    Hello Jammers,

My take on this Rhythm discussion: Some people can feel it, some
cannot, but some musicians without a good feel for rhythm can learn how
play off the rhythm instruments in the band. I wouldn't want a drummer
without a natural feel for rhythm but an instrument playing melody or
harmony should be able to play off the drummer. Personally I have been a
musician for many years and have a good feel for rhythm, though that
doesn't make me a great dancer, except that I know when I mess up.
    <grin>

    Mike

    1 'jam a day? what's this, arastar.com or sumthin'?

well I saw the new Metallica vid today. It's different...cool. It sounds
like Danzig meets Megadeth...meets Metallica of course:) w/ just a teensy
bit of what people call alternative. It's nice to see Metallica play
something in the middle of the dynamic spectrum. b4 all they played was
either totally soft, or totally LOUD, so it's nice to see a change. As far
as the 4-piece drums go, I doubt its Lars current setup. It just seems more
appropriate for that video, that's probably why they did it. And speaking of
the video, WTF? It looks like Jesus Christ Superstar gone wrong. And Kirk
looks like a freak from hell. Was he wearing a hairnet when they show them
playing guitar? Well I have to admit that he used the wah in a cool way on
that solo... not his typical crap...of course it could be James playing that
    so I'll shut up now.

And guess what video came next?

    RROOOOTS!!! BLOODY ROOOOOTSSSS!!!

    Yes!:)

1 week w/ no DT...boy am I a masochist... for some strange reason I'm just
forcing myself not to listen to DT for a while. go figure.
Actually, I have so many new CD's that I decided to only listen to them and
not hear any of the other CD's. That of course includes all my DT CD's.

Of course, I could always buy a *new* I&W so I could hear it :)

Although it be easier to just forget about my will power...

but that would set a bad example for Ibby...right Irene?:)

    later

    "OK...great, OK...listen Bert,uh...how about this one?"(this one,this
one, this one, this one, this one, etc.)

    G.A.S. UPDATE!!!

We are almost through the month of May, and the number of G.A.S.
participants has only reached 80! We've lost a lot of momentum with respect
to the goal of 100 'jammers. For those of you who haven't yet participated,
I would greatly appreciate your joining forces in this, in the little time
we have left, as I find it interesting to know where the general interest
of the YtseJam as a whole lies. Top 10 lists (that can include DT) can be
    E-mailed to:

    syoung@primenet.com

and will be received until May 31st, at 11:59pm. Lists will be tallied and
a non-DT band/artist will be crowned on June 1st (my wife's birthday), and
complete results (ALL bands/artists received and number of votes) will be
posted on or about that day.

*** I STILL need to hear from BOGIE and ADAM COOK - you guys only left me
five bands to work with - help!

*** Also, let's not send in TWO entries, please (Mr. Runde), though, I
    highly appreciate your enthusiasm.

*** I have received two votes for "My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult" -
now, are these two separate bands, or is that really the bands name? I saw
them on "The Crow" soundtrack and I'm assuming that they are two groups
that collaborated on a song, being mistaken for one group with a long name
    - Any Thrill Kill Kult fans out there to support me on this? I really need
    to know.

Current Top 5 (non-DT) as of 5/27/96, out of 80 participants and 262
    bands/artists received:
    1) Queensryche (44 votes)
        Rush (44)
    3) Fates Warning (31)
    4) Metallica (22) -> New CD out in 1 week!!!
    5) Savatage (17) -> First appearance in the Top 5.
        Yes (17)

*** King's X, and Shadow Gallery are also strong contenders for a spot in
the Top 5. Others with 10 or more votes: Tori Amos, Extreme, Galactic
Cowboys, Iron Maiden, Marillion, and Van Halen.

If it wasn't for an entry placed today, QR would have the lead by one vote.

4 days left before the deadline - we're running out of time real fast like
    - We're still shooting for 100 participants and we still lack 20 (five a
    day).
So, get out and vote, you guys.
    C'mon, it'll be fun!

    Howdy,

I am really annoyed at a certain post which appeared in #1583.
It had no content related to music or anything else remotely interesting
to anyone here. You know, the list of someone's activities in Baltimore.
This post was so ridiculously childish it almost melted my pagedown key!
Can we PLEASE try to keep our posts at least related to things people
might want to talk about? Just because we're all insulated from each
other via the Internet doesn't mean we can't try to use a little tact

    Hi there,

Back to work and just trying to catch up with these jams overflowing from
    the jars.

Bought the latest Slayer (sorry for the NDTC). It kicks serious ass. People
find that Slayer is jumping on the punk bandwagon, but I think they're
rather pushing Green Day & Co. off the wrong train!!! However their
unreleased "Gemini" isn't very good material.

DTC: Can anyone tell me how to get hold of the John Myung instructional
video? I've been dreaming about that Metropolis tapping for days, now!! I
heard that the vid is only available in Japan.

Anyone noticed how some fancy signatures get fucked up??!! Is that a mail
    conversion problem??

rythmn is something that you either have or you don't. perhaps someone
with some rythmn could improve with the help of a metronome, but i've never

There's a new CD update ready. E-mail me if you want it.

There's an important piece of info in it. After careful
consideration, the print run for Precious Things has been set at 500. I
explain this more thoroughly in the update, but the short of it is that I
didn't feel that my integrity would be served if I deprived people who
wanted one of the CDs of the chance to own them. I think 500 is a low,
fair print run number that will let all the true fans who are currently
on the list get a chance to have one.

Alas, Scoobacca is on hiatus. Our singer decided to go and get
signed or something like that, and he took our drummer Taz with him.
We're pretty bummed, but those two positions have changed before, so
Johan (guitars) and I (bass) know we can keep on cranking and everything
will turn out for the best with new members. On the up side, the drummer
and singer owed me such an obscene amount of money that I now own their
drum kit, PA system, and all necessary hardware therewithal. I'll hang on
to this stuff for now and see what happens. At least our longtime friend,
soundman, light man, and original (1994ish) drummer Jeremy is sticking
with us as well. To the future, and the great unknown!...

Thanx for the invitation. This'll be my only Metallica post to say that
I've listened to the new single and 2x4. I wouldn't have been bothered
about the change in musical direction (it IS sort of easy-listening stuff)
if I didn't get the impression that the Foursemen have somewhat lost their
writing talent. The songs are just too obvious and don't have any intrigue
to them. I'd be pretty disgusted if Load sells.
Up to now I got every Metallica album, but here the law of series ends. I quit.

Sorry for the NDTC. BTW, the jam is getting more and more out of hand
concerning DTC. I guess it's up to the 5 boys to give us something to talk
    about'em again.

learnt it later??? So if you ain't got it from start, don't even bother
about getting into music??? Please don't generalize from a few negative
    experiences...

Take the example of relative pitch. How many people have I seen (my
guitarist, e.g.) w/o relative pitch but then put themselves to it and...GOT
    IT!!!

I just hope that we musicians who DO have natural sense of rhythm will be
tolerant and patient enough with those who don't and give them (reasonable)
time to progress. The progress of the band should always prevail, but an
"If he can't he never will" attitude is one of outright exclusion
    and...racism.

    Hi all (again)

I don't usually post twice in one day, but something surfaced in what's left of
my brain concerning the new Metallica video (I quite liked it): some people have
said that Lars must have sold out/be playing alternative because he only used
a small kit in the video. Well, it's like the size of your dick (male jammers
only) - it's not what you've got, it's how you use it. Being hung like a donkey
doesn't automatically make you a sensitive lover (am I right girls?).

    stay safe and happy listening
