    Whoever keeps sending the WIN>DAT crap, don't post anymore until you can
    figure out how your mail system works. That crap is really getting annoying.
    People have fixed it before so will someone tell whoever how to do it
    since he can't seem to do it himself?

    Sorry about the ranting...

    I've just download two Real Audio files on the NET about songs like Raise The
    Knife. The problem is that I'm not able to listen to them. My computer says
    that he can't decode the files. What do I need for that and where can I find
    it.

            Another qeustion I was wondering about is: where can we find a
    version of Eve with lyrics on it? I've search for it, but it's worhtless.
    Can anobody tell me about this one too. I saw the lyrics in the Songbook,
    but I'd like to hear it with those.

         Slainte fellow jammers!!

         Ive seen a few posts regarding the DT name on tickets. I just
         purchased my tickets for the Birch Hill, NJ Dec 14 show. What the
         hell is up with the "Theatre". Same goes for the local music print.
         Someone needs to do a little homework. Next they will print the
         songlist to include "Life in a Northern Town", the eighties hit (sic)
         from Dream Academy.

         Any other takers for the Birch Hill??

            Those "lyrics" to Eve were actually overdubs played while the band
    was playing a live show once. I think it was only once. I dunno. No
    actual "lyrics" per se, just overdubs.

            Peace be with you and God bless.

    I always thought "Boy Do They Suck" would be a cool name for a band. That
    way, you would always be able to dis the band you were opening for.

    Fan #1: Who's playing tonight?

    Fan #2: Dream Theater and Boy Do They Suck. :)

    (please no flames....this as meant as an EXAMPLE ONLY and does not reflect
    my true opinion of DT. They certainly DON'T suck - not even a little).

    -----

    I would also like to say that I visited The Strand's website to check on
    info about DT's show there in December, and they spelled it Theatre. (I can
    understand the mistake because the Strand Theatre spells it that way).
    Nevertheless, in an e-mail message asking for further info, I kindly pointed
    out the misspelling. Haven't gotten a response yet, though.

            The Petrucci .ra files in question on the mesa boogie home page
    are music that he wrote for the sega video game called Necronomica. He
    did write and record these himself. Also at the clinic where I first
    heard these two pieces I also remember him saying that the drums were a
    drum machine and he played the keyboards and bass himself. D-man and
    company were at that clinic in NY with me. So, if I am wrong someone
    speak up. But I sam pretty sure that is waht Petrucci said. And you are
    right, they are pretty darn cool.:)

    Since we are talking about guitarists lately, I need to add my 2 cents. I
    am not a guitarist, but for my money, Jimi Hendrix was way ahead of his
    time and my favorite guitarist. Man, to think that he got so much sound
    out of his guitar BACK THEN is crazy. How does he rate among everybody
    else's best? Also, I'm curious what you all think about:
    1. Kirk Hammett
    2. Eddie Van Halen
    3. Vito Bratta (White Lion)

    Just a quick comment.
    I happen to be a Public Enemy fan and I understand that no one can like
    everyone else's music. But just because most DT fans (I believe) are not
    rap fans is no excuse to put down PE in a condescending tone. They are
    one of the "founding fathers" of a music that means a lot to a lot of
    people, and deserve a little more respect than what the 'Jam has given
    them lately. And let's not forget that Portnoy is huge into rap...

    let it predict the dates for all of those digest numbers and it was
    *three* days off at the most (most predictions were *zero* days off).

    According to my program we'll get Ytsejam #2112 on December 11th, 1996.
    Of course, *everyone* will try to post to that digest, so I think we'll
    get #2112 a few days earlier than that.

    Some more predictions :

        YtseDate | Ytsejam
       ------------+---------
        02-16-1995 | 1 Can anyone tell me how much it's off ?
        12-31-1996 | 2175 New Year's Eve '96
        01-01-1997 | 2178 New Year's Day '97
        02-14-1997 | 2318 Valentines, my birthday :-D
        07-25-1999 | 5150 Van Halen's 5150 :->
        01-01-2000 | 5658
        09-27-2003 | 9999

