At least put some Sav or TSO on there. I'd have you play a song I wrote called "Nuclear Winter" but I'm still finishing it up. It's also and new agey, Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 type song, too. It's not a spin-off of an old Christmas song, it's more of a dark winter song to give you the chills type song.

Definitely some TSO! IbnzRG570 aka Mr. Chuckalupugus

I know Tye O Negative isn't very prog, but the new one is amazing and it has Red Water(Christmas Mourning) on it. A little somber coming after something like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or what ever, but it might break things up a little while still keeping in theme.

You're right about James "metallizing" those tunes, especially near the end of The Killing Hand. But you know, despite how silly it seems, I really enjoy it. The funny thing about my enjoyment of it, is that I've gotten away from Metal and Prog for a while, and when I started digging DT, they were as close to Metal as I'd get. But now, my Metal-years have been rekindled, and James' metallizing is welcomed by me.

I post these lists, Rick, because these bands have little or no exposure here in the states and I am VERY proud of the fact that at least I'm trying to help them out and DO SOMETHING about it by letting listeners (and other Jammers) know about 'em... I try to play DT once in a while (If you've been reading any of my setlists at all), but I have so many other bands I'd rather promote instead of DT...I'm sure some would love it if I played DT straight for 2 hours..well, I wouldn't..It would be boring So I guess my postings in the future should contain a fraction of DTC in order to rationalize the use of bandwidth?? Thats bullshit..because right now, nothing much is going on except for people giving a friggin update every goddamn second that they got their Birch Hill Tickets and how they want to string up Neil Peart. WOW..thats just so fascinating!! Tell ya what..next time..I'll just throw in a song for good measure so as not to offend anyone (yeah right!) Sorry for flippin' out..but my fucking eyes shot out of my skull when I read that!!!!

Here is my DTC: WDADU is ten times more complex (and better) than AWAKE (and thats the truth)

Before anybody thinks about making a long and eloquent speech to make evident their ignorance as did our fellow Jammer, Chris Ptacek <sp?>, I would like to make known my personal definition of the word shred.

Shred- (v) to absolutely kick ass on a musical instrument, in a way that is distinctive, beautiful, and tasteful.

Chris, don't flame me for saying that Adrian Legg shreds. And he is not country. The guy is british, and it's FOLK music. And his albums are just as good. I can drive 115 on the freeway with him in my disc player same as Satch, Vai, or DT.

    Greetings, Ytsejammers (tm)....

    Brandon <belhai1@gl.umbc.edu> says:

    >Hey jammers...I got a quick question on KX: >I have noticed that some other guy sings some of the songs besides Doug. >Am I right in this? For instance, he does vocals for "lies in the >sand", "life going by", and "legal kill." Is this another band member or >is it really Doug?

Unless I'm way off the mark, it's probably Ty Tabor. I don't think Doug's voice could sound as different as it does in those songs, as well as several others (I can think of at least three on "Faith Hope Love" offhand).

DT content: Okay, okay, everybody! I get the message: WDADU is worth picking up. Soon. Sorry for not knowing better! :)

Seriously, though, thanks for the considered opinions. Now I just need to find a store that sells it...(I went looking in the store where I saw it a couple days ago and it's gone now). Figures....

    Cheers, Phil

Well thank you very much Mr. BUTTRAM. Maybe if you'd stuck around a while you'd find out that this newsletter is much like a Dream Theater album at times...after a while you really start to pick up on the hidden treasures.

If it wasn't for the occassional bursts of really relative information I get from my friends here on the 'jam, I would have never met Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci this summer. If it wasn't for the Ytsejam and the fans here that make it happen, I would not have my autographed limited edition copy of "WDATU". Finally, if it wasn't for the 'jam, I may not have known that there even existed such a tight brotherhood (and sisterhood) of devoted fans such as myself out there, who continue to promote and support DT together in an effort to keep real music like DT alive.

There is a lot more to this little "organization" than meets the eye, and we're not here to cater to you. As with any other mailing list, we have our share of meaningless babble, but when it comes right down to it this is a home for some of us real DT fans. So Mr. BUTTRAM, thank you for unsubscribing and taking your negative input with you.

