...........is a figment of your imagination, whoever brought that up! get
    that shit out your head.

i happened to be at the jp clinic in nyc as well, and hearing him say
"hopefully ibanez will be releasing a 7 string model of my guitar" made me
shoot my load and speak in tongues. of course it did.

after the clinic, i got to speak to petrucci's ibanez rep (whatever that
dipshit's name was), and i asked him about it, and he was like "what are YOU
talking about?" apparently he had "gone to the bathroom" when whoever it was
asked petrucci about this jp model 7 string, but he clarified it for me and
told me that ibanez had NO PLANS of making said signature guitar. he ranted a
bunch of reasons, one of them alluding to vai getting pissed off about it if
it happened (NOT a CONCRETE STATEMENT, SO DON'T START RUMORS, OR I'LL KICK
YOU IN THE PEE PEE), but he convincd me never again.

otherwise, i would have found an ingenius way to trade in my current universe
for a shiny happy white jp one (btw, anyone here have a white universe for
    trade?).

well, being that i am talking about 7's, i will once again sing its praises,
and tell anyone here who seriously needs to get brain-raped, go find one and
buy it. expensive as hell, but if you work at it, it gets scary. i personally
have gotten a much better sense of chords, and for some stupid reason, my
technique has gone quite up (as in, i can play some real fast notes). i have
used this guitar in a variety of performance situations (rock, musical
theater, jazz ensemble, and my own funk/jazz perversion), and have done good
with it (i.e., playing the musical "godspell" with it was a blast, esp. since
it was me, drums and keys. i had the bass going on some parts, which is
    swift).

basically, go get it. besides sounding like a crackhead, you'll play like a
total goon, and when you go pick up your 6 string, it'll feel like a toy.

WOOOOOOOO-HAAAAAAAAH!!!!! i gotcha all in check.

    ummm....what are they?

    > Most of us may not appreciate them, but
    > obviously about 10+ million others did.

10+ million people supported Hitler, too (obviously meant as an exaggeration -
don't jump on me, please!), but popular support doesn't make something good.
Personally, I don't see how any intelligent, music-loving person with a mind of
their own could like Cobain. From what I've seen, the people who really claim to
like him are a combination of two things:
    1. People who don't give a rat's ass about music, and just want loud noise
    2. People who think it's cool to be "alternative" and express their
individuality by doing and thinking what somebody tells them "alternative"
people should think and do. I always felt like laughing in high school when I
would see a group of 8 or 10 of these people standing around, all with dyed
hair, combat boots, seventies clothes, nose rings, army surplus coats, etc. -
    how very original and individual.

Notice I said people who REALLY like him. There are a couple Nirvana songs that
I don't mind just because they're catchy little tunes, but that's a far cry
frombeing a musical genius, which anybody with a little knowledge of music knows
    Cobain wasn't.

And as for his lyrical talent (or lack there of): Two sentences.
1."Rape me, rape me my friend, rape me again", etc., etc.
2."I hate myself and want to die."

Which brings me to the last reason I'm fed up with the Cobain thing. Why the
hell do some people thing he's some martyr and should be revered? As far as I
can tell, all he did in life was to use lots of drugs, encourage his wife's
heroin use during her pregnancy, and then kill himself and leave his baby girl
behind - which I see as the ultimate selfishness. In my opinion, Cobain was an
absolutely putrid, despicable person, as seperated from his music.

Just my thoughts. Sorry that got a little long - it's just one of the things
    that really bugs me.

    >Okay, buy me the CD and I'll give it a chance.

Don't waste your time. Somebody online summed it up in just a few words.
Load is a very shitty metal album but a great mainstream rock album. So
if you like rock not metal get the CD. If you like metal hard and hate
the mainstream rock, you wouldn't want to be caught dead with it cause
you'll be disappointed. Basically I can't believe after all this time
this list is still going on about this shit. Thats why I unsubscribed
from the Metallica list. Life's too short to go on with this done to
death subject! Get with the program and burn or sell the f***ing thing!
Better still don't buy it at all!! I never regretted it and will not
buy another new Metallica album until I've heard it first!!! At least
Pantera is consistent in their live show and recordings for heavyness
and don't confuse their fans. They still have a different sound and
change from album to album but don't confuse their fans.