    I *know* the date for digest 1 is *way off*, because the Ytsejam went
    .from 1-2 digest(s) a day to 4-5 over the past few months...
     ~~~~
    [almost!]
    About that "from" at the beginning of a line in your message thing...
    I've known about that bug for months, because it seriously phuqed up my
    "Most Frequent Poster" program until I found out what the problem was...
    I just didn't post about it, because there are always dicks who use it
    to phuq up the list, or wanna find out if really *does* mess up the
    program that puts together the digests... Trust me, it *does* :->
    Oh yeah, don't forget to enter the DT-poll on my homepage ! A few days
    ago my ISP totally phuqed up, so I didn't receive most of the votes.
    If you already voted, but your name isn't on the following list,
    *please* vote again :
    Jeremy Hyde, saveur, Jeff Forte, William Campbell, Gustavsson,
    antti nyrhinen, Syrinx, Rudy van IJzendoorn, Mika Lietzen,
    Knut Aavatsmark, Brett Lane, Ken McWatters,
    Mike (pellerim@river.it.gvsu.edu)
    I'm sorry about listing your names, but I don't want you guys going
    through the trouble of re-entering for nothing...
    The poll closes on December 1st, 1996. If I get enough votes in the
    next few days, I *might* put together a list of the results *before*
    the closing date.
    Joe "It's All About Groove" Satriani was appropriately the last performer.
    Having no keyboardist or rhythm guitarist, he was the easiest to hear all
    evening...with the obvious exception of Adrian Legg. His set was all about
    milking every note for all it was worth. He hit more screaming harmonics
    than I previously thought possible. He hit the highest ones as naturals at
    the TREMOLO, not down near the headstock, something I gotta try now. :)
    Joe was without a doubt the most relaxed, in-the-pocket performer of the
    evening (again, with the obvious exception of Adrian Legg, perhaps I
    should say "electric performer"). I mean, Vai was obviously having fun and
    was feeling very carefree and jubilant about the whole situation, but like
    a shark, he NEVER stopped moving. Joe, with his cooler-than-thou black
    sunglasses and feet-together stance, reminded me of a store-window
    mannequin at times...except that there was a terrifying array of noises
    emanating from his guitar.
    And Stuart Hamm, man what a solo. Nothing riles a crowd quite like the
    "Star-Spangled Banner." Many people were saluting through the entire
    thing, myself included. Then there was the "Peanuts" theme song which got
    everyone screaming. Then he broke into this quick country riff that got
    the entire crowd clapping along, and we KEPT clapping until the end. Yes,
    I can understand how someone might say "he stole the show!"
    "Satch Boogie" tore the roof off the sucker. I mean the top of the
    Paramount Theater just spontaneously combusted in a great ball of fire and
    we were all sucked out to the faraway land of the Silver Surfer. Satriani
    seemed almost like a combination of Vai and Johnson, having the ease of
    motion and technical command of his instrument of Vai and the soft-spoken
    manner and humility of Johnson.
    When the three (plus Stu) jammed at the end, the antics began with Mike
    Keneally doing his part to ruffle feathers by spraying everyone with
    silly-string.
    "It's time to JAM." --Satriani, getting the crowd on its feet
    (As Satriani said this, Vai began playing the opening riff of "Satch
    Boogie," which drew much laughter from the crowd.)
    Anyway. Joe was the only one who seemed capable of staying in the
    pentatonics and really nailing DA BLUES. Eric was continually doing one of
    two things: (1) moving chords around like a jazz player, or (2) playing
    sixteenth notes all over the place. It was melodic and of course part of
    his beautiful style, but really didn't fit in with, say, "Red House."
    (It's always neat watching players of a particular style force their
    melodic sense into a style of music that naturally rejects it. That
    major-scale stuff against the I-IV-V backdrop almost hurt.) Wearing huge
    black headphones and staring at his hands throughout the entire encore of
    three songs, it seemed like Johnson wasn't on the same plane of existence
    as everyone else. Vai and Satch and Stu fit together like candles on a
    cake, but to my ears Johnson was the odd one out, and to my mind Johnson
    would have been better off with his own tour.
    Vai would always begin with something bluesy, then after about, oh, TWO
    SECONDS he'd fly into something crazy. Nothing like the focus he displayed
    on "Brother." He didn't seem to care much for simplicity. :) :) :) He
    pushed every limit on what could be called "blues" by always returning to
    the lick he began with and staying away from wild harmonics. Otherwise he
    stayed true to himself, regardless of what the others were doing: a
    virtuoso.
    Satriani, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind whipping out harmonics
    that made my ears bleed. (You could say the man knew how to hurt brains.)
    He would go last, always third when it came time for the soloing, and
    clean up with a masterfully tasteful blues-lick extravaganza. He wasn't
    afraid to do a lick twice. Or repeat it about a dozen times in the fashion
    of many blues guitarists.
    R. (Chris Hailey, the fellow I went to G3 with) and I concluded that a G4
    (G6, G73, whatever) would be a cool idea. Maybe when us Ytsejammers go our
    separate ways (into the inevitable stardom we're all destined for) we can
    re-unite in twenty years and do a Y3...no, a Y800 or something...
