I don't know anything about another band but I would call if
anyone runs into tickets coming early or with anything wrong with them.
When I ordered my tickets, they refused to send them any more than
fourteen days in advance, I begged and pleaded and they said no, the only
thing I could do to get them earlier would be FedX them but they wouldn't
release them any earlier. I may have gotten wrong information but if
people run into tickets saying Dream Theatre or anything else wrong, I
would give our good friends at TM a call.

I don't understand how utilizing all of your guitars hardware can
make your playing impure unless you.... nevermind. But seriously, I really
heavily disagree with you and Bafu about Vai ad Satriani playing off a bunch
of licks they've memorized, whereas Johnson doesn't. I hear a lot of the
same licks from Johnson, just in different keys. Satch plays songs without
the whammy anywhere in them. Vai probably does too (I know he didn't use it
THAT heavily on Zappa's Man from Utopia) but the goal of guitar playing is
to make music, no? Does using a whammy bar to do things that you CAN'T do
without one make the music less valuable or less tasteful? That's like
saying bassists who play fretted bass are less of musicians than fretless
bassists because with fretless bass you have to watch your technique more so
you don't go out of intonation. Fretted bassist (and guitarists for that
matter) use frets as a crutch? No, it's part of the design of the
instrument you play, and if you can use it well, what reason is there not to
    use it?

ok, one of my all time gripes about fates warning's "The ivory gate of
dreams" on cd was that it was split up into tracks. I was just over at a
friends house, and he has a copy on cd with different artwork (or less, the
back is all black with the tracklist) BUT its all on one track! anyone know
anything about which version was released when and stuff? dale, i'm hitting
you with a carbon copy of this cuz i know you just got it from a cd club..
    which way is yours?

Fripp said this many years ago when recorders were primitive by today's
    standards.

I don't know about that. The WHo show that sounded so great last night
still sounds great this morning :)

    I'll agree with that.

BTW- the Fripp comments you refer to can also be found on the back of a
Crimson bootleg LP. I think it's the "Dancing with Dr. D" LP.

It's also interesting to note that Crimson just played the HORDE festival
    which allows taping.

    | Malmsteen is a guy who "blows his wad in 5 minutes"
    | meaning, in 5 minutes, you've heard all that he is.
    | he has incredible speed and execution, but that's about it.

What about his songwriting/composing skills? Sure, his singing sucks, he runs
his mouth a little too much and his "radio-friendly" songs have made him just
another shredder trying to cross-over - but songs like "Black Star", "Evil
Eye" and "Trilogy Suite" are monstrous!

Does anyone agree with the following - No other guitarist (except Eddie Van
Halen) spawned more clones than Yngwie in the 80s. Hell, I was one of them!
I went so far as to destroy one of my necks by attempting to scallop them like
    Yngwie.

Has anyone seen Yngwie play recently? I saw him about 6 months ago and he

pounds around his gut. Although, his wife was the exact opposite - a total
    knockout! Just wondering...

This is amazing. I am completely caught up :) I even cleaned out the ytsejam moderator mailbox :):)

So, on to some real stuff. First, since the above is the truth, if you think I owe you mail, please email me. I don't have anymore, so it must have gotten lost or something. And since this is the situation, you will probably get a very quick response from me :)

    Ytsejam Stuff -------------

    Current Subscribers: 931

Just thought everyone should know :) I unsubbed anyone who was bouncing, so that should be a real number too :)

I have been trying to keep the archive up lately too. Mike's updates will be going in when he sends them to me and the FAQ updates will be going in when D-Man sends em to me. I mailed Mike Backoff for a copy of the discography, so I can put an update one of those in the archive as well.

I am going to clean the archive up a bit in the near future too. If you have anything that you think should be in the archive, please email it to me and if I feel it should be there, I will add it in.

I am also going to be updating the message that people get when they subscribe. If you have anything you feel should be added or changed in this, please tell me SOON. I am hoping to do this in the next day or two.

    Dream Theater IRC Server ------------------------

First off, if you don't know about this, I run an IRC server for all the ytsejammers to come and chat on. The info on the server is:

    irc.dreamt.org port 2112

Some of you who use the server alot have seen a message about the server moving soon. Well, it has. Nothing has to change, I just moved it to a new machine and pointed irc.dreamt.org to it. The old server is still up and the two are connected until the machine that holds the old server goes offline.

There will be a day where the new server will be down while it is being physically moved to its new location. I will post about this when the time comes.

    Dreamt.org accounts -------------------

As many of you know, I own the domain dreamt.org. There is a possibility that the aliases that are set up for these accounts may go down for a day or two when things start to move around. I will inform everyone if this is going to happen, but this is just a prewarning.

    Rush ----

Saw them last weekend :) Had a group of 14 (I know because I counted to it many times) It was an amazing show. It was also real cool to see alot of the ytsejammers who live in the area and even some who don't (Wisha, D-Man). Had a real good time, I hope everyone else did too.

    December DT Shows -----------------

I am planning on being at the shows in CT, RI, and NJ :) Just so everyone knows :) Should be another blast just like last year :)

    The Explanation ---------------

So, by now, I guess alot of people are wondering what the hell is going on with me that I have time to answer all my email and am moving all kinds of stuff around. Well, the company I used to work for Blue Sky is closing. They are closing because things became a bit too much for me to handle all by myself and I decided to leave the company. They should be closed in about 2 weeks and that is why things are moving. Some friends of mine are putting a new T1 up which will have a machine that I use attached to it, so the new server will be going there. Because of the move, there is a possibility that my dialup, which hosts the dreamt.org mail will go down for a day or two while things get set up.

I am now working for Pencom System Adminstration. Its the company that Johnny "Motown" Mastin character works for. I am really enjoying it so far and there's alot of potential for that enjoyment to increase, so things are real good these days. :)

OK, I think that should be everything.

    Later! Skadz

Don't you mean who HASN'T? :) The only band I've ever been in (years ago) had an identity-crises in that the think-tank comprised of the vocalist/rhythm guitarist and bassist would change the band-name at will without discussing things first with the drummer or lead guitarist. We ended up bouncing from this to that:

    1. Journeymen (used previous to the addition of the bassist and drummer, carried over without their consent) 2. Anvil 3. Sphere of Influence

This was over the course of one year, summer of '92 to summer of '93. After I moved in '93 the name was changed again to

    4. Trial By Fire. (the band dis-banded in '95)

The only names I ever suggested and pushed for were "Longshot" and "Hourglass," but they ended up in the Great Band Name Dumpster.
