I LOVE anime! [Paul? ;)] So, yeah, I've noticed. hehe

I think there are quite a few girls on the list who like Dream
Theater. When I say Mike on "tour" here in Omaha, most of the girls
there were girlfriends of the guy fans. But I know there are female fans
out there.

Hey there all,
I'm looking to go to the Providence show but I need someone who
has a car and can give me a ride OR someone who will split the rental
car fee. If any of you guys can help me out, I'd appreciate it big time.

incorrect. there are certain holes in the java and javascript language that
let rather clever ppl to do just about anything they want to your hard
drive/memory. i visited a page that pointed out many of the flaws in java.
it emailed me my autoexec.bat w/ a technical explanation on how they did
it. email me if you want the URL. i suppose you could do a net.search on java.
the good thing is that these rogue scripts are not common...yet. if you're
cautious or paranoid, just disable the java and javascript in your browser
(it's under Options | Network Preferences | Languages in Netscape).

Ever notice that DT is the only band that never (rarely if ever) gets bad
press from its fans? Everyone I've ever turned on to DT either loves or
hates them. There are few inbetweeners. Probably because their so damn
AWESOME!!! at what they do. Just a thought.
There are, all too unfortunately, few girls who listen to DT. Some of
the Gals around here like them, but wouldn't be a
diehard/GoAnywhereToSeeThem fan like myself; sad but true. So if you do
exist around here, show yourselves!!!
I've noticed that there are a few Maiden fans around here. Did any of
you pick up "Balls to Picaso", Dickinson's "solo" project? What did ya
think? I thought it was pretty cool, he's kinda mellowed out since the
Seventh Son... days.

Hmmm....a few comments, as I peruse my last four digests:
Hammett vs. Friedman: They both play extremely well. Hammett, I'd say, is
more influential. I understand that some people don't really care that
much, but most of the argumentation around the issue was not so bad...I
always enjoy a cogent argument.
And Petrucci: Of the new crop of guitarists, y'think he may be the most
influential? Dream Theater really seems to be the band that's emerged in
the last few years that's had the biggest influence on musicians.
Petrucci's winning guitar polls, playing amazing solos. It's fun to watch a
player like that emerge. For a while, it looked like Bettencourt was gonna
be the same type of guy, but it doesn't look like he's gonna be high-profile
enough to have that kind of impact. I remember getting the first record and
thinking, "Man, this is really where the new wave of players SHOULD go.
It's cool to hear someone who's been influenced by the same sorts of music
that I have," (though, of course, I'm a bassist). And now he's really a
part of that first-line of guitarists...a guy who comes up in the first five
or ten names when you talk about the landscape of rock players today. Very
cool.
And Ulrich: Man, does he ever get slammed here. I've seen Metallica a few
times and have a half-decent ear. I just don't know where "sloppy" comes
from. I think Ulrich is a tremendous drummer, just shy of Peart and Tony
Williams, a little north of Manu Katche and Nick McBrain (yes, I DO like
both of those guys...quite a bit, really). I'll probably shouldn't say it
on THIS list, but I think he and Portnoy are in about the same class
(probably by third and fourth favorite at the moment).
Okay, I'm gonna go have a weekend now, so I'll address all of my
inadequacies on Monday. Take it easy, folk....

I'll tell you what I think is good. *Give* away copies of your demo.
There's a young band called Power of Omens, and I heard that they give out
cassette copies of their demo. So I emailed them (I forget who gave me the
address), and after a bit I got a cassette in the mail. It's really good, as
was pointed out a few weeks ago by a fellow jammer. Anyway, if the tape
weren't free, I wouldn't have it right now. But now that I have it, and it
was free, I'll be happy to pick up their debut release on CD as soon as it's
available. Catch my drift? They're paying to establish a new fanbase, and
this way fewer people will be less apprehensive to dish out the $15 for a CD
because they got a *free* taste-test. So as soon as you start giving away
your demo, I'll be ready to listen to it. Otherwise, I'll use the $5 towards
something I'm sure will be enjoyed.
Just my humble opinion.

