    Ok guys,
I previously said I'd like to leave at 2pm. It has been pointed out
gently to me that this is a bit ridiculous. I had no idea of the time needed
and thus erred on the side of cautious. Here it is revised.

Subject says it all, in the spirit of YtseCommunity(tm), I am offering
rides to the 12/4, 12/6 and 12/14 shows. For all of the shows I plan on
leaving the area(NYC/LI) whenever is best so that we can get where we are
going with time to spare and hang out for a while.
I have room for three people in the YtseTaxi(tm) for each show(hey,
it's a Honda). Send me e-mail and we can work out the details.

    Dave G. here again (#2)

I may have missed something REALLY important, but last I heard John
'Trucc (JP for those that don't follow my band member contractions) was
doing something for SEGA or something. Speaking of cool video game music
anyway... does anybody know what or when that is???

P.S. Dave Sabo (Skid Schmoe) did some work on the NASCAR CD-ROM.....IT
SUX!!! But as the great comedian Dennis Miller hath quoted: "Of course,
that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Words that are pronounced in such a way to *imitate* the sound they
represent. *Hiss* is a commonly used example. *Sucks* also comes to mind.

Since *shred(ding)* is under current discussion, it is also a good example

    OK, I'm gonna post now . . .

Thank YOU, Chris - but I haven't even started yet!

Hey - keep Dole off this list, please. ;^)

"Dribble he used to spout"!! You can't spout dribble - dribble is, by definition, uh, dribbled out of the mouth (or orifice of your choice). If it's spouted, then it becomes, uh, spew. (I think maybe you meant "drivel".)

Then Randy and Chuck had a little exchange:

Wait a minute - are we talking about Rush Limbaugh or Rush the band? I happen to like Rush because _they_ are truthfull, too. However, I happen to hate Rush because he is a Big Fat Idiot (hey, maybe I'll write a book). Anyway, are you guys on the same page?

Gotta go - jeez, 'Jam 1995 gave me a headache - just like the year

Trojan was a great game. I spent way too many hours playing video games. Anyone remember Rygar, that game took my friends and I months to figure out.

    >Yeah..those were awesome..nothing beats CASTLEVANIA though!!! Remember >how fucking hard it was to time it right so that you jumped through >Dracula's fireballs but had to whip out the boomerang in mid-air!

Section Z was such a pain in the ass, we would just keep going and going and then we would choose the wrong gate and wind up back at the beginning. Metroid...dont get me started on that one. Chambers #################### Araby@ix.netcom.com

Yes, they're from Brazil and they're excellent!!!! 'Angels Cry' (1993) is a mix of melodic, progressive, and speed metal. with great high-pitched vocals. 'Holy Land' (1996) is somewhat more mature, emotional, progressive metal.

The vocalist (on some songs) reminds me of MIDNIGHT (Crimson Glory) when he sings 'normaly' (not high). Also the songs at times contain Classical music, I heard that the singer is a classical pianist, he's replacing SUPERIOR's keyboardist in Europe, on tour.

Get ANGRA, you won't be disappointed. It'll keep you busy until next summer(damn!) when DT's new one is out.

You know the drill you if you trade and don't want to get ripped off read this but if you want to get ripped off, hey have fun, and skip this.

New Member!!!! WOOHOO!!! DrMosh will forever be known as baaad trader. It seems he has tried to escape me by changing his email address. But don't worry I'll track him down. Because sometime last week he emailed the 'jam, and said that he was starting up a tape tree. If you have that 'jam please email it to me or tell me what digest it was in because I trashed it by accident. Oh, the dear doctor has gone for about year without giving someone their QR vid. But cashed her check very quickly!

    Old members are...

*Al Balkewicz(who says he is going to complete the trade after almost 2 years!)

*Jermey Haynes aka Sue Moscardini(is this person still on the jam?)

*CD Cellar adversities about stuff they don't have in stock(anyone have the email address for them?).

If there are _any_ mistakes about these people or if you disagree with what I have here PLEASE email ME(not the jam!).

Okay now I know you people want others to learn from your mistakes and not get ripped off by the same guy. Well heres what ya do! 1) Give me the person's a. name b. email address c. real address 2)Tell me what the problem was. 3)Tell me where you met the person(the ytsejam, a.m.d-t.) and if you know where they hang out at(any other newsgroups, mailing lists, or even chat rooms).

After seeing how DrMosh escaped me. I've been really mad. I really hate to see someone outsmart me! So, if any has seen him around tell me!

Oh yeah I will by the end of the week have some more names! Thanks Olaf!

