Heheh. Nope. I'm from Idaho. We only played about 4 gigs
altogether. 2 HS talent shows and 2 parties that got busted. We
sucked bad back then. That's before we liked DT and were into the
    Nirvana/Grunge thing.

Do we consider this a good or bad remark? heheh...

    1. Kirk Hammett - He shreds, what can you say? He was taught by our
                                man Satch was he not?
    2. Eddie Van Halen - He shreds. Eddie's self taught ain't he?
That's what I heard, but I've been proven to
have alot of lousy sources of information.
    3. Vito Bratta (White Lion) - He shreds, I guess (The only song that
I remember is When the Children Cry)

My personal fave non-top shredder guitarist is Neal Schon. I know
everone's gonna go, "Who?" I dunno. He plays with the greatest band
of all time, for now, until the next DT album. (Journey)

Alright guys, I don't play any instruments, but I consider myself to be a
time signature freak. In other words, I'm always trying to figure out
the time signatures in all the songs I hear. Well, I have a few
questions you could probably help me out with:

What are the time signatures for these pieces of these songs?
    - the solo part of LSOAD
    - the beggining of Ytsejam
    - the end of Scarred

Any insights on these will be appreciated. Thank you for shedding some
    light on my ignorance! Bye.

Dude, DT is available all across Australia, in most capital cities.
If your friend needs a hand let me know. I can get all their
official release stuff in Canberra, off the shelf.

As far as wacky band names go:

LTF was my first: 'louder than fuck'
    1D1L1V mt second: 1 dream 1 life 1 vision
    Rhythmic Orgasim my third.
And my four is currently un-named and we are open to suggestion, and
    a guitarist.

for more sick band names..............i was in a band called "some assembly
required." i also did two "side projects" (as "side" as you can get in high
school) called the sinking tugboats, and down with the ship.

the p.e. album with "nation" is of course, "it takes a nation of millions to
hold us back." but i still think "fear of a black planet" is their immortal
album. find it, listen to it, and love it.

well, as a friend of mine who's played the axe for 15 years likes to
say, Malmsteen is a guy who "blows his wad in 5 minutes". meaning,
in 5 minutes, you've heard all that he is. he has incredible speed

they'd play my Perfect Album Side a few weeks ago? Well, I got the message
below back from one of the deejays, and it's gonna play tomorrow night
(notice, the Dream Theater is SPECIFICALLY mentioned to be played.). Along
with DT, I requested Pantera, COC, Megadeth, Led Zep, Rush (something like
that anyway..). COOL EH!??! I wonder what cds/tickets I'm gonna win for
    this.

All hail the mighty Beavis now. BOW BEFORE MY BUNGHOLE!!!

That's pretty good. :) I once saw one of the many bands that gigged under the moniker "Free Beer and Chicken," and they weren't half bad.

However, I have been in some bands with *bad* names, thought of a few more, and have been friends with people in bands with some bad names.

I wasn't trying to say that Yngwie was the best or anything, In my own opinion that will always be JP. I just thought he was good for his time, especially if you like exhibitionism on stage. He was a pretty showy kind of guy. As for mellow stuff, he did a pretty good job on the star spangled banner. But the others are indeed better. On another note. Does anyone here know what that pendant is that Kevin Moore is wearing on the IaW photo? Iv'e been trying to figure it out, but I can't tell. It's not on the FAQ that I've seen, maybe not a worthy question? Someones gotta know. anyway,

    1. "Ear Candy" - King's X 2. "Test For Echo" - Rush 3. "Venus Isle" - Eric Johnson 4. "Load" - Metallica 5. "Trial by Fire" - Journey

The list consists of CDs with new material. I left out "best of" and "live" CDs with old material on it. This also excludes all of the Mike Bahr CDs (Which are all superb!)