    >What I've heard of it so far is not at all what I liked about Metallica,
    >nor what I look for in music in general, so I'm saving up my chances for
    >things that there's a greater possibility I'll like. Metallica doesn't
    >need any more of my money or my time.

Yeah send a message to the band boycott LOAD and send a message to the
band: "Don't fuck with your fan base so you can please alternative
fans!! Don't turn your back on your metal roots!!"

Yeah I sold the CD months back and are no longer agonising over the
merits of LOAD or justifying it as so many 'tallica fans are still
trying to do on too many lists.

    >The first time I heard "until it sleeps" I was not blown away. It wasn't
    >very different, it wasn't very awesome, and I'd heard Metallica and knew
    >that they were already heading in a direction I didn't care for all that
    >much, so I decided I have better things to do.

    Agreed!
When I first got ACOS or I&W that certainly blew me away!!!

    >You can't just give everything a chance...there's not enough
    >time...something has to reach out and demand a chance, and UIS just
    >didn't do it for me.

Like I just said Life's Too Short for that.
My advice before you hand over your $16 (that's the going price for a CD
in the US yes?) check it out first. This applies especially to the next
Metallica album. Since it was recorded during the LOAD sessions, it is
likely that it will be as bad as its predecessor!!!

As someone who has been subscribed to guitar magazines, I
can say quite clearly that whether I like it or (in Hammett's case) not,
these players have been and probably still are at the top of the top of the
cream of the potato soup of guitar playerdom.
    >Yes, they are
    >very good at what they do, but lets face it: JP plays with more emotion,
I disagree. I've only heard one player that can play with
more emotion than Friedman on electric guitar. That is Jason Becker. JP is
quite often emotionless in his playing. Interesting, yes... soulful, not
    always.
    >is faster,
This is not an opinion.... it's just wrong. And misguided.
I can play some things faster than JP probably. And ya know what? I Suck
next to him. Speed is not a big thing. It's how you use it. Further,
Friedman in the ol' Cacophony days played a hell of a lot faster at times
than JP ever has on any album we've been blessed by.

    Be well.

It's been ages since I've last posted, so why not make another one. Anyway,
for about 2 weeks since I found out that DT was having a concert at
Mulchay's in NY, I was going nuts wondering if the show was an 18+, 21+, or
what. I was all worried and most people said it is probably going to be 21+
because that bar is always 21+ for anything and I'm only 19 (just turned 19
on Wednesday if anyone cares). So, I've pretty much been bummed out because
that place is 5 minutes from my house and I chill every night one block
away from that place...So to make a long story short, today when I opened
Newsday, a small article said this.

Mulchay's and Bud Light Proudly Present

    DREAM THEATER

www.muls.com Live in Concert at Mulcahy's in Wantagh 18 +
                     Thursday, December 5th
                       Tickets only $12.50
    blah blah blah...

Anyway, as I saw that, I just started jumping for joy and going nuts. It
just kicks so much ass that DT is going to have a concert that I'll be able
to see in which the preformance is only 5 minutes from my place!!

I'll see you guys at the show here on the Island and at Birch Hill!!

Well.. It's true that he mentions in Guitar Magazine and Guitar World, that
he used only 6-string guitars, but strangely in an English mag called Total
Guitar he states that he "only used the 7-string Universe in only one
song".. My guess would be that the song in question is "The Mysterious
Murder Of Christian Tiera's Lover".. Blowfish, on the other hand, is quite
clearly a six-string harmonized an octave down..

It's a bit strange that he'd say different things in different magazines..
Oh well, I suppose it's not a big thing anyway.

    >gear, Ibanez will release a JP seven string signature guitar series in the
    >near future (I think this means in the next 3 years or so).

That's cool. Now, if I only had the money (maybe then..)...

Just wondering: how many guitarists here play an Ibanez anyway? I do, many
others do too, and there even seems to be a plethora of people with Ibanez
as their alias... Anyone want to do a poll about this?-)

As for the interest crossover thing, the only one that fits me is the Dragonlance description. I really don't like anime...maybe because I don't understand the language nor the purpose for the excess of animated porn (hey, if _I_ can't look like that, NO ONE can! ;) ... Never stepped on a skateboard my entire life...But I DO play several musical instruments, which I think is another common factor between many jammers. Hey All ...

