    Hey:

I've heard a lot of people talking about this band, but I can't get
it through Dream Disc according to their catalog. Can someone e mail me a
way to find this album, as well as a list of some of the must have foriegn
prog bands? I'm running out of cds to buy!!!!

    Thanks and sorry to spam.

This is my first posting mas grande since subscribing a little while
ago. I have a few tidbits of information. I saw somebody mention a
King's X snippit on the radio. Here in the central valley of California,
there's DT abound! It's like a silent revolution here. My drummer and I
have single handledly (well, I guess we've four hands among us) converted
grunge fans to prog fans (but the STILL won't give up Nirvana and Bush).
If anybody lives in the Sacramento area, have you heard on the Sacramento
King's sports show with Grant Napier (at 6:00, strangely enough) that the
intro is the entire beginning of DT's "6:00", including the
SAAAWWWWEEETTTT Portnoy opening octabon-tom fill? Also the local radion
station seems to break out the 'Theater for small plugs of their own station.
Just thought I'd get that out---Sanguine Surroundings is trying here!!!

Hi, again all scandinavian jammers, and in Estonia.

As you know I am putting a little Net together among us scandinavians. To
reduce postages, make ordering easier, have DT-chat in our language, keep us
informed about DT-related news, perhaps join before concerts, and so on.

So if you want to join just give me an E-mail.

Our first mission is to join the DT-International Fan Club. To reduce the
postage I will send in all our requests, and that I will do right after the
upcoming weekend, the 11'th of November, to be sure of getting that special
    christmas-gift.

If you'd like to join for this, just deposit around 130 SEK into my
    bank-account in Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken;
    Account number: 17 5670-00 063 25
Then you send me an E-mail with your exact deposit and I will sort you all
out. You should also put your complete name and address in the E-mail.
I give you my word that I'm trustworthy

    Ok! That's all folks

    Hi, (minimal DTC)

I am sorry about the attitude of the Buttram gentleman and I agree
    entirely with Chris Ptacek;
    >There has been some DT content as these new shows and clinics
    >have popped up, but overall I think we're a great little group.

I have enjoyed many great aspects of the jam, including the DT
content, but I have had really great benefit from the general
discussion, the tape swap (thanks Bill, Aaron, Mark and soon
Chris P. and Neil G.), and the referrals to other great bands!
I have even got a friend to subscribe (hi Todd!).

Concerning non-DT discussion about other bands; all of the bands
I have bought that were recommended on the jam have been
excellent discoveries (I am spending alot of money!).

There is a band that I have only seen mentioned once in passing
and I thought I would describe briefly. Hopefully others will
comment for/against and all the jammers can get a more
broad opinion. BLACK JESTER are an Italian progressive metal
band that write and sing in English. Their sound is based in the
style of some of the giants of Italian progressive rock
from the past (PFM, Biglietto Per L'Inferno, Le Orme) but with
a 90's metal edge that ranks up there with DT. The songs are
complex and often long with heavy, crunchy guitar and excellent
keyboards (not overdone). Lyrics are mystical and the singer,
while fine IMO, is quite heavily accented and slurs a little.
First album is called "Diary of a Blind Angel" and the second
"Welcome To The Moonlight Circus" is now released in the
USA on Avalanche Records (check out their website). The second
album contains an English remake of Le Orme's classic song
"Glance Toward The Sky" which is magnificent - the whole album
is worth this song but the rest is awesome IMHO.

I hope that their US release is going to be a success and I could
not think of a better way to promote a great prog metal band that
is not a DT clone (they were formed in 1986) but would probably
appeal to the open-minded DT fans on the jam. (all flames from the
    narrow-minded fans to kdonnelly@vines.colostate.edu).

Thanks for listening. Keep the jam just the way it is!

    Kevin D.

p.s. Another band on Avalanche Records that I would like to
hear some opinions please - AIRBORNE. Anyone?

PC's are so much better now that I should probably just get rid of it.

Mike Portnoy will be appearing at the drum expo this Saturday in Dallas, TX
at the RICHARDSON high school auditorium. The flyer lists the times from
10am - 8pm so it'll be an all day jam fest. A couple of jammers asked me
    to
find out the exact location and give directions since they will be driving
    in
from out of town, so don't jump on me for this :) :)

Address is 1250 W. Beltline at COIT. Directions are to get onto the North
loop of 635 and take COIT North... Keep going and when you approach
Beltline, the Richardson high school auditorium will be on the LEFT side of
the road. It's real big and ya can't miss it.

