wow. apologies to all the other female jammers i missed!! i feel like a
jerk. but at least it got you writing. and no, heather, you are not
chopped liver. no matter what anyone says, i feel that true DT fans are
few and far between, and even fewer are the female fans. good to see
    there are some, though.
and it was interesting to read what you all said about the crossovers.
I must admit, i've read only one robert jordan, and it couldn't even
compete with the original DL's. But Rawn, Lackey, and McCaffrey are all
excellent. ;) all women, too. ;)

    kay, enough. thanks for responding.

oh man..... i cant quite think of words to describe johnson, really. he
was simply amazing. we got there two hours early and got us front row, just
leaned against the barrier and watched him from about five feet away all
night. its a humbling experience. and adrian legg was the perfect opening
act, if you guys havent heard him you are extremely missing out.
whats more, after seeing johnson, satch, and vai now, and thinking about
this guitar debate lately, i just wanna contribute one thing to it...

    :P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really, why bother to sit and argue how satch crutches his bar and johnson
does this and that and blah blah blah. i enjoyed to the max each and every
one of those guys in concert. i can see where its fun to just argue a bit
for the hell of it, but in the long run the only way to pick a favorite is
    personal taste.

if you get the chance, see EJ. and does anyone wanna pick me up a shirt at
a DT show this winter? please? mail me, we can work it out. :)

The truth is that most of those guys feel the same way about us.
Alot of these "alternative" kids think that we're a cult and hate us
cuz they think that we think that they're stupid. Music's music.
don't try and make me feel stupid because I liked Nirvana and don't
try to make me feel like less of a musician. I still would listen to
Nirvana if Kurt hadn't killd himself. I lost respect for him after
his suicide, but the music is still pretty cool, IMO. You can bash
me all you like but I feel the same way Rip does. If you like the
music, listen to it. If you don't. Don't. If you won't listen to
something because it's trendy and a bunch of kids who you think dress
goofy listen to it, then you're a closed-minded simpleton. God
forbid that any of these people ever listen to DT or else you'll be
forces to burn all DT material and unsub off this list.

In other words, I was only trying to make an objective statement and
you thought you could turn it into a flame war because of your
pompous, holier than thou attitude. Save me the breath and shut the
    fuck up.

I have to agree. I listen to Nirvana, AIC, Tool, and many other
bands that are "alternative" besides Dream Theater, Rush, and the like.
Does that make me less of a music fan? No. Does it make the person who
critizes my tastes look like a shallow fuck? Yep.

I listen to music because I LIKE IT, not because it's trendy or
the like. if you don't like it, fuck you. Those are my tastes, and no
holier than thou motherfucker's gonna change my mind.

wow. i sure can curse when i'm angry. go figure.

Unfortunately not all Ibanez reps are only Ibanez reps. Some represent many
companies. This is only ONE reason why the information YOU got could be
flawed. I wasted a summer working at Guitar Center, and as such i have many
friends there. One of these is a big DT fan, and he has spoken directly
with Ibanez (direct enough to get a new set of hardware for his 7 string,
before they released the new black Universe... which if you'd have tried to
do, you'd have realized it was no simple feat) and he asked about 7's coming
out again. They're comment was that since DT was using them, and Korn was
using them, and a lot of little known great players are using them, they
were probably going to re release the lower model (the black one.... only
lower in fretboard inlays) and were considering a JP 7 string model. This
was confirmed at one point that they WERE doing this. It may have been
scrapped.... but that bullshit about Vai getting pissed must have flowed
freely from the rep's bung hole. Vai has said in many interviews that he
was very pleased that Korn and some up and coming bands were reviving the 7
string. Granted my source could be flawed as well... but I think it at
least justified a response. I've met Ibanez reps that didn't know the
difference between the S series and the JS series.

    >otherwise, i would have found an ingenius way to trade in my current universe
    >for a shiny happy white jp one (btw, anyone here have a white universe for
    >trade?).

Don't rule it out yet. Maybe someone will ask JP at the east coast shows.
And my White Universe will NEVER find it's way away from me. : )

Now, come on. I can't believe that no one caught this. "Deeyenda
Maddick"?? Go on, pronounce it. Pronounce it so it rhymes with something
like, "the end of my dick." Ooops! Isn't she married to Craven Morehead?

BTW, about these internet viruses, here's the thing: THE WARNING *IS* THE
VIRUS. There is no actual virus-- but the email warnings, passed to tons
of people and mailing lists and pissing people off every damn day, are
really what is wreaking all the havoc. You know, the medium is the
message. That's the whole point of the Good Times Virus and this new
shit-- people pass on the warning to others without it occurring to them
that they are actually helping to proliferate the "virus" itself.

I have to agree with you here, not about " Load because I personally like
it alot, but that if you are a hard metal fan you are not probably going to
like it. However, my stupid theory that probably isn't right, I'm not right
most of the time anyway it seems,
is that Metallica purposely released " Load " as a way to get all of the
non-heavy metal stuff they had been working on out, sort of maybe testing
their fans, which they have done a lot in the past. From what I've heard of
the other stuff to be released next year sometime, it might just be
different than " Load ". Although I've only heard one song " Devil's Dance",
it didn't have any kind of alternative leanings at all. It kicked, grooved,
and stomped in the Pantera tradition, IMO, with full on palm-muting,
tritones & half-steps galore, and was, IMO, Heavy as S@#$! But that's only
one song, with about 13 more to find out about, so like I said I'm probably
wrong but we'll all find out next year.

