Many thanx to those on the growing list of those interested in Sanguine
    Surroundings and Stalemate.

As of now, 20 people are signed on to the Di-Sigma mailing list, two
    internationals. Whoa!

I know there are more people on this list that have pocket change laying
around underneath the sofa cusions that could very well amount to a
limited printing of Sanguine Surrounding's Stalemate demo....

C'mon, we have 200 ready for just you people. If you think it sucks,
its only $5.00 (+$2.00 S/H). You've made poorer purchases in you life,
I'm sure. Besdes, you just might like it!!! ;)=- (funky goat'!)

Well, Nicole, you're not entirely alone. I know there are more
women on the Jam, though they might not be posting much these days. Let's
see... Rachel, Charone, Patricia, the three Jenns, Stacy, Jaime, Anna,
hmmmm... seems I'm forgetting a few.

And it seems that DT fans at least have SOME crossover of
interest, usually in hobbies or interests that require a little bit of
thought or an open mind for a different perspective. Here's the matches
    your post had with me...

    * Anime. Man, I could watch that stuff all week, but it's gotta be the
"fun" or "thoughtful" type, such as Kimagure Orange Road or Ranma, as I
get really tired of monster/robot/blatant-porn type anime. I mean the
first time you see Dragon Knight, it's a hoot. The ninth time a friend
throws in Urotsukidoji is when I head for the door. :)

    * Skateboarding. Yup, back in jr. high I was a skater... weird haircut,
stupid boots, drained the pool, etc. Broke a Valterra, broke a Kamikaze,
finally saved up for a Powell Lance Mountain, and broke that. :)

    * Fantasy reading. Dragonlance and the Belgariad were cool, but The Wheel
of Time is easily the peak of fantasy writing. I'd write the rest myself
    if Robert Jordan died.

Then there's some more things that some others may relate to...

    * Magic: the Gathering
    * Video games (this one's already been covered recently)
    * of course, other prog bands. :)

Actually, I've never read Dragonlance or rode a skateboard in my life,
and the weird thing is that I have a friend who is in to all that D&D type
stuff but he listens to ska music and They Might Be Giants. Prog-Rock is
probably the furthest thing from his mind. Maybe its something in the water
from where I come from.Oh well. Also I don't think its so rare for anybody
to love DT regardless of whether male or female, but you are right Nicole, I
don't see too many female jammers either. I can't offer any explanations or
ideas but I've noticed the same thing.

Barren Cross?! Man, I haven't heard that name for a few years. I'll
have to go back and relisten to Fates some to see if I can catch the
similarities. In fact, I just saw my old Atomic Arena, State of
Control, and Rock for the King tapes just earlier today. Oh, and one
of the things that did first attract me to BC was what I saw as similarities to
Dickinson in the vocals (after listening to them again, I don't see
quite as many similarities, but Mike Lee does have a good voice,
IMO). Has anybody heard Rattle Your Cage? I've heard a few tracks
from it, but don't know if I'd want to actually go out and buy it.
    Cheers.

Now hear this: this is a hoax, and has traveled around the net known as both
this name and "good times." Simply opening an email message cannot do anything
like this. There has to be an attached file, and just reading the message won't
activate a program in an attached file. Just thought you should know.

THIS IS MOSTLY ABOUT THE NOR-CAL RUSH SHOWS. SCROLL DOWN,
DELETE IT, READ IT OR NOT (I couldn't care less)

Hi everyone. Well, I'm unsubscribing for a week due to
a forced shutdown (like anyone cares), but in perusing
the TOC from the unread 'jams in my mailbox, I can see
it's the same, loveable ole' ytsejam.

About the Nor-Cal Rush shows: UNF*CKINGBELIEVABLE!

Soooo much better than the last tour... if you even like
Rush in the slightest amount, *go see this show*. I was this
way after HYF came out, and when the Presto tour came around,
I saw the show and was hooked for life.

I'm not too hot on the new album (but don't _dislike_ it), so
the first half of the show was "okay" (except for 2112,
that was bitchen), but the second half blew any Rush tour
I've seen away. The energy is back. Hearing NATURAL SCIENCE
was like hearing DT do Pull Me Under. Awesome. Too bad no
one knew it. I try to imagine how DT would do an arena show...

San Jose crowd were mostly losers--- the whole damn floor was
sitting down. We had elevated seats against a box so we rocked
the whole time (close to the bathrooms and beer, too, heh heh).
This dickhead in front of me was taping the show--- we could
see the red LED in his shirt pocket. I caught up with him after
the show and asked him. He first pretended like he didn't hear
me, and when I pressed him, he just shook his head and said he
didn't know what I was talking about. Bastard. I should've told
him I'd turn his ass in if he didn't *give* me the tape (at least
he could've humored me by taking my address). Should've kicked his
ass. At 6'4", he was a little larger than me, but I could've taken
him out with ease, being faster than most ordinary mortals and all...

Sacramento show, the crowd wasn't asleep like the night before.
Much better. Rush was just as good, though they did get out of
sync on The Big Money (they recovered smoothly, though it took them
a few measures, I'm sure not many people noticed).

And the laser show was the best I've seen. Glad the Tom Sawyer
    video is back.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'll be in Reno the night
before, partying (but not gambling--- I HATE that, I'd rather play
video games at C.C.), wearing a DT clothing article for advertisment
purposes, of course). I did give my card to a woman in Sac. who said
her brother loved DT. Hopefully, we'll get another ytsejammer, now
don't go scaring him away !^)>

    nos vemos en El Infierno,

I have been on this list for over a year now but haven't post anything
for the past 3 months. Yes, there isn't a whole lot of female jammers
but there are some who are probably just lurking around like me.