Damn, if I'd read that interview from Neil before tickets went on sale for the Atlanta Rush show, I'd have skipped it. As it is, I can't scalp them since they're Ticketmaster first-pulls (our convention is, uh, a TM client :)). Damn. Oh, well, I'll go, but if I see him riding his bike downtown, he'll get an earful.

    ..and sparrows like breadcrumbs

    Hi all

more random bits and pieces from the cess-pit of my mind that may or may not have been inspired by stuff appearing on the Jam lately.

It's nice to see the pro-Pearters and the anti-Pearters going for each others jugulars like two pit-bull terriers. This is what prog/metal is all about, folks: pay me a tribute and I'll kick you in the balls.

The title of the new Dream Theater album will have a literary twist to it. The working title is 'Godot', because we've been waiting long enough for it. But what's all the fuss about anyway? When the name of the new My Dying Bride album was announced on their mailing list, there were posts from hundreds of people creaming their y-fronts because they now knew the title - big deal (for your information, the My Dying Bride list is even more full of shit than our beloved Jam, but like the Jam, it sometimes contains some great music tips). Oh, and for those of you who don't know who Godot is, I suggest going to your local library and looking it up - at least it will stop some of you playing dumb Nintendo games all day.

I finally managed to find a CD dealer who was able to order the Lemur Voice album for me (it should be here by Friday). While I was in the shop, I picked up two CDs that could be of interest to some of you.

    Neil's CD Tips: Chapter 23

The 3rd And The Mortal - Tears Laid In Earth

A must for anybody who likes the last album 'Painting On Glass'. Recorded with the old singer, this is music that just flows and oozes from the speakers, carrying you with it, leaving you contented and peaceful when it has finished. How come most of the good bands in this genre are Scandinavian (how about an answer, Mape?).

    Vanden Plas - AcCult

Released in France in April, this album is now available on general release. Another fine effort by one of the best up-and-coming bands in Germany, this acoustic album contains reworkings of three of their own tracks plus covers of other stuff including 'Kayleigh' (Marillion) and 'Spanish Rain' (Saigon Kick). Definately worth listening to.

That's nearly all for today folks, except a little snippet of wisdom for all you American jammers who will be voting today: every country gets the government it deserves.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Memento Mori - Le Danse Macabre

Only thing I can say is that I'm probably in the club with him. I don't like Shadow Gallery either, though I haven't heard the other bands mentioned. If they're like Shadow Gallery in some way, I don't wanna hear about them. :-) Technical, yes. Well-done, yes. Dull, yes. Prowess isn't everything.

And besides, you don't have to throw the goddamn stupid imho-acronyms everywhere just to make clear that you said what you meant. Isn't it obvious that it's solely your opinion if you post something? Blah.

I don't feel I'm a close-minded buttfuck only because I don't like some bands that are praised here on the Jam. Is it a crime? Or is good taste not relative anymore?

    Hi jammers !

I decided not to translate the whole Kev interview into English, but to do a short summary. Since the interview was translated into German first, it wouldn't be the exact words that Kevin used. Here it goes:

    #################################################################

    * About his departure from DT: The decision to leave DT wasn't an easy one for Kevin. It was a shock for the rest of the band, but he was convinced that it was the best for DT's music as well as his own.

    * About the style of his music: He calls it "Keyboard-oriented semi-progressive Rock".

    * About a record deal: Some Japanese record company was interested in Kevin's music, but they wanted to see a fixed line-up, and above all, a solo guitarist. Since there won't be any lead breaks in his songs, Kevin decided to do everything on his own.

    * About his fellow musicians: He named three guys who will play on his record. - Jason Anderson (Guitar) - Joey Vera (Bass) - Mark Zonder (Drums)

    * About the recording work: This should be done by the end of october.

    * About the new album: It will first be distributed in the US, later on in Europe. It should be available in spring 1997.

    ##################################################################

That's pretty much it. To repeat it again: the full interview (in German) can be found in the November issue of the "Rock Hard" magazine. There's also a picture of Kevin with short hair. Sorry people, before you ask: I can't scan it now, maybe later.

    Take care, LoneWolf.
