To the guy that wants to know if Wadadu is worth it: Some of their best
stuff is on there man! (ok a little bit of their best stuff) It rocks.

Neil Elliot! come on spill the beans! I'm tearing my hair out here!
(actually I'm not but how would know that unless I told you?)

Check out the TSO page on the winternet sight. It's cool. I'm so stoked
about it, I'm off to buy the dang thing right now!

Yeah, i remember hanging out at the local bowling alley eons ago
blowing my wad on Castlevania. That was the game. However, nothing
beats the old Atari 2600. Burgertime, Defender, and all those
classics. MAN!!!! I think I'll have to break it out now (and we do
    still have ours).

Okay, sorry about the useless post. I'm bored. Cheers.

Yea cool! whenever I hear Kill 'em All I immediately think of Battletoads.

I played Metroid so much that the cartridge wore out so I had to buy it
again in the classics version for like 20 bucks. I still think Dragon
Warrior is the coolest though. Or maybe Ikari Warriors or Contra. Oh well
PC's are so much better now that I should probably just get rid of it.

In fact how bout I put it up for sale right now!

Sega Genesis with tons of games (probably 10-20)

NES with tons of games (I'm not sure but quite a few)

I thought that I had heard it all regarding Rush's position on the
tribute, but this latest bit is an exceptional surprise. To me, it's akin
to name calling almost, and has had a tangible impact on my attitude
towards them. We're all familiar with the core issues of the tribute:
They're only for dead bands, no one asked them for their (Rush's) input,
they think it's all for the money etc. But his bar band thing is an
    entirely different slant.
So from my point of view, as a Rush fan and a contributer to Working
Man, I have no qualms on a personal level as to his comments: that
any of the lesser-known groups (like Cynic of course) are considered to be
bar bands (as I am equally confident NP has never even heard of Cynic or
several of the other bands on the cd). Of course, to consider the well
known artists on the cd in the same category is ridiculous. So
let it be known that the foundation of my gripe is not a personal one, nor
do I have any delusions as to the audience size of Cynic. (Just happy a
few of you bought the cd and came to the shows...)
So what I am left with is a purely malevolant reaction from NP. I
can't imagine that anyone in their shoes would be upset that a group of
players got together to honor them. Granted, I agree that there are some
less than perfect performances, in fact I think some are downright
embarrassing from a "should have done your homework" point of view. But
that isn't really what's in question.
Money has been a topic of debate. For starters, YES, there are people
making money off of this disc. However, do you honestly think that Rush
(who are getting the publishing $ by the way) could be so upset as to lost
revenue from a tribute cd that has a very limited lifespan compared to any
of their own releases, that it would cause them to be this disagreeable
towards the tribute? That doesn't make sense to me.
The "They didn't want it done, so it shouldn't have been done"
argument. This is a tough one for sure, we've all heard about approvals
and recantations and the facts are nebulous. But even if they hated it all
the way (which I don't think is true) I would argue that 1. It could not
have a significant financial impact on the group. 2. That its existance in
any way would indicate the mortality of the band. 3. That regardless of
all these things, the true spirit of the tribute is to honor them, not to
try and bilk them for a few measly dollars, or ride on their coattails.
Ultimately it is their new cd's that you will continue to buy.
I am not convinced that the tribute has or can in any way, damage the
reputation or selling power of the band itself. So, I defer to Neil, why
    the hostility?

                    NO DT CONTENT HERE...........................

I was lucky enough to see the last G3 show saturday night in
Minneapolis. I had high expectations before the show began and I left
with ringing ears, a huge headache and my jaw dragging on the ground. If
you have yet to purchase Steve Vai's FIRE GARDEN or Eric Johnson's VENUS
ISLE do it as soon as you can. The show was incredible. To top it off,
one of the announcers at the show said that they were recording for the
"official" G3 album that night. They are probably recording most of the
shows, but it gave the audience a reason to cheer even louder. Vai and
Johnson were unbelieveable. My brother and I agreed that Johnson stole
the show. The concert was also being filmed so hopefully there will be a
    video available in the future.
Adrian Legg opened the show at 8pm and I didn't get back to my car until
12:30 am!! Talk about the best $40 you can spend.
Vai played a variety of material including:
            The house is on fire
            Little Alligator
I think he also played a few others off the new album. He also played:
            Bad Horsie
            Tender Surrender
            Answers
            The Riddle (I think)
For The Love Of God (which brought down the house!)