    No wonder... :)

Anyone ever notice that the sillier your band's name, the more albums you sell? Take bands like Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery, Enchant, etc... Names with alot of imagery and such all in one name don't get that much exposure. But groups named after various household appliances and items from the various food groups tend to get more exposure. So, if you want to garner more exposure for your bands... Take names like Doorknob, Blender, Hormel(tm), Oscar Meyer(tm), Toaster, Urinal, Shower Head, Dripping Faucets, etc.

We were actually tempted to name our band Crowbar and were pissed when we found out it was taken.

Yeah, I was in a joke band once called, yep, you guessed it, Free Beer. Other monikers that were used at various times in my musical ventures are: Full Eclipse (cheesy name, but none of us could think of anything better, nor did we really care), Plastic Cabbies (started off as Plastic Cab Drivers, but we shortened it. The singer was too dang good-looking to contradict her ideas, hehe :), and Perpendicular Sanhedrin (that one was a joke thing, too). Another guy and I also stole Wyld Stallyns from Bill & Ted for a talent show (we were the only ones cut from the audition, but the audition was more than worth it, hehe... ). That's about it up until now. I've had some great ideas in the past, but I can't remember any off hand.

I just sent my check in for the DTIFC yesterday. WOO HOO!!!!!

No. Telepathy isn't presently a widespread transferring-medium of ideas. Photographs are. You can't transfer thoughts and memories to other people by thinking at them, so no one's worried if you "watch" or "listen to" a performance. A photograph can be copied, distributed, etc. The person(s) who created the music you heard at a show and were born with the faces you saw and who gained legal ownership of the clothing they were wearing by exchanging American currency for the apparel...CAN'T trust you not to spread your memories around if they're in a physical medium that can be duplicated. I don't believe they fear people making money and surviving as productive members of the economy, I think they fear losing ideas that were introduced To You, By Them.

As for simply SPEAKING to relay past events, that can never be stifled unless the Constitution is done away with.

    > There are other businesses that allow me to create mementos of my visit > for personal, non-commerical use.

What businesses did you have in mind?

Anyway, to begin with, in my opinion everyone owns themselves. They own their facial features and mannerisms. For you to photograph someone without asking their permission is, in my intrepidly humble opinion, immoral. I ALWAYS ask before I take someone's picture. Try photographing someone at random on a bus or city street, you'll probably get yelled at, you might even get chased or attacked. It's universally intolerable, it's just not something people generally "accept," perhaps because of vanity. As for a performer on a stage, I can't think of anything that would make photography suddenly "acceptable" short of the performer actually saying "hey guys, photography is allowed at this show. Snap away."

As for auditory mementos, the same rules apply to recording someone else's voice/exosonically-produced music without their permission. If there's a roving videocamera at a convention of Dream Theater fanatics, hey great, I guess we all know each other so why not? But If I'm performing/playing original music and you're recording it, I'm going to get pissed off, especially if I don't have the music written on sheets of tablature with patents processed in my name regarding their possession and use.

If I'm just playing through Paganini's Caprice #24, I'm not going to get upset if you're recording it, unless Paganini's attorneys are hanging around. But if it's a series of notes I put together and decided to, by way of The Government, attain the actual "possesion" of, I wouldn't appreciate the thought of someone watching the videocassette or listening to the audiocassette and repeating my possession for themselves with their guitar or other instrument, even if it IS in the privacy of their own home. I would have gone through a great deal of work to make the music "my own," from the writing to the playing to the protecting, and I know Dream Theater has had their share of shit over the last decade, enough to warrant John Petrucci getting annoyed with bootlegs. I respect his opinion on this subject because he's the one playing the music.

Did you know Warner Brothers owns the melody we refer to as "Happy Birthday?" If you sing it aloud and someone from Warner Brothers hears you and is really bored and wants to damage your simple pleasure they can take your birthday-loving ass to court.

Just random stuff to think about. I don't care if you record me playing my guitar, and I disapprove of anyone thinking they can own sound waves, but I also understand why some folks discourage the creation and distribution of bootlegs. If I ever write a gigantic symphony piece, I'll copyright it. Otherwise my simple riffs aren't much more than rearrangements of the perpetual puzzle-pieces that make up the musical cosmos...