Been reading about Fates Warning lately. I got into FW because of this
list. Inside Out was the 1st CD I got but didn't like it. Then I
decided to give them another try and got Perfect Symmetry, better than IO
but still didn't really made it. But Parallels got so much talk, so I
got it. And now the rest is history. I love them now!!! (can't wait
    for the new album)

About John Myung's nationality--Myung can be a Korean or Chinese last
    name, sooooooo.....

One week from today I am going to see RUSH!!!!!!! Only 4th row from the
    stage!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait.

There are always exceptions; there is no one like me on this list
(which is why I don't get along well with anyone). I did read those
DragonLance books at one time, though.

    >another query - is it really so rare for a female to love DT?
It's rare enough for a male to love them.

Chickie? I've never heard that one.
    >hmmm.......any explanations or ideas?
There tend to be less "chickies" who like metal bands, especially
the less popular ones. The amount of them that like progressive bands
tends to be even less. Don't ask me why.

Just by reading a mail dosn't make you RUN the attachement... and there are
currently no way to send.. um ... JAVA-like scripts through mail... and if
youre thinking.. hey... java is a danger lurkin in the web, wrong again. To

agreed. these guys were the best act i've ever seen live hands down. i
havent seen DT yet, but i'd bet dt could only TIE them, not replace them. i
even got a chance to meet them and get Psychotic Supper and a promo for Bust

    >> separating the two at all -- but they ARE similar in several ways.
    >
    >You mean Clapton can wail on two turntables and a microphone?

His cover of "MTV Makes Me Want To Smoke Crack" is inspiring. The flip side
of the "Tears In Heaven" single....

This is good. A dissenter mentioning that there IS value in the list. I
    like this guy already....

    >However the main reason I am writing is because I'm fed up with
    >the recent tlk about " Hammet vs. Friedman",etc, and I'm going to have to
    >agree with Vince that its really becoming quite asanine. Kirk Hammet was one
    >of those guitarists that was a primary influence on my soloing. Maybe on
    >Load some of the solos aren't really great but this is the man who WROTE
    >and recorded the amazing solos on " Ride the Lightning" which continue to
    >leave me breathless to this day. To say he is an un-original schmuck is
    >completely stupid and insane. I also love Friedman, Satriani, definitely
    >Petrucci, and a bunch of other guys, who have a great ability to come up
    >with these solos that always inspire me to new levels of creativity. Hammet
    >is certainly one of them. Just because latley he hasn't been putting out
    >these stupendous solos doesn't change what he did in the past, or what he
    >might be capable of doing in the future.

    On the other hand.....

I LIKE Hammett's playing on "Load." Not as much as his earlier work, which
I thought was a little more unique, stylistically, but it's good stuff. And
the songs on the album are strong. I'd say I like it more than "Kill 'Em
All," less than "Master of Puppets." Anyhow, I don't really see any problem
with discussing the relative merits of relatively heavy, relatively
progressive contemporary players in high-profile bands. If the discussion
was mindless, that's one thing, but the dissenting opinions in this argument
have actually been quite strong, I'd say.

    >And in my opinion, yes I will agree
    >that he did incorporate the soloing ideas of Mustaine into the " Kill'em All
    >" solos but have you ever listened to Mustaine's versions of those solos on
    >the " No life Till Leather" demos. If you have then you might find that they
    >blow chunks. He bends out of tune, hits completely wrong notes, ends on
    >wrong notes, just shreds for no good reason, and basically makes them suck
    >big time. Granted he has gotten better now because I listen to his solos now
    >and love them to death, but when Kirk came in he added some new ideas to the
    >already present ones and fixed all the mistakes and made them incredibly
    >better overall. That right there just shows to me the kind of creativity he
    >has. This is all my opinion and I'm not saying everyone has to agree with
    >me, all I'm saying is give some respect.

I like what Dave's been saying about his and Friedman's soloing since Marty
joined Megadeth -- "Marty solos with a lot of love. I solo with a lot of
hate." I dunno about "hate," per se, but he does have a lot of energy in his
playing. Mustaine's more of a typical soloist -- blues licks on speed, really.

First, someone was discussing the Fates Warning vocals, and whom they most
    resembled.
John Arch never sounded much like Bruce Dickinson in my opinion, and at
various times in my life these have been my favorite two groups (Fates and
Maiden). Now, the early Fates material, especially the first two, were
*musically* reminiscent of Maiden, but not vocally. Now to say that Ray
Alder sounds like Mike Lee (Barren Cross) is misspeaking. Mike Lee sounds
*very* much like Bruce Dickinson. I mean *just* like Bruce. Maybe you got
the two mixed up in the comparison? Alder has never sounded much like anyone
    else in my opinion.

Secondly, someone else (not Queensryche, though, oddly enough that song is
on right now. Hmm.) asked about Joey Vera's solo record. I thought I had
given a small capsule of this disc in the past, but maybe not... Anyway, the
music is lighter and more "grungy" (modern Seattle-style) than either
Armored Saint (by far) or (miles away) Fates Warning. One song sounds just
like an Alice in Chains song. There is another track that features John Bush
(ex-AS, current Anthrax vocalist). While I drew a comparison to grunge, it's
not that bad. It is more bass-heavy, naturally, but it does share more of a
groove-thing (not of the Mystical Potato Head variety - sorry) with the
current popular style. Joey adds his own vocals, which are suprisingly
strong. Overall, let's put it like this: I have this release on cassette. I
have had it for quite awhile. I still haven't gotten around to purchasing it
on CD. What does that tell you? On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 5.5

Thirdly, that same someone asked about Helloween backing vocals. I have no
clue. I was wondering the same thing about Gamma Ray as I was listening to
Alive 95 this morning on the way to work.

Fourth? The is no fourth coming forth.

    12 more trips through hell.

    Kevin