Ho ho ho! (visualize a great belly-laugh) Man, I hate to bring this up
again, but Pantera should never be held up as an example of musical
integrity. I bet all the fans who loved glam-era Pantera are mighty confused
about right now. Hmm. Angst is popular. Hmm. Let's change to be heavy. Hmm.
Drugs are cool. Let's change our guitarist's stupid nickname from Diamond to
Dimebag. Hmm. Let's shoot up heroin and then claim to be invincible. To be
fair, I actually enjoy some of the latter-day Pantera recordings, but to use
them as a paradigm for what bands should be like is, at best, laughable.

    Oh well.

    Hey Fellow Jammers,

Being one of the probably few non-musicians amongst you the guitar debate
always interests me from an "outsider" perspective. Personally speaking who is
faster than who doesn't interest me, it is surely what they produce with the
guitar that is more important. One of my favourite guitar solos is "Easter" by
Marillion which is quite pedestrian speed wise but the emotion in it is
amazing and the solo sounds right for the song whereas although I like
Metallica, Kirk Hammett's solos very often dont seem to fit the pace of the
piece of music (notable exception: The Unforgiven). More haste less speed as
    the saying goes......

On to the subject of lack of female 'jammers, I can't speak for the U.S. but
over here in the U.K. fans of Progressive/Rock Music male or female tend to
suffer from an image problem i.e. being Nerds,Sad, Social Outcasts etc. and
quite often the reaction I get when people ask what type of music I like is
."Oh, God! Not that Shit!" yet when they actually here what I listen to i.e.
DT the majority are quite impressed and surprised that it is not just a "wall
of sound" that they had been brainwashed into thinking Rock music was. So I
think a lot of potential male/female Rock fans are frightened off by media
stereotypes and never even bother to explore the music. That is why I think
bands like DT will always have a big solid/loyal fanbase but will probably
never break it real big because they are not "trendy" and thank god they are
    not!

Death to Boyzone and all other pathetic, talentless boy-bands! Your 15 minutes
is nearly over and DT are here for the duration!

Another comment on CD Europe. I went off the other day about how steamed
they've made me. Today I did get part of my order from 2 months ago. So they
apparently won't realy rip people off, but they are a bit cantankerous. Like
I mentioned before, my beef with them is that I'm having trouble getting
them to cancel the remaining portion of my order that they can't seem to
fill. But the positive side is that I got from them:

    Superior, Behind
Sounds like...... I don't know. They simply sound great.

    Mr. So & So, Compendium
Very nice. Should be a hit among Enchant fans. (Thanks Aaron.)

    Dalbello, Whore
Reminds me a bit of PJ Harvey and Alanis, in a weird way. Will take some
getting used to. My roommate seems to like it, though. <shrug>

Anybody know where to find Spock's Beard? Only place I've seen it is CD
Banzai, for like 30 bucks (ouch).

There's a fair number of us here. Those who occasionally post are Jaime,
Babs, Jazzmin, Pam, Madelaine, (I hope I'm spelling your name

    Ah, look; another convert. :)

Well, we won't know what bands people like, 'cause we're not allowed
to reveal what our fave CDs are. Such a pity; this is as much a
prog-lover's list as it is a DT list, and I've discovered so much from
seeing what others have enjoyed recently...

[Paul? ;)] So, yeah, I've noticed. hehe

*sigh* I'm still waiting for tapes from a friend who also wants copies of the series (sans Southern Cross, which he didn't like, go figure :)). When I get them, I'll start running dubs for both of y'all, dual-deck VCR permitting. :)

Stuff owed TO me: - Copy of Rudess/Morgenstern show from Brian Cox (written off) - The same, from Heath Augustover (no biggie; it's a favor to me :))

Stuff owed FROM me: - Copy of Bonedance stuff for Ben Laussade - Copy of Bonedance stuff for Dale Newberry (Status of above: pending receipt of CD from drummer Eric) - Selected DT rarities for Dave Re of Early Warning (lost contact) - Robotech Macross, Southern Cross, Invid War for Dave/Kylania - The above sans Southern Cross for Brian of Bonedance (pending tapes from Brian so I can combine)

....And I think that's it. Ben, Dale, remind me periodically, please. :)

    > nirvana and pearl jam really broke that glam > mold

IMO, Pearl Jam is MUCH more musically talented. Or was until they decided to follow the alternative trend - simple, uninteresting guitar, three-piece drum kit to keep beat and nothing more - which to me is the style that Nirvana started, which is why I don't like Nirvana (or recent Pearl Jam). Back at the time of "Ten" and "Nevermind," Pearl Jam did much more. Oh well. I look at them sort of like Metallica - used to be really interesting music, has degenerated since.