Does anyone have any idea of who all is playing at the ALS benefit for Jason Becker. I have tix but am not sure who all will be there except for EVH. Are any jammers planning on attending this? Corey

I have several CDs from these bands.

    Threshold ---------

I have both Wounded Land and Psychedelicatessen (sp?). They are both on Avalanche Records here in the US and can be ordered by nearly any record store.

The albums have different singers but you may not notice unless you have good ears or read the liner notes. Their styles are similar.

The tone of the lead guitarist is very similar to the tone of the lead guitarist for Shadow Gallery.

I think I read somewhere on the 'net that this band is a prog metal "supergroup" made up of previous members of other prog rock/metal bands. The musicianship on both albums is fantastic. The music and vocals can be described as melodic. Wounded Land is sort of a concept album stressing man's destruction of the earth through war and environmental disasters. I have figured out Psychedelicatessen yet.

This band opened for Dream Theater on their European tour for Awake. These performances are apparently captured on a live album titled Livedelica, which I do not have.

    I would recommend them highly.

    Ivanhoe -------

I have both Symbols of Time and Visions and Reality. Like Threshold, they are both on Avalanche Records here in the US and can be ordered by nearly any record store.

This band made a big splash in the jam some time ago. Many jammers proclaimed them progressive metal gods following closely in the footsteps of Dream Theater. I purchased both albums with great expectations and was quickly disappointed.

The musicianship is fantastic. The production is muddy. The vocals can be down-right annoying. Charlie Dominici would be an improvement for this band.

I wondered how a "signed" band like Ivanhoe can have such low production quality, while an "unsigned" (at the time), self-produced band like Superior has absolutely crystalline production. Maybe Superior should produce Ivanhoe's next album.

I would only recommend them to someone who can tune out the vocals and crappy production and focus on the music.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Angra -----

This is a Brazilian group whose music I have seen classified as both "progressive metal" and "power metal". Power metal I think is metal that is high-quality music, non-sexual lyrics, without time changes and progressive metal is the same with time changes. Angra is clearly "light" on progressiveness as defined by time changes.

They are however an excellent band. I have Holy Land. It is one of the best albums I have ever bought. I listen to it quite a bit. They are not generally sold in stores that I have shopped in, but maybe Columbus OH just doesn't have any good import stores. All the albums have been released in Europe and Japan. I paid $30 bucks for Holy Land which included a rather lack-luster "bonus" track.

These guys are fabulous musicians. The lead singer is very comparable to Tate and Labrie. I happen to like him better than both. His singing style is very melodic.

There is a song on the album titled "Carolina IV" which is THE best progressive metal song I have ever heard. (IMHO for all you nit-pickers).

Although this is probably heresy on this list, I would recommend this band higher than any other band ever discussed on this list, including Dream Theater. (Obviously, for all you Eldritch, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, et al worshippers out there, this only includes bands whose CDs I own.)

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Iced Earth ----------

I bought Burnt Offerings from this band, completely blind. No recommendations, no sound samples, just a mention on someone's web page. When I first played the CD, my reaction was - this is crap, I am going to chuck it out the window. It was like death metal, complete with chunking guitars and growling vocals.

I then went home and listened to the CD again with headphones on so as not to expose my small children to this. I was astonished. These were fantastic musicians with extremely well-thought out and thought-provoking lyrics. Once you get past the initial death metal impression, it was quite good. Very much like early Metallica, but with musicianship.

The CD includes a really heavy, really good epic song based on Dante's Inferno that is the best epic song I've heard other than ACOS and older Rush. The double bass drumming in this song will kick your ass.

I have also bought Night of the Stormrider and Dark Saga. Night of the Stormrider reminds me of a modern Judas Priest circa Sad Wings of Destiny - vocals, music, and lyrics. I would love to hear this band cover Island of Domination. Dark Saga is dark and its a saga. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It's based on some comic book or something called Spawn which is about some dude who sells his soul to the devil in order to avenge his unfaithful girlfriend and her lover or something like that. Lyrics include the lines:

"I'll beat you with your spinal cord Split your skull in two I'll feast on your intestines There's nothing I can't do I'll rip your heart out of your chest Watch it beat as you cry I revel in your agony I violate and make you die"

I can see this band being a hot topic among record-burning, bible-thumping fundamentalists at many a teenage revival.

The musicianship on this record is also very good. These guys are apparently very popular in Europe. Like Angra, the progressiveness of this band is "light"

I would recommend caution in purchasing CDs by this band. Sound samples can be found on the net at the following URLs:
