Hey Mike (and whoever else wants to know),

NAPALM DEATH IS COOL!!! Pick it up. It is nothing like Dream Theater,
but I can see how JP and JL could appreciate it! They are like the
pioneers of Death metal and they are still very popular. They started
out with just 1:30 songs to blast your ear off. Now they are much more
complex and the lyrics are IMO very well written. They challenge you and
make you think. The lyricist growls; I don't know if you're into that
kind of thing. Try "Fear, Emptiness, Despair" first and let me know how
    that goes.

To all the people that flame rap and call Relativity Records "sell-outs"
I think need to relax a bit. IMO Steve Vai and musicians are more
talented than rappers (only because they play their own music themselves),
but (IMHO) to rap it takes a lot of skill. If you don't
believe it, try it yourself. No, not "Roses are red" bullshit, something
that is going to appeal to the masses. M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice days
are over. Relativity probably wants to make $, sorry, rap is more
popular than progressive; a LOT more. Rappers nowadays kick hard beats with
hard rhymes that make you say "WOW." Why do you think that MP likes rap,
being a drummer and all? He probably can appreciate how they take a
groove and go with it nicely. Rappers also have to produce, or they'll fade
fast. It's a very challenging market. Everybody wants everyone to open their
minds to DT but I think their are some people here on the 'jam that need to
open their minds first before they can expect others to do the same.

All IMHO of course, but I wouldn't mind going further with this.

If anyone has any scanned photos of the band that they would like published
in the fanzine, let me know. I don't have a decoder, so I can't view
anything sent through the Net (sorry, Tim!) and I won't have access to
Netscape until I go back to school in August, so I can't download any off
pages (I won't go anywhere near the Web with AOL's browser), but if any of
you are willing to save some to a floppy and mail them to me, I will be MOST
grateful. All credit will be given...

While I'm thinking of it... I will have a home page up in August or September
on my school's server. It's actually 95% done; it just needs to be updated,
zipped, and given to a professor to put on the server. Obviously there's
going to be a DT section, and if you want your page linked, send me your URL
so I can tag it. :)

OK, here's the Reader's Digest version:

    1) WDADU was the first ever release by Dream Theater. 2) I&W was the first *major label* release by Dream Theater, but actually their second release. 3) Anything else you need to know is in the FAQ. :)

Nonono. Heresy is to contradict the words of a god. Bafu's just a fucking idiot. :)

    > But, I don't know where you got DT saying that they've never heard of > Iron Maiden. I remember reading an article with John Petrucci in > some guitar magazine. The article was where they played songs for a > guest guitarist, and the person talked about it.

I think it was a joke. If I remember correctly, Bafu said something like "and they'd never cover a Maiden song," which they did (Killers) on the HftH tour.

Jaime The Dragon enquired to song titles for the new material

well, new songs completed with vocals and finished titles are:

Raise The Knife Where Are You Now Take Away My Pain

Anna Lee You Or Me Metropolis Pt.2 (under construction)

3 other songs are completed instrumentally, with one further song (making a grand total of 10), due to be written. Running time with the 9 songs is up to 80 mins, so the 10th and final could push it around 90m. And NO, it will NOT be a double CD! So, there will have to be some omissions, or editing when recording time comes around, or bonus tracks somewhere! We will have to wait and see.

Well, let's see what we can cook up here:

Ingredients: 1 whole Microeconomics, deboned 1/2 can Macroeconomics 1 tsp. Financial Accounting powder 1 dash Statistics 2 Calculuses (Calculii?), minced 1 pinch of Law (a little bit goes a long way) 3 drops Marketing

Directions: Put all ingredients in large bowl and stir until Microeconomics is well covered. Cook over a large fire until black. And, oh my, it's the Unified Field Theory! :) :)

Hello from nice-weather-idiot-drivers MD, 1. Mithrandir (who is not a Red Wing, or a bird for that matter) Did I spell it right? Ok, so the Wings lost. What was I supposed to do? Give in? What kind of fan would I have been? I am past denial already. I just feel fed up with watching pro sports for now. Too draining. I'll be ready by NFL season...GO PACKERS! (See part one of .sig for another perennial loser I back. Uh, it's tough not being a fair-weather fan. 2. Flotsam and Jetsam Since I was dubbed "Flotsam and Jetsam King" long ago in the arastar version of this list, I feel the need to once again sing the praises of "Drift" which is probably available cheap nowadays. Very underrated record. I just hope they sold enough to stick around... 3. DC highways and roads have potholes. Big potholes. 4. Parking Garages have the license to steal, sort of like Mortgage Companies. 5. Pick a Window, Because Now You're Leaving... Or coming, in the case of some foul list members. 6. Nothing remotely related to DT in this post. So sorry for you hard-core DT-only people. -- Kevin (kwmadden@usa.pipeline.com) GO PACKERS...GO WINGS (RIP)!!! (Hey, Favre, keep off the pills, eh?)

I can tell by your(CNG@tcco.com) list that you definately are a shredder of the worst kind! Why the hell do you put Yngve Malmsten (yes, that's his real name) on the top of your list??!! Are you kidding me? "Yngwie" is one BIG swedish (yes, I hate to say it!) joke. We are ashamed of this guy here in Sweden. Enough of this shit. Now, what I really want to reveal is MY Top-ten list. Remember, this is THE ULTIMATE LIST. These guys are good, shredders or not.

Name Motivation ----------------------------------------------------- 1 - Robben Ford This guy rocks! He combines feeling and technique in a remarkable way. He knows how to play blues, fusion, rock, you name it! Simply the best guitarist today!

2 - John Petrucci Need I say more.... Our own John Player Special. Fast as hell, ultra-tight, plus he has the ability to make you stare live.

3 - Scott Henderson Noone beats this guy when it comes to fusion. Check out his work with Gary Willis in all Tribal Tech records. You won't be dissapointed!

4 - Steve Vai I know lotsa people hate this guy, but you gotta admire his technique. Combine this with a little feeling and this guy could rock the hell out of anyone.

5 - Joe Satriani Sounds good everytime you hear him. Isn't a speed freak, knows when to slow down.

6 - Steve Morse Hehe. Well, is there more to say about Steve? He knows how to write a good fusion tune. He might not be as complicated as Scott Henderson, but he can rock a fusion tune as noone else. 7 - Pat Metheny The best clean guitarist out there. Plays jazz-fusion without ever going distorted.

8 - Eric Clapton He has the feeling. That's enough.

9 - Pelle Lindh Never heard of him? Probably not. This is my private instructor. I always laugh when I come to my lessons, he is TOO good at everything from old blues riffs to 8 finger tapping. He knows ALL theory. Nice guy too.

10 - Steve Webb This is probably a new guy for you. He is playing with a bassist who is a friend of mine in the band "Steve Webb & the difference". He knows how to play the blues. (I beat him in Tetris!)

Well, that was all I had to come up with for now. If you have any objections or questions, please mail about it.

I'm trying to start a poll about the best guitarists out there, so if you can just mail me and put ONE guitarists name in the SUBJECT, I will see who really is the favourite ytsejam-guitarist.