    I don't remember everything about Johnson's set-he played 3 or 4 new tunes:
            Pavillion
            Manhattan
Camel's night out (he got a standing o afterwards)
            S.R.V.
and some others including Cliffs Of Dover of course.
Great show-Satriani was good too, especiall with Stu Hamm on bass...too
bad you all couldn't be there....

In any case..working man is getting rush a wider audience.. for many people
(including myself and a couple of friends of mine hadnt actually had the
guts to buy a rush album but we bought Working Man for the other bands..and
for a "starter" point to listening to rush..and now were buying Rush
records..to get the original versions.. the trib is only gonna get them MORE
sales.. like i doubt anyone is going to hear any of the working man songs
and say "rush sucks..ive decided i dont wanna check out original rush
records" ...as my brother said.. some of us prefer the working man versions
as to the original ones.. maybe because of geddy's voice..or because of the
mastering compared to the 70's and 80's...but the fact is ..that the band
    isnt gonna suffer from this..

If you have web access go to the TSO Web page at

There is a really good review there. If you don't have web access I will

It's definitely worth picking up, especially since you can pick up the
rereleased version which is cheaper than the import I bought a couple of
years ago. As for the vocals: just go into it with an open mind. I came to
the weird conclusion the other day that for the _WD&DU_ tracks, Charlie's
voice is quite good. I don't really care for James's treatment of "The
Killing Hand" & "Fortune in Lies", because he gets to "heavy metal" with it
(if you know what I mean). Charlie's voice was more controlled maybe? On
the other hand, I can't really see him hitting the high stuff at the end of
"Metropolis" like James does. Maybe whoever writes the vocal lines just did
a good job wrting them to the abilities of either singer? Ah hell, who
    knows? :)

I just have to agree with Chris Ptacek about Vai, I don't think Chris
said where he saw G3 but I saw them at the Palace Thursday night and Vai was
amazing to watch... I've never seen anyone have so much fun on stage. He
easily stole the show, it just went downhill from there. Not to take anything
away from Joe, but I've seen him before and he seemed really off thursday
night. He completely screwed up my favorite part of Surfing, I was a little
shocked actually. As far as EJ, I have only heard a little bit of him before
the concert, not enough to be fair really, but I wasn't that impressed. He's
a technically amazing player, but compared to Steve and Joe's set there were
very little dynamics, just on guitar and one guitar tone the whole way through
(I'm generalizing a little... don't bother flaming me if you think I'm wrong,
these were just my first impressions anyway), and I also have to agree that he
has NO stage presence. He just looked at his guitar the whole time.
My only complaint with Vai's set was the setlist... he didn't play
the Audience is Listening, I Would Love to, or Greasy Kid's Stuff, which aree
my favorite off of Passion and Warfare. For the Love of God was absolutely
    amazing, tho...

Heheh, I love the soundtrack for Final Fantasy III. There are a
couple of tracks on the thing that I actually sat down at the keys
and twinkled out. I actually considered writing a general Final
Fantasy Theme Song from various parts of the game. To me, all of the
role-playing games seem to have some sort of prog tracks to them.
Maybe that's why I play 'em so much. Just thinking about the Zelda
theme gets it stuck in my head for days! Dahhhh!!! Dah-da-da Da da

Let's find something better to talk about now, Hmmm?
BTW, there's a $20 Arcade Game pack with authentic remakes of 5 of my
fave arcade games. Defender, Defender II, Sinistar, Joust, Robotron,
and then there's Bubbles, which I never liked. Get it, it's worth
    it. :)

How can you forget Savatage's "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)"? Or for
that matter, go pick up the new Christmas album that's been talked about
here (which happens to have "Christmas Eve" on it, too).

I Believe in Father Christmas was on Works, Volume 2. Also try these:
    - The Christmas Album by Keith Emerson
    - On the Time Vaults CD by Van der Graaf Generator, there is a VERY short
segment of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
    - Jethro Tull had quite a few: Christmas Song on Living in the Past, Ring
Out Solstice Bells on Songs from the Woods, Batteries not Included on "A",
Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow & March the Mad Scientist on 20 Years of
Jethro Tull Volume One, and Another Christmas Song on Rock Island.
    - Six O'Clck News/Silent Night by Simon & Garfunkel is poignant. Not prog,
but hey, it's a Christmas special and this song IS special.
    - Winter by Tori Amos is remotely related.
    - Snowbound by the big G. is the only thing that spring to mind.

            I'll check out some more...