I saw Steve Vai last night at a rather small club. I think capacity was
about 850 or so...But let me say...THIS SHOW WAS THE MOST FUCKING
INCREDIBLE THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! Steve was just phenomenal...he
blew me away. Plus, the opening act, Mike Keneally, rocked just as hard!
I bought his CD, and it is totally excellent. Very Zappa, but a little
more on the heavy side. From what I understand, Keneally used to play
with Zappa. His style and Vai's are quite similar, seeing as how they
both played with Frank, it's understandable.
But, if Steve's coming anywhere near where you live on this tour, and you
can't decide whether to go or not, FUCKING DO IT!!! Especially if you
missed G3...

I agree. It is obvious to anyone that knows me who I like the most of the
three, but I also have lots of respect for Hammet and Friedman.

Here's where I disagree. I'm really trying not to sound hypocritical, but
I don't think that KH and MF ever made it to that category. Yes, they are
very good at what they do, but lets face it: JP plays with more emotion,
is faster, and writes better songs than the other 2. I realize that this
is only an opinion, but I don't see how anyone could think otherwise after
listening to all of them.

Let's see...
I love DragonLance, I care not for anime, and I think skateboards
make great Yule-tide fire-feeders... But that's just my opinion...

I don't think looks have anything to do with it. remeber when Mike
made fun of Derek's long hair? Called him Mr. Arena Rock? Derek went
out and got that short hair cut and I guess DT took it as to how
committed this guy can be. At least this is how i remember it. Jens
is really a great keyboard player, though, and I hope things work out

Hrm... Beauty is in the ear/eye/nose/throat/pants/whatever of the
beholder. I see all/most/some you guys junping on the thread of this Hammet
vs. Friedman thing, and it's as rediculous as comparing Coke vs. Pepsi,
Wranglers vs. Levis, and Nintendo vs. Sega. People have their tastes
and I like to see you guys duke it over over these paltry things once
in awhile, but there is no comparison between these two. These guys
are elitists in thier own rights. Their playing styles have
similarities as do all guitarists, but their methods are completely
different. I enjoy them both, and I can't see why everyone keeps
looking for the perfect guitarists when they are all around us. Even
Cobain had his virtues. Most of us may not appreciate them, but
obviously about 10+ million others did. That's what makes our world
great. We have the freedom to choose and do/play/feel whatever we
want. Let's not ridicule one another for our differences, but take a
step back and fall into their shoes for a change. Let's discard our
single-mindedness and open our hearts to a new era. One day we all
shall acheive unity and a great friendship will encroach the
land, and.....
NAAAAAHHHH! :P
Sounds too boring. You suck if you've read this far. :)
Nuff said.

There are also Irene, Pam, and a couple others whose names escape me. I can

Nooooooo! I wish Robert Jordan WOULD die! You could cut out probably four
books worth of detail in that series so far and not lose any of the story --
in fact, enhance it a great deal. I'm getting *really* tired of being told
that Ogiers have fingers like sausages, the girls all seem to have this
aversion to cleavage, and almost no one *dies* even though they're in the
middle of a war! (or if they do die, they don't stay dead!) It's a good
story on the surface, but boy does he need a good editor...

Well, here's one more female jammer :) I've been on the list for almost a
year now (will be a year in December). True, I don't post all that much.
But yes, I haven't noticed too many female DT fans around either. I've only
found a handful of DT fans around here to begin with and they were guys.
And they're not really big fans, just like the band a bit.
I don't really know why it is that there aren't that many women into DT.
Around here, there aren't too many DT fans at all! All my friends here are
into stuff like dance, techno, etc. It's the area I live in I guess. It's
really too bad though.
I don't find myself really having the same hobbies... I do read, but
generally Stephen King stuff, and then the rest of my time is spent mostly
on the computer (free time that is, when I'm not at work or school). I used
to *THINK* that I liked skateboarding, back in 88 or so, but that's only
cause it was the in thing then. Does that count? :)
But anyhow, there are at least a few female jammers here, and it will be
great to see more join :) I'll do my part to try to convert some :)
Take care all,
Irene
