YTSE by itself doesn't mean jack shit.

YTSEJAM is MAJESTY (DT's original name) backwards.

    Hey jammers,

this may be a sort of strange question, but if anyone knows please let me
know. Is anyone in the band very religious??? I have all of DT's albums,
and there seems to be many refrences about God, heaven and Christanity, but
I could be mistaken. Please let me know if you have an answer.

    thanx,
    steve

There has been talk of Public Enemy on the list lately. The album upon which
"Bring the Noise" was originally found would be titled, "It Takes a Nation
of Millions to Hold Us Back." And you thought I only knew metal... The
"drummer get wicked" is from a song called "Wicked Drummer" which I believe
was on a different, earlier cd. Don't have it; can't remember the title. Rap
constitutes less then one percent of my 800+
    cds.

    /me ducks for gloating.

As for Mike Mangini, who can believe he used to be in that shitty metal band
Annihilator? They really sucked except for one cd, "Alice in Hell," which
wasn't all that good, either. They have been called Canada's answer to
Metallica, but if that's your answer, stick to hockey. No offense to the
    Canadians (Rick, Bat, etc)

Beavis failed to mention during his ode to IRC that I was the trivia king.
    All hail.
    You can get up now...

So, how come we can have an educated discussion about these three artists,
but whenever anyone mentions Yngwie Malmsteen, people go ballistic? Is it
his attitude? Can't we discuss his playing without ignoring his ego? Would
somebody who plays guitar (I don't) please write a quick Yngwie overview, on
his playing, style, strengths & weaknesses?

I have wrestled with the pros and cons of this for a while now. I learned to
play with my thumb over the top, except when fretting barre chords. I believe
that with the thumb on top, your hand is in a much better position for
applying strong, accurate bends. I believe I play with a much better "feel"
when playing this way. Then someone introduced me to legato playing, and I
realized that I couldn't play legato very well unless I pulled my thumb down
to the back of the neck. I had to almost relearn the way I fret notes, and am
still improving upon it. The moral of the story is, I can get by playing both
ways now, and I think it's worthwhile to give it some practice. There are
positive aspects to each style. Note: Eddie Van Halen plays both ways also,
if that means anything. He needs to pull his thumb down for some of his
wide-interval stuff, but he plays solid, dripping-with-feeling lines with that
    thumb on top..

Yngwie Malmsteen used to rule in the 80's ..but he's been stuck there
since...i mean he has been doing the same stuff for years and years..his
last releases ,magnun opus and such are kinda boring.. and even thou he is
extremely fast (and especially with that strat with the high strings) John
is much more inovative and into the 90's ... at least this is all IMO..
Yngwie is great...but hes kinda stuck in the 80's

I'd hate to tell ya, but you could practice 24/7 and still screw up every
    now and then.

You're way outta line here. You state this on the Ytsejam where everyday
recommendations cause someone to put their faith in the fellow jammer and
buy something BEFORE listening to it.

hehe cool I used to be in a band called Pipe Dream. We don't use it
anymore, so if anybody is looking for a swell band name...

    >Someone I spoke to at the show thought Vai "relied too heavily on the
    >whammy bar,"

If anyone has ever seen JP play live we all know that he uses it quite
extensively too. I don't see anything wrong with that. Why limit
yourself? It's like those grunge bands (Nirvana) that make their drummer
use a 5-7 piece kit, because they don't want to sound "Complicated."

I would agree that JP is better than all of them, and I'm a big fan of
those 3. As far as Yngwie being better than any of the previous 4, I would
say no. Remember, there's more to playing than seeing how many notes you
    can play per second.

    Jammers,

Just wanted to let you know (in case you haven't heard).

The TSO video for Christmas Eve / Sarajevo12-24 is almost completed. It
will be delivered to MTV on Monday (11/18). They should start playing it
around Christmas time, or sooner if there is some requests for it.

If you haven't yet entered the guitar give away contest, do so soon. The
last day for that will be 12/15/96. The URL is

Or just some very well-read person. I mean, Sting isn't a psychologist,
yet he said many, many people went on to read Jung after he wrote such
songs as "Synchronicity." I just think that there's some bright,
knowledge thirsty guys in DT. I don't know if you were around for the
dissection of "Pull Me Under" as referenced to "Hamlet," and Mike Bahr's
later attempt to compared "1,001 Arabian Nights" to "The Silent Man."
(Watch Mike get hit by explanations for this one! ;) ) There's just a

Does anyone know if there is a way to download the new kick-ass
RealAudio files of JP on the mesa/boogie web site? I'm able to
play them online but I'd like to save a copy to be able to play
later on when I'm off line. I tried the old "Left click ->
Save this link as..." trick but that didn't do it. It seems like
it just saved a shortcut to that file.

Does anyone know what these clips are from? HIs upcoming Sega game?

Anyone think we should start a petition and send it to BIrch HIll
or DT's management or Old Bridge's Fire Marshall and beg them not
to pack the place to 4 times its capacity? What a nightmare that
    was last year...

Does anyone have any high quality Rush video boots from the new
tour? I'd love to get one. Especially if there are any of the
US Air arena show circulating already.

    See ya!