    Drummers appearing:

Wow. Geez, what dictionary did that come from? Last time I checked, the
only *real* definition of "shred" had something to do with cheese.
Listen, pal, the last thing we need right now is people calling each
other ignorant. That being said, I'm going to anyway. You're an
ignorant, conceited, pompous asshole, who thinks the words "my personal
definition" somehow equate to papal infallibility, and anyone that
disagrees will rot in hell. Music is SUBJECTIVE. If I want to say that
the Presidents of the USA "shred," don't tell me I'm wrong simply because
you think you've devised a more clever connotation for the word. Hell, I
could say that Enya "shreds" and mean something entirely different from
    saying that Stu Hamm "shreds."

    Lighten up.

Yes, it appears a bit ugly, doesn't it? All I can say is that I'm proud to be riding the fence on this one. I still love their music, and still plan to attend the show in Boston this Saturday, and enjoy it as much as any other Rush show. I still hold Alex, Neil, and Geddy in the highest admiration for writing my favorite music ever.

But I hope I never meet them.

LOL! Hmm... I'm sniffing the cork, I'm swishing it around in the glass... I dunno. I guess it will grow on me. Then again, I think about what the mighty Edward Van Halen once said. "Who cares what it's called? Call it 'Mustard On Your Leg' for all I care. Hey, here's our new album. It's called 'Yogurt.'" What's in a name, anyway? I'm just dying to hear the tunes.

It's supposed to be, unless you're using one of those High Holy Ytsejam Definitions like "shred"(tm). Unless Gary Wehrkamp can re-tune his keyboards mid-song, from what I can tell, then he does not officially "shred"(tm). Sorry, Gary, talk to Nick about it. Ain't my rules.

    > I don't feel I'm a close-minded buttfuck only because I don't like > some bands that are praised here on the Jam. Is it a crime? Or is > good taste not relative anymore?

Good taste is *not* relative anymore. See above. If someone (especially a prog rock boy) says that something is good, especially if it "shreds"(tm), then you have to get on your knees and BELIEVE that it is good. We all must worship Adrian Legg, and Shadow Gallery, and Tori Amos. Not because they're talented, or they write stuff that effects us, but because other Jammers say so. Where you been, anyway?

(DISCLAIMER: I happen to like all those bands, regardless of what others think. I also happen to like PUSA, Enya, and Stu Hamm, regardless of what others think.)

    I can appreciate this effort.

    > I try to play DT once in a while (If you've been reading any of my >setlists at all),....

For the record, I read every Jam entirely.

    >....but I have so many other bands I'd rather promote instead of DT...

I'm sure you do. It just caught me as strange, and still does, that out of *20* (count 'em, folks....TWENTY) tunes, you decided not to allot a single slot to DT. Yes, you have in past setlists, but my initial reaction to seeing a Prog radio setlist on the Jam is to expect one.....or two ;-) selections by DT.

    >I'm sure some would love it if I played DT straight for >2 hours..well, I wouldn't..It would be boring

That's not the issue. And yes, it would be boring for people unfamiliar with DT. Small doses, as opposed to zero doses.

    > So I guess my postings in the future should contain a fraction of >DTC in order to rationalize the use of bandwidth??

Um.....no. No one else does, so why should you? :-) You are very proud of your setlists, it seems, and the slightest comment has made you distrought. I'd simply think that the pride you display would be something more along the lines of, "Hey, Jammer-pals, look at my cool radio setlist, and not only am I giving some exposure to our beloved DT, but also some other cool bands you might like to check out!" Which is why I asked if I was the only one who thought it to be odd that DT had been omitted from your setlist. Instead, I was answered with hostility.

I must admit, though, that my fault is that I sometimes forget that there is more to life than listening to DT, (as can be seen in my academic performance (bummer)). And I forget that although we here on the Jam share a common interest, the intensity of the interest varies across all the members of this "club". Perhaps I'm a proverbial "DT cocksucker", to quote the "deceased" Mojoman. With this said, maybe you can understand the motivation behind my query. However, you, Carlo, need not be so brash in your reply.

    >That's bullshit..because right now, nothing much is going on except for people >giving a friggin update every goddamn second that they got their Birch >Hill Tickets and how they want to string up Neil Peart.

I agree with you on that one. But I'm not one to complain.....much. :-)

    >Tell ya what..next time..I'll just throw in a song for good measure >so as not to offend anyone (yeah right!)

No offense was taken. Just left me perplexed. Simple as that.

    >Here is my DTC: WDADU is ten times more complex (and better) than >AWAKE (and that's the truth)

    If you say so. __________________________________________________________________________

Here's my DTC: Has the topic of John Myung and his use of bass pedals been discussed here yet? I really get a kick out of how prominent in the mix those pedals are on Fortune In Lies on LiT. And only recently, while wearing headphones, did I notice them on TSM. Way to go!

    Hey Guys

    Greetings from England!

Well its Bonfire Night over here tonight and i'm afraid i'll be looking at the Guy on top of the Bonfire burning away tonight and i'll be seeing Mr. Neil Peart there. I love Rush, for me from AFTK to HYF they were IMHO untouchable, but that doesnt take away the fact that if the "Bar Band" comment was true then my opinion of Mr.Peart (already lowering thru reading the Rush Mailing List and his reactions to fans meeting him in the flesh) is hitting rock bottom. I'm sorry Neil you may be a great drummer but your attitude SUCKs major. I happen to be playing Working Man more than TFE (i'm sure i'm not the only one) - perhaps that is part of your problem - you make GOOD records these days instead of GREAT records and the quality of material on WM shows this up. In any case I happen to prefer some of the WM versions (AK,LVS, NS) to the originals so Ner, ner, ner ner ner to you Mr.Peart - grow up - how old are you? These guys worship you and all you do is slap them down!

I also say to all the Ytsemoaners complaining about this mailing list - I'm on two others - Freaks and The National Midnight Star - and the Ytsejam is by FAR the most interesting- Freaks is dull and TNMS - well virtually everyone on this list cannot stand any criticism of Rush in any way or of any sort and some of the WM "reviews" - quote - "... There's definitely a missing bassline from the start of Analog Kid..." etc are downright childish - nobody or nothing is beyond constructive criticism - not even DT (yikes - have I just written that??!!)

I think its a case of not knowing what youve got until its gone - I remember the deathly silence after the release of WDADU - there was absolutely nothing written about DT until I saw a small piece in a magazine in 1992 announcing the release of I&W - 3 years of "Ytse-silence"! no chance of that happening now - Long live the Ytsejam mailing list!!!!!

Thanks to this list and readers of it I have discovered Superior, Lemur Voice, Yanni, Angra etc - none of whom I would have had the faintest idea about if I hadn't been on this list - Thanks Guys!

I liked the thread about the 80's music - that was a great decade - the best Rush, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Anthrax etc. I even pulled out "Seventh Son.." by Maiden ( a band who I have neglected since DT came around) and was quickly reminded why this is IMHO one of the greatest records of all time - Its really quite "Progressive" too dont you think?? - but then I was reminded why I fell out of love with Maiden when in a fervour I put on "NPFTD" and "FOTD" - really average albums compared with what had gone before IMHO. But I saw "The X Factor" in my local library last night and having avoided the album like the plague after hearing the single "Man on the Edge" I finally decided to give it a chance - and its really quite GOOD - far better than the last 2 albums IMHO.

My library are also ordering "Premonition" by Tony Macalpine for me - they had "Freedom to Fly" in stock which i borrowed which I have to say is the most dissapointing album by him for me because he seemed to have lost his Classical influences on this CD. But he is back to his best on "Evolution" - I know on this list there is a lot of talk about Vai, Satriani etc but for me Macalpine writes the best guitar instrumentals - his playing is Brilliant. Why is his CD - "Violent Machines" only available thru his Web page and not being released ?? Don't tell me he's been dropped aswell?? The cover of this CD on his Web page says he has to me - it looks awful cheap. What a waste of talent.

Thanks for your time (Notice an abundance of "IMHO" in this text - just in case my taste has offended anyone!!(sorry!))

Will someone please reveal the DT album title - even if they have to do it crossword style! - so that officially they havent told us!!! but we might be able to guess - HINT, Hint Mike Bahr!!!!(Pretty please!)