Well, life once again is somewhat settled. My mail is working, dreamt.org mail is working, I kinda have access from home, the irc server is up, etc etc etc.

Basically, what happened is thatthe upstream provider to the company i used to work for decided to pull the plug for non-payment without any notice to me. I did a bit of screaming and got the line back up for 24 hours which gave me enough time to get all my internic changes in, so things went fairly smoothly, just alot quicker than we had planned.

So, I should be settled again. I won't be reading email as much as I used to just because I don't have a dedicated line anymore :( But that will be changing soon and things will really be back to normal.

OK, just wanted to update everyone. On with your normal jam :)

    Later! Skadzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

whoaaaaaaaaa there. i dont mind the exaggeration, but i think its way off subject here. kurt was bringing a new music era, giving people a new taste of something, i mean, i love ALL KINDS of music, but i'd much MUCH rather listen to kurt than yngwie. not that i dont respect either. hitler was someone who mass slaughtered people, broke up families, ruined lives and many's past. nirvana came at a time when everything out there on mtv was glam (not speaking in a pinpoint manner here). as i think it was brett michaels put it, theres the innovators, then theres the followers, then theres the third batch. by the time you get to #3 its time for a re-arrangement on the scene. nirvana and pearl jam really broke that glam mold, it was (and this is what people have argued with me over) innovative. and thats why i gotta repeat myself here that it DOESNT take technical talent to be innovative.

    >From what I've seen, the people who really claim to >like him are a combination of two things: >1. People who don't give a rat's ass about music, and just want loud noise

sometimes thats just the way i feel too. but i don't want it all the time... but can i point out that right now you're insulting the fans of his, not even him. i dont think he just played noise, he played melody, he just didnt do it with much flash like geetar solos or complex fingerings on chords.

    >2. People who think it's cool to be "alternative" and express their >individuality by doing and thinking what somebody tells them "alternative"

you know, this is the original reason *I* HATED nirvana. and now it makes me sick. i hated SO MANY kinds of music because of this thought. after a while, i was finally able to realize its STUPID, because i cant ignore the fact that these bands made music that i fuckin' like! i have friends who i've showed i'm a total DT freak, and i have some that follow it like a trend now. any time a band gets THAT BIG theres gonna be a lot of "fans" who are just in it for the fashion of it. but dont let that bias you against the band themselves.

    >Which brings me to the last reason I'm fed up with the Cobain thing. Why the >hell do some people thing he's some martyr and should be revered?

this i agree with. its almost as bad as jerry garcia. half these kids had no idea who he was til the saw a kurt cobain death shirt. but, it IS starting to die out again which is kinda nice.

    >As far as I >can tell, all he did in life was to use lots of drugs, encourage his wife's >heroin use during her pregnancy, and then kill himself and leave his baby girl >behind - which I see as the ultimate selfishness.

thats another one of my past looks on it.... but that was just the annoyance of the overdose of the public opinion of him that had me in with it... its a really tragic thing... but there were and are tons of artist who abuse themselves with substance. it really is a shame he left behind his wife and kid, but i want to bring this up cuz i found it important in my side of the story, in an interview (with barb walters i think it was) courtney mentioned that recently before he capped himself he was so drugged up that when he was holding the baby he dropped her., since it was wearing one of those big puffy snow suits so it wasnt hurt, but obviously kurt was devistated. so did he leave behind his wife and kid, or did he leave them in self pity that he loved them but didnt feel like he could do anything but hurt them? just one of the sad wonders of addiction.

to those of you who don't know what i mean, i took on this nifty little project to transcribe for piano "wait for sleep", you know, that 2 minute tune before that long one? yeah, iso i transcribed sent it to kevin (who really liked it), and the rest is jello.

if you are interested, i will definitely hook you up, but see me in a month. i will conduct no transactions before or during my finals. after that, we can talk.

    see ya.

I've been away from the list for a while (probobly b/c I get about 5 jams with like 30 messages each everyday..I had 80 messages from different lists today). I have noticed something about concerts being talked about. Nobody mentions what band. Is DT finally on tour (sorry for the ignorance)...new album info? Dates? Please send me mail personally for I don't have time to read all the jams...there's just toooooo many. Thanx!!!! -battery@magg.net or b-tek@juno.com
