojo... heres the weird thing though, the fact that i dont even fucking know mojo in any way besides his posts... i've never mailed him and weve never talked on irc... nuthin against the dude, just wondering how the hell he ended up in my head... anyways we get on his computer and he's about to send a letter to the jam and he walks out of the room, so me and dan grab the computer and type "BOW TO COWS, COWS RULE!" all over the dudes post and send it... then mojo came back and we just kinda said bye and split, and then i pretty much woke up... man this is pathetic! I'm having dreams about computers and shit! DAMN YOU ALL!!!!!!! :)

hey whats the address for the site thats got ACoS shirts? can someone please gimme it? thanks.

ok one last thing, anyone into candlebox? i just got that new one from some dude for a few dollars and its pretty good. Klett's into a lot of Hendrix and D. Gilmour stuff, just wonderin if anyone else digs it and what they think.

as far as album cover=color of music, yeah, i do that all the time... i always see red when i listen to Iced Earth's Burnt Offerings because theres red artwork everywhere... even though they've got the name Iced Earth... <shrug>

theres probably more to say but i'm fresh out... on with it! ~Rip

*** Reply to note of 05/20/96 14:52 Siners can be musicians. Yes the voice is a musical instrument. The guy who started the thread asked if everyone's a musician because every can sing....WRONG! Everyone CAN'T sing. You're argument would also mean because I own a trombone, I'm a musician. WRONG! I must know how to play the instrument and then.. ...we get back into the other arguement about the other fine points of musicianship (where's Seeger when you need her?). But the simple fact of owning and instrument doesn't make you a musician.

Now, whetehr Death Metal vocalists are musicians is a a can of worms. There are many guitarists who know maybe five chords that have been called musicians. So you then must create your own criteria for acceptable USE of an instrument (voice, guitar, drums, etc.) and how you see it pertaining to musical ability. Death Metal vocalists are good at what they do...their genre. It's too subjective to call, but my opinion is they are less of musicians in the physical sense (vs. theory) than JL, or Pavarotti or Sting or Ella. See what I mean? Lots of death metal, to me, is no tougher than Green Day and I don't repsect them as musicians AT ALL. Next?

If I'm not there, leave a message with a family member and I'll get back to you. In fact, PLEASE CALL. It'll probably be easier fro all of us that way. Thanks. I'll even call you back, if long-distance phone bill is the problem. Thanks

*** Reply to note of 05/21/96 05:03 Chris Oates...you're wrong!!! Metallica didn't open the door for grunge at all!! The Nirvana and Pearl Jam discs came out and were IMMEDIATELY popular in 1990....about 8 months BEFORE the black album cam out (which was in June of 1991). The black album did nothing for anyone! In fact, it was one of the last metal albums to hit the charts really hard before alternative flourished (another late biggie was "Slave to the Grind" by the Skids). The Black album was about nothing but radio play! "Nothing Else Matters" is a crap ballad compared to "Fade to Black".....on all levels. The Black album will be remembered for its radio hits, how many copies it sold and legitimizing a Grammy -- because at least as many people heard that album as people who heard of REM. Corporate rock finally got to measure Metallica.
